Swissmar Petite Cheese Knife Set, #SK8214SS

Swissmar Petite Cheese Knife Set, #SK8214SSI was rather surprised by how light these are from the picture I imagined them to be rather heavy in the hand. The handles must have hollow cores or something. It's not a diss on production the weight is well balanced and they don't feel flimsy, just light. The one blade shaped like a straight razor (for semi soft cheeses with rinds) wasn't quite long enough to cut to the center of the brie (maybe that's where the whole "petite" bit comes it) in a single motion but it's close and gracefully handled the last narrow wedges without squishing the center and mucking up the cheese's textue. My only wish was this set would've come with the vegetable peeler type knife for shaving hard cheesesthe top handled cleaver is great for standing pieces, but isn't super graceful with narrower wedges of hard cheese lain on their side. Over all quite good, nice modern styling, should work just fine for average sized cheeze platter peices. Also in my book being dishwasher safe is big a plus.

Ok just as my title said... This is the identical set for $12 under the Oneida line. So basically $24 for this set is to expensive... Goto walmart and save your money.

Ok as to the set itself, its ok in quality.. Not bad but not going to WOW anyone... So For $12, its a good value.. At $24.95 I would say no...

I hope this was helpful.

Chef's Choice M410 Crystal Crafter

Chef's Choice M410 Crystal CrafterI have looked for some time for a tool or sandpaper to smooth chips in china, and was delighted to see this demonstrated on television. OK so it is not the same as polishing a surface but it really works amazingly enough. I have a huge crystal bowl I am glad it is not expensive but it is pretty and useful. Recently I had some work done around my apartment and the person who did it put an unsightly chip that would certainly cut a person. I filed it smooth and since it is only about a half inch wide on a 14 inch bowl it barely shows. And this way the bowl still looks pretty. I keep fruit it and sometimes dry flowers. No one knows but me even though I've pointed it out.

My money was very well spent when I bought this. It's saved several glasses and mugs, and I'm sure I'll be able to rescue many more items in the future. Just be sure to use it very carefully. Anywhere that the wand accidentally touches will be scuffed! Also don't expect to have a polished finish; it will be a matt finish.

I put a bad chip on the edge of the glass lid to one of my favorite casserole dishes. This diamond file took the cutting edge off it in just a few strokes. I'm so glad I took a chance and bought this tool.

Waring KS80 Knife Sharpener, Black and Brushed Stainless

Waring KS80 Knife Sharpener, Black and Brushed StainlessAfter my wife complained that our kitchen knives were getting too dull to use, I set out to find a good knife sharpener for household use. I researched a bit and found several options both manual and electric. One name that kept popping up was "Chef's Choice" and I noticed very few negative comments on their models. Having both a discount coupon and gift certificate from Bed, Bath & Beyond I decide to make my decision there. Unfortunately, there wasn't any sales staff knowledgeable about knife sharpeners and I had to go it alone. It was there that I first noticed the Waring KS80 Professional Sharpener. With it's black and stainless finish it was definitely more attractive than the plain white Chef's Choice but, it was somewhat more expensive retailing at $100. I settled for the Chef's Choice 110, took it home and was promptly disappointed. On the expensive chef's knife I first tried it on, it left a decidedly sharp but ragged edge on the blade. It looked as though I had tried to sharpen the knife on the sidewalk! I didn't dare try sharpening any other knives and risk leaving such an ugly edge on them. Bed, Bath & Beyond gladly made an exchange for the Waring and I was much more pleased with it's final results a sharp blade with a more visually-pleasing edge. It even cleaned up the rough edge left by the Chef's Choice. The only disadvantage I have found is that, with most knives, the inch or so of blade nearest the handle cannot be sharpened since the hilt of the knife keeps it from being placed into the sharpener's slots. This, however, is not a major drawback since this area of the blade is not frequently encountered in most uses. The Chef's Choice will cover the entire blade length but with a very rough finish. I recommend the Waring over the Chef's Choice without reservation but the Waring is probably a bit too expensive for an appliance that will likely see only a very few uses a year.

This product works much better than I expected. It gives a very clean and fine edge to all of the knives I have used with it. I will never use another brand. Buy it you won't be sorry.

