Victorinox 11-Piece Knife Set with Block, Rosewood Handles

Victorinox 11-Piece Knife Set with Block, Rosewood HandlesWe are happy with this purchase. The knives are very light and very sharp. We are replacing a cheap set so this is a treat.

After doing a lot of research into knives, I found that many sites recommend the Victorinox Forschner knives. Taking that recommendation, I suggested that this rosewood set would make a nice Christmas gift. It turns out I was wrong. When opening the box, my first thought was, "someone is selling knock-off knives branded as Victorinox". One of the steak knives was in where the paring knife should go so I swapped them and noticed that because the slot for the small paring knife is so large, the knife tilts down out of line with all the other knives. I can see why maybe someone swapped the knives in the first place because the steak knife slots are too small and you can feel the serrations cutting into the wood just trying to insert them. Then once you do get the steak knives into their slots, they still stick out leaving about 1cm of the blade exposed. The angle of the wood handle is not in line with the angle of the block so on top of these other issues they make this set look like I got it for $20 at a garage sale. The 10" slicer had a gouge on it and the handle of the steel is a different shade from the rest of the knives.

I haven't bothered using them since they look so bad so I can't comment on the quality of the steel. I'm setting up a return ASAP. I've posted a few user images for this product as well to illustrate these issues. Maybe quality control just missed this one but if you're looking at these knives you might want to think twice. Maybe the ones with the Fibrox handles won't have all these problems.

Premium Suction-Base Knife Sharpener Tungsten Carbide

Premium Suction-Base Knife Sharpener Tungsten CarbideReally bad copy of a good product! I purchased two of these. Took one out and tried to get the suction cup to hold as designed. It would not hold very well if at all. Tried the second one and the same was true. These are actually dangerous! If you get them to hold it's only going to be for a very short time and when you go to sharpen your knife it lets loose as you are pulling the knife through the little sharpening blades!

Spend more money and get the good one.

Does not work package say toy will not sharpen anything its a ripoff don't lose your money this is a peace of junk!!!!!!!!!!!

If I had the resources, I'd test the blades to see if they were really Tungsten Carbide or just High-speed steel. They certainly dulled rapidly against supposedly softer stainless steel. I won't buy this product again. I won't recommend it to anyone I know. I won't buy anything that looks like it was made by the same manufacturer.

Boston Warehouse Dollhouse Cheese Grater

Boston Warehouse Dollhouse Cheese GraterI purchased this cheese grater to add to my collestion, i also have the pizza cutter and the dish scrubber. This one is so cute i hate using it, but when i do it serves its purpose. I also use it as a deorative piece on my kitchen shelf its that cute, and its a great coversation piece when people see it.

I was looking for an enexpensive grater for grinding soap for laundry detergent...for some reason it seemed wrong to use the same one I use for food...this one not only works perfectly (the hem of the skirt cleverly keeps the grater still), but it's so cute, I leave it one the counter rather that storing it in the cabinet.

Victorinox Cutlery 9-Inch Wavy Edge Bread Knife, Black Polypropylene Handle

Victorinox Cutlery 9-Inch Wavy Edge Bread Knife, Black Polypropylene HandleBefore I bought, I read a lot of Amazon reviews on the 10.25 inch Victorinox 47547. I have an old, 8" Chicago Cutlery bread knife that is kinda dull. I wanted a new bread knife, and I thought I wanted a longer blade. Two things in those otherwise great reviews caught my attention: the blade "was not too rigid," and it "was sharpened on only one side." (The reviewers said the knife being sharpened on only one side would cause the blade to drift offline during a cut--and I thought I was a perfectionist!). This "offline" complaint drove me to seriously consider the Wustoff (the $126 model--so I wouldn't have to put up with those aggravating offline cuts). But before I spent that much money, I went to see one at a local store. Lo and behold, the Wustoff blade--the $126 one--is sharpened on only one side! (My guess is, all wavy-edge, serrated knife blades are sharpened this way... so much for perfect cuts.) Once I found out about one-sided sharpening on all the blades I was considering, the $26 Victorinox models were looking very good. Because I've noticed that my knuckles get in the way when I slice, I ended up getting the Victorinox 9-Inch Wavy Edge Bread Knife, with the offset handle. Its blade is plenty thick and stiff, and very sharp. I now enjoy slicing bread without having to manipulate a straight knife because of my knuckles. And, at this price, I can afford to buy a new knife every time one gets dull. PS: My freehand, thin bread slices are an even thickness from top-to-bottom and side-to-side.

