Rogers 45-Piece A La Carte Flatware with Hostess

Rogers 45-Piece A La Carte Flatware with HostessI brought this from Amazon warehouse as an open box, I paid almost half of the original price. And for that price it is very well worth it. Since it was an open box, the box was not in a good shape but all the items were. They are quite heavy and conferrable enough on the hand, and very strong and look relatively expensive. I'm sure this set will last quite long time.

Core Bamboo 1155 Magnolia Collection Cutting Board, Extra Large

Core Bamboo 1155 Magnolia Collection Cutting Board, Extra LargeThis is a great cutting board, large enough to carve a large roast or turkey with a drip ridge around so the jucies don't run over. It is quite big and solid and well made. I am thinking of getting another one to put on another counter in my kitchen as I like to keep a clean board on the counter all the time.

Redi Edge Original Knife Sharpener

Redi-Edge Knife Sharpener in a Selection of ColorsA friend of mine has one of these, and he and I get together now and then to sharpen knives: hunting and pocket knives as well as my kitchen knives. This gadget is unlike any other I have used. One stage sharpening--all at a perfectly consistent 20° angle--gives the best edge I have obtained from a sharpener. For my kitchen knives, just quick uses of a sharpening steel (with knives at 20 degrees) keeps them sharp for a good six weeks at a time. (I use them two or three times a day.) A good test of an appropriately sharp edge is paper-cutting, and blades sharpened with this tool cut through a paper bag with no effort. After sharpening with this tool, a bit of time with a wet stone hones points and edges enough to shave arm-hair.

I have used Chef's Choice with good results, but this little sharpener gives a keen edge with less effort. Since yesterday's sharpening session, I have ordered one of these for myself. Amazon's prices are about the best I have found, and these Klawhorn sharpeners are available from good hunting and sporting supply sites, too. It dumbfounds me that these sharpeners aren't more common in kitchen-gadget stores or sites.

Very simple and easy to use. Taught my wife and my sister-in-law in a matter of seconds. Can visibly see the metal shavings. Ready for a steel for fine-tuning!

This will put a sharp edge on your blade right now.

But, there is a catch.

The cutters are carbide. So they sharpen by removing metal, as in scraping it off.

In fact, you will see the metal bits on the back side of the cutters. The first time I used mine I was a little surprised by how much came off. I would suggest using an old kitchen knife to practice with before using it on your best blade. Press down a little to take off just a bit, press hard and watch the metal fly.

If you want an excellent edge and you want it right now, use this product. If you are into knives, you will also want a Lansky sharpener for those fine edged blades.

This is the best manual knife sharpener I've used. Very quickly puts a sharp edge on the stainless blade of my work knife without removing too much steel

Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 7-Inch Fine Edge Santoku Knife

Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 7-Inch Fine Edge Santoku KnifeThis 7-inch fine edge santoku knife is the most recent addition to my collection of W?sthof-Trident Classic knives. I've been using Asian knives for a long time, but this one has become my favorite because the wide blade makes fast work of scooping up chopped vegetables. you can make very thin slices of vegetables, too. I love using this knife for slicing celery, carrots, nappa cabbage, bok choy, and daikon radish for stir-fries. So far, it has stayed quite sharp without need for professional sharpening. I hand wash and dry it and store it in a wooden knife block.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I've been way over hyped on this line of knives but you know how it is...marketing is everything.

If you are stuck on buying the name "Wusthof" then buy this in the "Grand Prix" line 'cause the grip on this "Classic" line of blades is the least comfortable of all the riveted scale handles available...too deep and narrow for a 12 hour day in a commercial kitchen or a big hand (grip test it against other brands before you choose, I might be wrong ;-). This Santoku weighs almost 3 oz. less than other brands... a trend that I've found throughout this line. I've tested this one at work and I need something heavier.

No complaints on the blade, edge, and finish though, it's top notch.

If you are just browsing then check out the Kai Santoku...for just $10.00 more you get the best Santoku available. If you want an equal but heavier blade for a GREAT price buy a Henckels 4 Star.

We concede 4 mojo*z for the blade only! Buy the "Grand Prix".

This knife is excellent for small hands. Because of arthritis, my grip is not as good as it was, and I've found this knife to be perfect! I use it with ease for everything (except breads) and I plan to buy another for myself and one for my mother who has similar hand problems. I searched for a knife like this for years. I highly recommend it!

Individual Steak knife Pro-Series II Single Steak knife

Individual Steak knife Pro-Series II Single Steak knifeThese arrived lickety-split. The quality is good. They are not as awesome as the knives in the Ergo Chef Pro Series 8 knife set that I bought from Amazon two weeks ago but they are good and a good value. I spent a sick amount of time reviewing all the different steak knives I could get and I really wanted the not serrated German ones that cost over $40 each but in the end, well, I got six of these for less than one of those and they are good quality and I'm happy.