I have a manual sharpener, but in reality almost never use it. The electric sharpener makes keeping my knives sharp a no-brainer. There's a coarse grinder for knives that are dull. For most knives the fineand polishing-grinder works just great. If you have inexpensive knives, the coarse grinder will chew them up, but if you have well-made knives the Waring will work well. I've had good success with the Waring.

I received my knife sharpener very quickly and when I opened the box, I was very impressed; this was no rinky-dinky machine. I read over the instructions which were very simple, then using just a few at a time, over the course of 3 or 4 days, I got all my knives sharpened to a beautiful edge even some that looked hopeless. For years I've tried to learn how to sharpen knives the "old-fashioned" way. Pooh. A couple of minutes and my knife is sharpened to look better than it did when it was new. When they were all sharpened, then the machine went into the cabinet til needed again, whenever that might be. It does heat up and has to rest occasionally, but the instructions warned me of this. I love this product!

Want Waring KS80 Knife Sharpener, Black and Brushed Stainless Discount?

Sharpens medium to long knives. Short knives only part of the blade. The first two stations are very powerful and will remove a lot of metal and should only be used if the knife has nicks and no edge at all. The honing stage is best for most of my knives. I suggest using an old knife which you don;t care about first. to test all three operations.

Villeroy & Boch French Garden 5 Piece Place Setting

Villeroy & Boch French Garden 5 Piece Place SettingI am from Germany and love Villeroy & Boch which is a German company and very popular for its tableware (mostly for its dishes, not so much for its flatware).

When moving to the United States I was surprised that the selection of silverware is more limited than the one in Germany.

The silverware available in the U.S. is mainly produced in Vietnam, only one set I am aware of is made in Indonesia ("Mademoiselle", I think). This would not be a problem for me if it was actually mentioned in the product description or was visible on the amazon photos or on the official website on the Villeroy & Boch website. However, the print "Vietnam" has been removed from the photos with photoshop and the photos do not reflect the actual silverware you will receive. The silverware you will receive has a "Vietnam" print on the kife. The print makes an otherwise nice flatware set look cheap, visible for all your guests.

I expected high quality silverware made in Germany (unless mentioned otherwise), but received somewhat quality made silverware made in Vietnam... I am disappointed.

I uploaded some photos to get you a better idea what you will get when ordering this set.

Excellent quality flatware, well designed and good looking---and dare I say, not made in China (made in Viet Nam). I would have preferred the flatware to have been made in the USA.

Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper

Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate ChipperI buy the big blocks (5 kg) of Callebaut dark chocolate for baking. Until buying this great little tool, I used a 10" chef's knife to divide the block and chop the chocolate as necessary. For the unskilled or inexperienced, this can be dangerous and a little scary, and while it gets the job done, it feels clumsy and is none too great for the knife, either. Combined with a rubber mallet or a plastic-faced hammer, this is the right tool for this particular job. Great price for it, too.

NOTE: When using on the thick blocks, the mallet is not optional; the chipper doesn't work without it.

I love to bake and make candy with bulk chocolate, but the one aspect of the process that I dread is cutting up the large chunks of chocolate. It is difficult to chop through the hard chocolate with a chefs knife. I find the job unpredictable and somewhat dangerous. This sturdy tool has resolved the issue.

I am a home cook, not a professional and I rarely have chunks of chocolate that weigh more than a couple of pounds. This tool permits chipping of the chocolate for melting in a manageable manner. I consider this method far safer than using the chef's knife. The chocolate flies around less, and to help capture the bits that leave the cutting board, I put a large piece of wax paper, or parchment paper under the cutting board.

The tool does not produce perfectly consistently sized pieces, like those bags of pre-made chocolate chunks for cookies, but for breaking down bulk chocolate to prepare for melting, this tool does its job.

Buy Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper Now

This is a well made product that makes life much easier for bakers. It is perfect for chopping bulk chocolate and minimizes the time it would take if you were chopping chocolate with a knife. It is very sturdy and well-built.