Six Months Later: for the first time I used the knife on something other than bread, a raw potato. Lo and behold, the blade does drift offline as you cut, it pushes away from the sharpened side. Can't imagine where this is a big deal (I didn't really notice it slicing bread), and it seems to be able to be controlled if you try.

It's the best I've ever owned. The Z shape helps keeping your knucles off of the cutting board and the blade can handle any job with maestry!

This knife cuts like its more famous sibling, the R H. Forschner by Victorinox 10-1/4-Inch Curved Blade Bread Knife. I happen to like how the other performs, so I later bought this offset, slightly shorter bread knife and brought it to my workplace for cutting sandwiches and bread. The blade obviously does not have the heft of (way) more expensive bread knives, and it can flex a bit, but its performance is definitely a tremendous step up from the similarly priced one that my coworkers and I had been using previously at work.

I buy a lot of freshly baked bread and find that having a good bread knife is a must. For me this knife has the trifecta: It is well balanced, has a comfortable grip, and slices effortlessly. I also really like the raised handle as it makes it easier for me to cut slices of bread with an even thickness. Victorinox has a reputation for making high quality knives at a good price and this offering does not disappoint.

Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan 4-Piece Steak Knife Set

Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan 4-Piece Steak Knife SetThese knifes are excellent value. They are razor sharp when received and stay that way with a few strokes of a sharpner, after or before each use. The ony thing is these knifes are not drop forged, they are stamped steel, but are of excellent quility. One last thing do not put these knifes in the dishwasher it will damage the handles and the blades. Hand wash them only. I would recommend these knifes to anyone on a budget as a very good product for a very reasonable price.

My mother-in-law had Chicago Cutlery (still has the same set in daily use, actually), and that is what my husband grew up with. He liked the feel and recognized the excellent quality, so in 1998 when he moved out, we went to the Chicago Cutlery store and spent about two hours there, handling knives, choosing a set. This was one of our first dates, actually, and I liked the knives enough to marry the guy. :-) A couple of years ago, two of the steak knifes snapped off just above the handle. Eventually I got around to contacting the company for replacements, and the process was very easy and quick, and they simply sent a set of four. Our old set was "Metropolitan" in black, but these new knifes didn't look the same. They are, in fact, very different. They are shaped very differently. Everything is lighter the handles are much lighter and feel like plastic instead of slate, the rivets are thinner, and the blades are SIGNIFICANTLY thinner. The blades are so thin, that in the first couple of days, the tips actually bent, and easily bent back. They do not hold an edge for long at all. After a couple of weeks, they just became the utility knives I use for cutting oranges, or those shrinky plastic seals on the salad containers. If I need to say, cut a steak, I put it back in the block and grab an old knife, or one of the Cutco knives I brought to the marriage. I know our favorite consumer magazine just gave these knives a good review, but I have to disagree. They are just this side of useless, and we would never buy anything like this new. If you are shopping based on the reputation of Chicago Cutlery, know that these are not the knives that reputation was built on.

Buy Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan 4-Piece Steak Knife Set Now

These seem to be well made, and I would expect them to last a long time. I can't imagine the riveted handles ever breaking like cheap knives sometimes do. Compared to a lot of knives, these were very reasonably priced. The only negative to them is, the blades weren't overly sharp from the factory. A couple of swipes over the hone and that took care of that.

LamsonSharp 3' x 6' Chef?s Slotted Turner, right-handAn excellent product. Many, many uses. Has retained it's color and flexibility after multiple washing in the dishwasher. My son is also requesting this turner. Well worth the money.

I have been looking for one of these slotted turners everywhere, but never thought to look on Amazon.com. I happened to be shopping on Amazon's website and saw it. It came in the mail two days later. I tried it that very night and was so happy. The shape makes all the difference when cooking fish. I highly recommend it

The most delecate items can be plated with this spatula. I have even used it for poached eggs. My 2 hands are never empty with this spatula and my favorite pair of tongs! This is a top quality professional spatula.