They appeared to me to be slightly larger than I expected from the photo. The knives are 9.3" long and the blade is 0.8" wide where it meets the handle. The handle is made of a slightly shinier material than the Pro Series knives. The balance is good. Yea, whatever, they're knives. Get 'em.

Kuhn Rikon Kitchen Shears

Kuhn Rikon 2704 Kitchen Shears, WhiteMy favorite thing about these shears is the spring action that makes cutting easier for me. The blades are very sharp and fit closely for a clean cut without too much effort. In addition to kitchen tasks, they do extremely well on paper and ribbon, even many thicknesses, and were heavily used during package wrapping season. I use them often in the kitchen and in the utility room, however when making holiday wreaths (cutting wire and small but tough branches) I prefer the Wusthoff come-apart shears (Wüsthof Come-Apart Kitchen Shears) because it's easier to wash the sap off and if the blades get nicked, it's easier to sharpen them, plus they have the 'bone notch' that works well with branches. I got a nick in one of the blades of these shears and although they continue to cut fine, I don't feel the nick going away through the self-sharpening action. Maybe it just takes more time. Still, I can't complain about the sharpness of the blades.

I also like that the blade tips are narrow enough to get under a sealed box flap for opening shipped packages and they cut cardboard easily. They do well opening other packages too. Although I love the Wusthoff shears, the bone notch limits their ability to cut paper and cut open plastic packages as effectively as these shears do so I have both available.

There is a bottle opener at the bottom of the blade, but I've never used it, in part because I don't keep the shears in the case, but rather hang them by the hole in the handle. As a result holding them closed during the bottle opening exercise is a little awkward. I also found the herb stripping slots too sharp to strip the leaves without cutting the stem, but that's not a problem since fingers work pretty well for that task. While those extra functions don't add value, in my opinion, the sharp spring action scissors themselves are worth having to compliment whatever else you use as kitchen shears.

These shears cut through everything in the kitchen and many other things around the house, especially that difficult-to-open plastic packaging like that surrounding batteries. Highly recommended! I would recommend model #2710, though, above these, the #2706, as they're a bit larger and more versatile.

Everyone needs utility shears. Whether it's outside gardening or inside for a piece of cardboard, carpet or chicken. But you want to pay about $10. So two years ago I got a well-known brand in that price range, and the handle broke, not to mention that they didn't cut, they pinched things until they gave in or not. The Kuhn Rikon shears are sharp, cut, and the bright handle makes them easy to find. It would be better to have a way to keep them closed without the protective cover. They should just go in your pocket. Otherwise they are great and well worth the investment.

These are tough kitchen shears. I find they are good for cutting up meat, slicing through packaging, etc. Great all around. I like the spring action handles and the self sharpening blades. Highly recommended.

Amco Classic Spreaders, Stainless Steel Blades, Set of 4

Amco Classic Spreaders, Stainless Steel Blades, Set of 4I ordered these from Amazon just before Thanksgiving because I needed to take some hors' d'oeuvres to Thanksgiving dinner. I had some various high-end cheese spreads. Thanksgiving this year was going to be a little bit formal and I realized that I didn't have any little spreaders. I went to Amazon, looked up spreader and found these. I ordered it and it got here quickly. These worked out great and they are nice looking. I recommend them. Good price, too!

These are the best little butter knives I could find on the internet or at any retail store and the price was fantastic. They are not quite as decorative as I had originally hoped to find, but they look nice and have a good weight to them. At first I was just looking for a few decorative knives to put out with the butter dishes at our large family holiday meals. Then I found these cute little knives, and marked down to boot! I bought 4 packages (4 per package) and now I'll just put one out with each place setting.

These spreaders are made of two partsthe handle and the spreader. When I opened them and took them out of the package two of the spreaders were pulled right apart. 2 of 4 spreaders were broken when sent to me. I would not recommend this product and would have returned it if I didn't have to pay for shipping.

These spreaders are not knives for cutting with and are not supposed to be large. As spreaders, they are the correct size. They are stylish and are made from good quality materials. I especially like the seamless, one-piece construction (no separately attached handles with the potential to eventually loosen and/or fall off as I've experienced). These spreaders wash and polish well, looking especially nice placed next to my large glass covered cheese tray. These spreaders are nice enough to use for any occasion. I shopped around before buying and would purchase these again.