Read Best Reviews of Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper Here

Let me start with a brief explanation of my situation with this chipper: I am a home chef/confectioner that makes candy and chocolates on a fairly regular basis, and I needed something better than either store-bought chocolate chips (no cocoa butter to speak of) or $15/6 oz locally bought quality bars (only one place near me carries anything like Valrhona, Callebaut, etc and they are pricey). So I purchased a bulk bar online.

This thing is the only feasible way I've thought up for dealing with the mass of bulk chocolate I purchased. It does take significantly more work to make fine chunks, but it is doable. Moreover, I don't think there is any way I could have dealt with the 12lb bar I had.

Here's my current 'chunking' flow.

-Place bar in a large rubbermaid container on a solid surface. You generate a lot of 'dust' when you do this, and it's a shame to waste good chocolate. Also it's a real pain to clean up otherwise.

-Take a hammer, place chipper near the edge, start knocking off big chunks. I usually end up with fragments that span the whole length of the chunk (~4-6 inches) by 1-2", by .5-1".

-Break these up into roughly 1"x.5"x.5" chunks. That's about as small as I can get with this thing (which for a few minutes of labor and a starting piece 2"x6"x12" isn't bad!)

-Pour the resulting chunks and dust into a HEAVY duty ziplock. double bag it.

-Place something thick and soft (piece of leather, silicon potholder, etc) over the bag, and smash it a bit.

Now, I wouldn't really recommend this to make chunks for cookies, etc. The resultant bits are so variable that it'd be hard to get anything like consistency. If you want that buy grocery store bars and hammer them because that isn't what this thing is for. This is for taking large, heavy bars of bulk chocolate and breaking it down into manageable pieces you can melt easily. And not only does it do that very well, but I can't imagine doing it without this (or something nearly identical).

Though the metalwork will never appear in a museum of modern art, this chipper is a solid, sturdy tool that works perfectly. I've been looking for a chipper for some time, and for the price, this tool is a GREAT deal. Recommended.

Farberware Color Paring Knives, Mixed Colors, Set of 4

Farberware Color Paring Knives, Mixed Colors, Set of 4I started using these knives a few years ago because I happen to see them in a local hardware store. They worked so well for so many different usages that I actually wore them out. I spent almost a full day going from store to store trying to find the EXACT brand, shape, and color but could not. I finally checked out Amazon and found them. I can't say anything negative about this product because it WORKS WELL FOR so many things.

Seems like the handle is too thin or the blade too short or something! Just very difficult to hold and use these knives. Next time I'll pay a bit more and hope for something easier to use.

Want OXO Good Grips Professional 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife Discount?

That's what I'm telling my best friend when I give it to her. She gave me a short list of things she wanted/needed and a small paring knife was on the list. Since I didn't want to come off as an extreme cheapo I looked at several pricier knives but settled on this one because I already own the identical knife and love it for plenty of reasons beyond its reasonable price tag.

The size of this knife is wonderful for most kitchen tasks. I use it for chopping vegetables every day but it also does a formidable job when carving a pumpkin or peeling potatoes or trimming a zucchini. The handle is very comfortable which is a signature feature for the OXO brand. I can use this for a long time without any hand cramping or fatigue. The blade is super sharp and if you follow the manufacturer's suggestion to hand wash it will stay that way. Overall, this knife is nicely balanced and well made. I have been using this knife for quite awhile and I haven't had to sharpen it yet as it still has a solid and sharp cutting edge. I also own the 4" version of this knife, but this is my go to knife for most jobs.

YOSHIHIRO- Namiuchi Ao-ko / Blue Steel Yanagi Kiritsuke Sword Sashimi Sushi Chef Knife 10.5" 270mm

YOSHIHIRO- Namiuchi Ao-ko / Blue Steel Yanagi Kiritsuke Sword Sashimi Sushi Chef Knife 10.5' 270mm -MADE IN JAPANRecieved this knive today and it looked beautiful. Having been a chef for 30 years I was looking forward to trying a new knife. To start this blade is absolutely incredible! All superlatives! I cut some tuna and salmon for sashimi and it was like cutting through warm butter. EFFORTLESS! It was if the weight of the blade was doing the slicing. Truely incredible!! I've worked with many different brands of knives over the years and these are very special. They are specialized and not for all kitchen work but if your making sushi or sashimi or working with veges or seafood these are truely remarkable.