This product makes life easier in the kitchen. Traditionally it is a fish turner, but I use it for getting anything dense out of a pan. The end of it is angled to facilitate removal, while it is very thin and sharp enough to cut a crust from the pan. The piece is also very flexible which helps with that first piece. All of these features are essential to the wide variety of use possible. I consider this a multi-tasker that will always have a place in my kitchen. With this one you can forget the thick, firm spatulas, except for the BBQ.

I found out after the fact that this was recommend by Burt Wolf in the New Cooks Catalogue. They gave it a very favorable review, but I would say that they underrated it. That is how much I like it.

I recommend this piece.

Richardson Sheffield 5-Piece Gripi Knife Set with Wooden Block, PurpleNot only is the colour perfect for my kitchen but, unlike many decorative items, it's functional too. The knives cut beautifully.

They seem good quality, however expect better finishing knife handles. The purple color is a little pale in reality, because in the photos a more intense look. However they have good design in my opinion. There is also a curious detail, does not say where they were made, it would bother me much China as just ordered these because I think that Chinese products are often of poor quality.

I got this for my sister for her birthday. It is really cute but what I ordered and what I got were two different things. The handle on the spreader is different than the one that is pictured. Instead of three round ladybugs that make up the handle, it's just one whole ladybug. I'm sort of confused on why that is. My sister loved it either way, I just don't understand why I got a different item.

AnySharp Knife Sharpener

Anysharp Knife Sharpener, BlueI have never taken the time to write a review but this great product deserves all the attention it can get. AnySharp really lives up to its claims. I have owned every knife sharpener from a grinding wheel, oil stone, electric sharpeners diamond and otherwise, as well as an assortment of hand held devices which are all retired now that I have AnySharp. It is safe. It is fast. It can make a cheap super market knife cut like an expensive German knife. Yes the cheap knives may not hold the edge as long but with AnySharp you can restore the edge with a couple of strokes. I have restored old knives to service with this sharpener. It also reaches and sharpens the entire blade better than wheeled devices. I just wish I owned the company or at least a couple more sharpeners for the camping and fishing.

This worked very well on my Swiss Army Knife. It also worked very well on a cheap supermarket knife. It did not work well on my nicer Henckles or Wusthof knives. I think the Henckles and Wusthof knives are a harder steel and the Anysharp just couldn't bring them to their best sharpness. I will take these knives to a professional sharpener every year or two, so I am very familiar with the feeling they have when they are freshly sharpened. This did not bring them to that level of sharpness.

For softer knives, it worked great and I would recommend it. It did not harm my Hunckles or Wusthof knives.

Buy AnySharp Knife Sharpener Now

Like many people who have reviewed this product, I too was looking for a sharpener that was easy to use, didn't cost a bundle and REALLY worked. I've tried many, and have wasted a lot of good money in my quest. Well, my search is finally over. After receiving this tiny device only a few days after I ordered it on Amazon, I went to work sharpening every dull knife I could find. First, let me say the suction really works well -there was no loosening at all of the sharpener from the counter. How did it sharpen? Unlike some of the vendor's claims, there was no way I could sharpen any knife with just a few strokes. It took between 10 and 15 strokes to sharpen the blades, but what I was left with were knives that were sharper than when I bought them. I have a big set of quality Gerber kitchen knives, and I was happy to see that the sharpener did not appear to scratch, mar, or damage the blades at all -something that I can't say for the other sharpeners I've tried. It worked as well on my less expensive knives too. My only gripe -and it's a minor one -is that there's a bit of cleanup involved, as fine shavings from the blade accumulate on the counter and in the sharpener itself. But if that's what it takes to sharpen my knives, that's a small price to pay. I'm interested to see how well this device works after I've used it 10 or 20 or 50 times. Will it continue to perform like new? If not, I won't complain. At such a low cost, I can always buy another.