8"osaka Yanagiba Knife

8'osaka Yanagiba KnifeThis is a very nice slicing or carving knife. An Asian sashimi or yanagi knife has a single bevel edge either on the right or left side of the blade used for preparing sushi. When I saw the nice wooden box which contained the knife the label described the knife as having a Euro grind. After examining the knife it does have a european double bevel edge. The knife is extremely sharp and with a 50 rockwell hardness scale should be easy to sharpen and still be durable and not as fragile as blades with a hardness in the 60's. The blade has the appearance of Damascus steel, but doesn't say it's made from Damascus steel. The blade is VG-10, 67 layers which are forged together which make the blade the strongest you can buy without have a custom made knife.

Wusthof Ikon 6-Inch Straight Fork with Blackwood Handle

Wusthof Ikon 6-Inch Straight Fork with Blackwood HandleProbably not suitable for taking in hand luggage to a thanksgiving dinner.

Wickedly sharp tongs, be careful what you're doing. Unlike some other meat forks with nice curves, this one will fit into your knife block, right alongside a carving knife.

Other than that, does what it is supposed to do. Left handed, or right handed. It might work out for a vegetarian for holding tofu, but I can't really say. ;)

Happy Carving !

Norpro 370 Bread Slicer and Guide with Crumb Catcher

Norpro 370 Bread Slicer and Guide with Crumb CatcherOnly two things could be adjusted for me to like this slicer better. 1 the grooves could be deeper to keep from slicing into the wood. 2 the guide could be adjustable. Other than that, it is a handy tool to use with baked bread. We use a bread machine that makes a pound and a half loaf. This has really removed the guess work of slicing. The bread should be cooled a little before attempting to slice. We often take bread to functions and using this we now have nice even slices. It is a lot neater using it rather than a plain board, too. All in all, a great kitchen aide.

I purchased this slicing guide to help make even slices for sandwiches. As others before me have noted the sides are too far apart to accomodate a bread knife safely. I've even looked for a longer bread knife but can't seem to find one. Even with taking great care the cheap soft unfinished wood has been gouged. The second time my husband used it the forward motion of the knife that had slipped out of the guide knocked off the side and now the screws for that side won't stay in the wood without changing the way the slots line up. I truly regret this purchase.

Buy Norpro 370 Bread Slicer and Guide with Crumb Catcher Now

I have to start with an explanation that an 8" bread knife has only 7 1/4" of a blade exposed, the other 3/4" is inside the handle and is not useful. With the 6 3/4" spacing between the acrylic guides on this slicer you have only half an inch of the knife left on the other side when the knife is pushed all the way in. The spacing is just too wide for a regular knife and it slips out of the acrylic guide on the opposite side each time I move the knife in order to slice the bread. In order to get back into the slit I have to guide the knife with my other hand which is, of course, rediculous and even dangerous. Because of this, even if I used my left hand to guide the knife into the slit, the slices come out very ugly. Second, the bottom of this slicer is made of soft unfinished (you can't wash it) wood and after 3 slices (that's all I could handle) the wood got deep cuts and splinters. Third, the back panel of this slicer on the Amazon picture has a word "Bread" written in a handsom writing. On my slicer it said in thick block ugly letters: "Our daily bread". That's it, I learned my lesson, back it goes.

I used this slicer twice. The first time, the end kept falling out. I glued that in and the second time I used it, 2 of the tines broke. The loaves from the breadmaker don't fit and there is no adjustment, it just keeps sliding around and you can't get an even slice. If the tines hadn't broke, it would be in the mail back to China or wherever. Cheap shoddy merchandise, stay away from it.

I have been looking for a decent bread slicer for quite some time. This one sold by Amazon seemed to be exactly what I wanted. I ordered it and found it to be as good as stated. I can slice my homemade bread to a nice size --not too thin and not too thick. If desired, I can cut thicker slices by simply removing the end piece of the slicer and moving the loaf forward or thinner slices by pulling the loaf end away from the end piece.

Messermeister - Bamboo Magnet Block - Holds 10 Knives

Messermeister - Bamboo Magnet Block - Holds 10 KnivesI was hesitant to buy this item because I have a set of heavy Global knives, but the magnet on this item is strong enough to keep them straight -even my 8 inch heavy Chef's knife. You have to know where the magnets are located, but once you do that it is easy to get your knives on and off the rack and back on. The bottom two slots are better suited to utility knives because of the angle. What I like about this block is that the blades of your knives aren't getting dulled like they do in a regular knife block. As a bonus, it looks really cool on my counter.

The magnets don't hold up anything but small knives. I did not expect it to hold a cleaver, but I have Henckles knives and this block won't even hold up a 5" knife. When I place a knife against the block, it just slides off and down to the countertop. Too bad, I really thought it was pretty and I like the idea of seeing the knife I want to use without having to pull it out of a block. I have a wall mounted magnetic knife holder that works very well, so I was hoping this would be capable of doing the job because I remodeled my kitchen and don't want to screw a wall mount holder into the tile backsplash.