I ordered this knife recently from Yoshihiro. They shipped it for free and the knife arrived in perfect condition VERY quickly (just a couple days). The quality of craftmanship is truly impressive from the seemingly-one-piece wood scabbard to the handle and most definitely the blade. I've made a few knives myself, and looking at this blade I definitely feel like I'm holding something hand forged and sharpened, not just ground out by machines. It's breathtakingly sharp and the handle shape and length allow for a variety of grip positions. I've used it once so far and I am very impressed. The single-bevel design will be excellent for cutting thin slices of any meat or fish I can think of and it makes quick work of vegetables. I'll be sharpening this on high grade, very fine waterstones at some point, which is the recommended method from the manufacturer. I'd say this knife is well worth the money and will probablylast a lifetime.

Stainless Steel Lobster Seafood Fork, Set of 4

Stainless Steel Lobster Seafood Fork, Set of 4I love these things. They're exactly what I needed for cracking crab legs. I typically use the forks provided in the restaurant, but end up twisting them up in the process... and they don't work nearly as well as these forks do! The nice thing about these is the serrated tines, which make speedy work of opening up the leg.

They're sturdy, too.

Well worth the price!

Wood Utility/Bread Cutting Boards

Wood Utility/Bread Cutting Board, 16 X 22I needed one to replace the one that came with our cabinets. The one I had was warped too much to fit into the slides. This one is a perfect fit for that. It has a notched edge on each end so you can reach in and grab it to pull it out. I use it all the time and it works well

I am adding on here in December because this cutting board is not holding up too well. It is starting to split. It is keeping its flat shape so I can still stick it into the slot in my cabinet. Time will tell on this, but at 6 months, I would expect better.

This product was badly misrepresented. The photograph shows endcaps; there are no endcaps on the board. The product description indicates hardwood construction; the board we received is glued together pieces of pine (which is considered soft wood), not a quality hardwood (such as maple, walnut or bamboo), that we expected for the price of the board. Unfortunately, we needed this piece for a rental unit, and have already cut a groove in it to be able to pull it out of the slot or we would be returning it. We have successfully purchased many items from Amazon, and are saddened by this experience.

The cutting board is pretty but flawed.

The metal band is not tight against the wood. In several places, it's loose enough to catch something, like fingers and hands. Since the metal edge is also very sharp, I managed to cut myself four times before I finally threw the blasted thing away.

They have splintered/pilled a little but that may be a characteristic of bamboo, not sure cause these are the first i have owned.

One good thing, the fibers seem to swell after washing so shallow cut marks seem to heal themselves

Professional Series 8" Chef Knife

Professional Series 8' Chef KnifeThis is a nice heavy, good quality chef's knife for those who really like the weight of a heavier knife while cooking. It came very well packed in a plastic sleeve as well as a cardboard case with Viking metal rivets so I saved that to store it when not in use. Great knife for the price.

Kyocera Ceramic 4.5 Inch Utility Knife

Kyocera Revolution Series 4-1/4 Inch Utility Knife, Black BladeWhat a knife! I did not buy this particular knife from Amazon, but was an impulse buy at an asian market which had these at a competitive price.

The blade almost looks like a cheap plastic utensil, but don't let the looks deceive you. . . this knife is sharp! There was no sleeve in the packaging, and I got a nick on my finger handling the knife the very first time.

Also with the blade being so hard, you will need to be sure that the knife takes no hard shocks or flexes too much, or the ceramic may break. I would use a mat for cutting on a Granite(or Corian) countertop to avoid chipping the blade(or maybe cutting a groove in the stone!). There are places near the edge that look translucent and you can see the very fine lines along the blade from what I assume would be from the grinding process to finish the blade.

Cutting veggies and meat is very nice, but make sure you are using a hardwood board, or cutting mat, as this sucker leaves very fine grooves on supermarket cutting boards. If the knife were any heavier the cutting would do itself!