I wasn't expecting much for 10 bucks but thought I'd give the Anysharp Knife Sharpener the benefit of the doubt and purchase one. While the suction cup mount does work extremely well, that's all I can say positively about this product. I am a knife collector and have many knives of quality steel as well as some conversation piece knives which are made of not so quality steel. I also own and use some classified as EDC knives and others I use outdoors for hunting and camping as well as other good and yes some cheap knives in my kitchen I use for food preparation. I use and am accomplished with various sharpening stones, a round sharpening steel, and an old fashion barber strop believing that this is the only proper way to sharpen my quality steel knives. I thought the Anysharp would fill a niche between my sharpening stones and my back pack hand sharpening tool for everyday touchups. I was wrong. At best this product will grind a blade to a "working edge" and not much more than that. I didn't try this product initially thank God with any of my quality knives. The five cheap knives I did sharpen with the Anysharp came out worse than when I used my backpack hand sharpener. This product literally destroys a good edge on most any knife and anyone who knows anything about blades knows that a quality serrated knife blade is not a V shaped edge and therefore cannot be properly sharpened with a product like this. If your need is simply for a sharpener for box cutter blades or garage or basement utility knives, this may suit your need but it can never be considered for any serious sharpening. Save the 10 bucks and put it towards a good flat stone or a quality sharpening system worthy of your good knives. I can't recommend this product to anyone and gave mine to my neighbor.

Well I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical about this little device given how tiny it was. But, given the price point, and the so-far perfect reviews, I decided to give it a whirl. I have several Global and Henckels knives that I received as gifts a couple of christmases ago, and sadly, as much as I cook and have a variety of kitchen devices at my disposal, I neglected to really maintain the knives themselves and they ended up to the point that they couldn't even adequately slice a ripe tomato.

My knives were in pretty bad shape I'll admit. I ended up having to pass the knives about 10-12 times each to really restore them to sharpness unlike the package's recommended 3-4. Nevertheless, they were restored to working order, even the serrated Henckels ones! That has always been the major obstacle to me picking any other sharpener is that most of them don't work well with serrated knives.

I can say with certainty that this puppy certainly performs well with Serrated knives just as well as my smooth-blade Global knives. Cleanup is minimal as well, the shavings carved off are minimal and a quick shake of the device will shake out any shavings that remain.

What really struck me about the device is how tiny it is! Seriously, this thing can easily fit in any kitchen drawer, even the messy ones! I'd wager it's about the size of a 1-cup Pyrex measuring cup, slightly smaller I'd say.

Overall, this is a solid product top to bottom. It really feels well constructed and so far the performance is really exemplary.

Mercer Cutlery Genesis 5" Forged Utility Knife, Steel/Black

Mercer Cutlery Genesis 5' Forged Utility Knife, Steel/BlackThis is by far the very best knife I've ever owned. I treat it like a baby now, only hand wash and never put in dish washer. Can't say enough good about it, maybe the knives I've had in the past weren't good and I thought they were.

Just what I was looking for. This is just the right size (width and length) and weight,

with a good grip handle, for all those everyday uses,

for people who do not have large jobs.

I would even cut meat with it besides cut fruit or onions for cooking;

but when parring anything, watch your fingers; I always cut my

fingers with a new knife but the really good ones are worse.

I don't know if the price was right or not;

If I really like something I keep it forever.

And it's High Carbon-No Stain German Steel. Yeah.

I have Wusthof knives. They are great but the forged line is too heavy for my wrists. I searched and read about knife brands over a period of time, looking for other reputable knives. This utility knife is wonderful. The handle is thick, round and really gives you something to grip onto. It also has a very slightly squishy, rough, non-slip texture which I like the feel of. The blade is paper-cutting sharp out of the package and has been keeping the same sharp edge with honing. Other things about the knife are that the blade is tapered and the weight is mostly in the handle but the blade is light. Less weight in the handle would be good, but I enjoy it so am willing to look beyond that.

Joyce Chen 50-0052, Chinese Kitchen Knife, 8-Inch

Joyce Chen 50-0052, Chinese Kitchen Knife, 8-InchI bought this Joyce Chen Chinese Kitchen Knife (clever) after owning one for the past 11 years as a wedding gift. Over the years I have used the one I own for everything from slicing tomatoes to separating rib steaks. I know it is not recommeded for bone cutting/breaking but it has worked well and resharpened well. I am very satisfied with the one I own. The only downside is with the wooden handle, like all wood it takes some extra care. If you let it dry out it will crack but with a little TLC and mineral oil it is okay.