Friedr. Dick 1905 Exclusive Series Slicer

Friedr. Dick 1905 Exclusive Series 8-Inch SlicerThese knives are beautiful and incredibly well made. I've been using them for several months now and I couldn't ask for a nicer, more well balanced, superior knife. They sharpen nicely and keep their edges for a very long time. Yes, they are expensive, but I will have these for the rest of my life. I am very pleased with this purchase.

1905 was an eventful year: Albert Einstein published his quantum and relativity theory. In the same year Robert Koch was awarded the Nobel prize for discovering the medicine for treatment of tuberculosis. Seen as a miracle of technology was the largest German passenger ship "Kaiserin Auguste Viktoria" and this was duly celebrated. Celebrations also took place in Norway, namely the independence from Sweden. In Russia "Petersburg Bloody Sunday: and the mutiny on the armoured cruiser "Potemkin" heralded the Russian revolution, which left its sustainable mark on the world. Theodor Roosevelt was elected President of the United States for the second time, and in Amiens, France, the French visionary and important author of the 19th Century, Jules Verne, died. This new line is a resurgence of F. Dick cutlery production from the turn of the 20th century. This exclusive, patented, modern version features an extra sharp blade, and hygienic handle with exceptional design. The line also features an 'old world' style embossed F. 4-Pc Stainless Steel Steak Knife SetThis set was all that I expected and more. They have a nice weight and the finish is a nice quality. The blades are sharp and blend with my tableware. Very satisfied.

I recently received this item from Amazon. The knives are relatively close in pattern to an Oneida stainless set we use and that was the main reason for getting this specific set. After the first use they began to rust. These are supposed to be stainless steel. Even with repeated attempts, the rust could not be removed. I wish I had saved the packaging and could have sent back to Amazon directly. So, I contacted Oneida and was quickly told these are "marketed by Robinson Home Products" and they had forwarded my issue to them. Over a week later and no response. So much for customer service and product quality. I am extremely disappointed.

Kotobuki Seki 8-3/8-Inch Yanagi Knife

Kotobuki Seki 8-3/8-Inch Yanagi KnifeMy first sashimi knife. Maybe there are better ones out there, but I haven't tried any others yet.

It's sharp enough to do its job. It's cheap enough for me to afford. So no complaints.

Cooking every night, I use the heck out of my knives but I take really good care of them too. I prefer Japanese knives and I'm stunned at the performance of this knife and another from the same brand. The handles do not appear to be good quality but I must say that the look is deceiving because they are holding up well. The blades are amazing and it is a joy to use them on meats, fish, and veg. If you take care of your knives, are skilled at using them, and love to have quality tools in the kitchen, I recommend these knives over Shun and the other expensive brands any day. I purchased these knives to use as "junk knives" in case I needed to cut some foods that I thought may damage my expensive knives. I think I paid about $17 for this one and it's every bit as good as my Shun.

Tupperware 12" Pie Taker Cupcake Holder Round with Red Seal

Tupperware 12' Pie Taker Cupcake Holder Round with Red SealIt is not very deep so if you try to use it for cupcakes you will mess up the frosting.

I am an amateur telescope maker, and that means I 'make' telescope mirrors, and might also make telescope lens. The Tupperware 12" round holder with sealing lid is perfect for storing and transporting telescope mirrors and lens, which are still being worked on, or completed but not yet mounted in the telescope. I am currently working on my 10" mirror (long term project), and the mirror is now stored safely in another 12" round with lid. The two I bought were gifts . I gave one to my wife to replace the old one I'm using for the 10" mirror. The second one is also a gift to another amateur telescope maker who runs the Mirror Workshop I attend.

The only difficulty we have is that larger diameter rounds are not available. Mirror diameters increase in size. For example, 12.5", 16", 20", and other larger and intermediate sizes. The Tupperware design in strong, plastic, seals very tight, and will not accidentally open. It is perfect. Except there are no larger diameters, like 14", 18" , 24" etc.

Wusthof Gourmet 8-Inch Serrated Bread Knife

Wusthof Gourmet 8-Inch Serrated Bread KnifeTypically I will spend the extra cash on Wusthof's Classic line of knives because they are not stamped, rather forged (and trust me hold a much keener edge) and as I put these knives to work 40 hours a week i need that, but in the case of serrated knives, even with heavy usage(with proper care of course), the gourmet line holds up.

That said, if you are purchasing knives for your home, i.e. light usage, and not a professional environment I would lean toward the gourmet line for all of wusthof's products.

We bought this knife for my father-in-law for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. He said that he didn't realize how bad his other bread knife was until he started using this one. We've been slowly purchasing him Wusthof knives to replace his collection. We also use them ourselves and they are great!