Already owning a well-rounded selection of Wusthof Classic knives, I didn't need a medium-sized slicer. Having received this knife as a gift, it was a nice introduction to Kyocera's ceramic knives. The edge quality of this knife (and I imagine the entire Kyocera line as well) is superb. If proper care is given, I can hardly imagine a better line of knives for the home cook (save for a boning and serrated bread knife). One concern I had was that the entire Revolution line has blunted (but edged..) tips, instead of pointed tips that nearly all other knives have. I needn't have worried. I used this rather large (for the task at hand) knife in place of my beloved Wusthof Classic trimming knife (#4002) to trim fat and sinew from a piece of flank steak while preparing fajitas and the rounded-yet-sharp-edged tip easily found it's way between fat, sinew, and the meat just as efficiently as my Wusthof. As Kyocera will tell you, ceramic blades are not for cutting around bone or jobs that may require twisting of the blade (such as boning), but for day-to-day slicing, they are very tough to beat. As I have 3 (going on 4 children) and perform 99% of the cooking in my household, I appreciate the time saved by not having to meticulously maintain the edge of steel knife after each use. For that reason, I have already acquired the 3" paring knife and will be purchasing the 7" chef's model in the near future.

Until recently, I used a fancy German stainless steel paring knife. It used to work OK but in the past few years, it refused to stay sharp. It was never sharp enough, even though I'd frequently use a sharpening steel on it. I even had it professionally sharpened, but it quickly got dull again. Because I used it often, this got frustrating (and dull knives are dangerous), so I looked for an alternative.

This Kyocera ceramic knife is amazingly sharp. It easily slices a tomato without having to poke the skin first (good thing, because the knife has a blunt tip). It even cuts through banana peels from the outside (I cut them up before composting). It lets me make thinner slices and handles well. The blade already has some minor staining (not a problem with stainless steel), and as others have pointed out, it's not to be used to smash garlic, but those are minor points. It cuts very well, and that's what a knife is for. Kudos, Kyocera!

I thought a long time before buying one of these knives. I got this model, FK-110WH. It's a 4.25 inch long bladed general utility knife. I'm not sure that I'm the typical purchaser of this type of knife because I bought it for just one thing, to make SALSA.

We own a lot of very nice knives. 8 of them are Wusthof knives, two of them are Cutco and then this one. I bought each of them separately and for a specific use so I'm not with the reviewers who complain it's lack of versatility. That's fine with me as I have other knives for those things. It's true that there are some things you shouldn't use a ceramic knife for. If you're not OK with that, get something else.

My family loves salsa and I'm the go-to guy for that. I've been using an 4582/12 Wusthof knife. That's a 12 cm prep chef's knife. It's my favorite knife and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's plain and simple the best all around knife I've ever owned. But for slicing fruits and vegetables, this Kyocera ceramic is far and above it.

The first time I used it my mouth popped open. And remember, I'm not comparing it to cruddy knives. It may be specialized but if you do a lot of slicing, you should have this knife, or one like it in your block. Even when cutting along the edge of a slick tomato skin, this thing will go right through it rather than slipping of the side and cutting your finger. If you're worried about it being too sharp for you, don't. The sharper the knife, the safer it is. You want your knife to be so sharp that it cuts right through whatever you intend it cut. It's when the blade is dull that it tends to go off target and endanger your digits.

30 bucks. The cheapest knife I own but I'm sure I'll come back to it again and again. I probably wouldn't buy this type of knife (ceramic) in the "Chef's" style but to slice vegetables, everyone should have one.

Rosewill RHKN-11001 14-Piece Stainless Stell Knife Cutlery Block Set

Rosewill RHKN-11001 14-Piece Stainless Stell Knife Cutlery Block SetProbably the best kitchen knife set I've owned to date. I was so impressed by them that I ordered a second batch for my mother-in-law, who is an insanely dedicated cooking fanatic: She loves 'em, or at least she claims she does. She tends to spin them around in her hands with a look of burning hatred when she talks to me in her kitchen. I genuinely fear for my life. She dislikes me whole-heartedly.

But back on topic: holy heck, can these things cut. I have had no issues at all with them, personally!

This Knife Set was not what I Had Expected, But was exactly as I At First Thought I Would Get, Would Not Purchase Again, Live and Learn, Oh! Well I Can Use The Wood Block for some of my other knives.