I bought this knife about 5 years ago and, along with a paring knife, it's the only knife that I use. It's not fancy, it's not expensive, but it gets the job done. I'm almost embarrassed to admit, but I've done nothing but hone it until I bought a whetstone a few weeks ago. It seems to hold its blade pretty well. One of these days, I'll graduate to some fancier fare, but until then, I'm happy to call this my "go to" knife.

Buy Joyce Chen 50-0052, Chinese Kitchen Knife, 8-Inch Now

I have had my knife going on 8 years now, and it continues to be one of my three favorites, and my default knife for vegetables (chopping, mincing, dicing, julienne), beef, and most any "cutting-board" style task. I prefer it to my lovely French style chef's knife, although that sees a lot of use, too. I have a REALLY nice nakiri, and the poor thing almost never sees the light of day thanks to this knife (although this one is a bit awkward for, say, carving flowers out of fruit.)

It doesn't require as much sharpening as you'd expect, and the quality will blow knives 3 times the price out of the water. (You don't see many truly high-dollar/high-quality Chinese cook's knives in the U.S., so I'm guessing that something like this made of folded steel would be notably superior, but if I had the option, I'd still stick with my Joyce Chen.)

Feels good in the hand, and is a solid little knife. I've asked a lot of it, and it's stepped up VERY nicely. Its larger blade takes a bit of getting used to for those who aren't familiar with this style of knife, but I can take apart a whole chicken with it in no time flat, and I can finely (razor thin) chop celery an entire bunch at a time.

Bottom line: I love my knife.

Colour Grip 16-inch Cutting Board, Purple

Colour Grip 16-inch Cutting Board, PurpleNice, big size with rubber grips on either end to keep it from traveling around the counter. Also, this very pretty cutting board is a great match to my kitchen-aid grape mixer!

I've had it for 2 years now, and no complaints. I use it every time I cook. A good investment.

UPDATE 6/2013: Still going strong! My favorite way to use it is propped right across the sink. I even had a larger cutting board for a while there and got rid of it when we moved. This is all I need.

I like the size of the product. It is big, long, and it has enough space to spread out while cutting veggies or meat. I bought the purple for cutting meat and the blue for cutting veggies. I love both of them. I love the non-slip grip at the end of the cutting boards. It keeps the cutting board from slipping or moving around. It is a satisfying feeling, after using the product for over a month, to know that my money was well-spent. Nice! Good job Oneida!

Chef'sChoice 315S Diamond Electric Sharpener for Asian-Style Knives

Chef'sChoice 315S Diamond Electric Sharpener for Asian-Style KnivesI purposely bought this sharpener that grinds the finer 15 degree edge for all of my knives.

It takes a bit of time to initially change the existing 25 degree edge on some knives but after you are done using this sharpener you will have the sharpest kitchen knife you ever used.

I was dreading sending my Shuns and my Globals back to the factory for sharpening. I also didn't trust the local shops. I have a set of stones from in Razor Edge Systems in Minnesota, but I was worried I wouldn't be able to get the exact 15 degree angle. So I made the leap on this sharpener. I have run all my Asian style knives through it, and the result was a razor sharp edge and no ugly scratches up the body of the blade behind the edge (I saw that in one review). MAKE SURE YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. THAT WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUCCESS AND FAILURE!!!

Best thing since "sliced "bread. We changed all our knives to the Asian standards. This is one of those tools that actually works as well as advertised. Because we are vegetarian, chopping veggies is a daily chore that requires a sharp tool. This sharpener does the job quickly and efficiently. A good buy.

I had owned a larger Shun for a couple of years and it was getting dull. I asked at the place I purchased it from...not Amazon, if they had a sharpening service. Having none, I tried my wood working sharpening skills using diamond "stones" which improved the edge but a chisel is not a knife and I scratched the mirror finish near the edge. Cosmetic problem only.

After joining Amazon Prime, I searched for my needs and found the 315S to be most suited. It arrived in the now classic 2 days delivery and I went at my Shun. I was able to get it sharper than it was fresh out of the package with a few tries! The scratches are still there but true to the instructions (which could be a little more detailed), I did put a shaving edge on the whole length. The store I purchased the knife at now carries this model! I next went to my non-Japanese style knives and improved their edges too: it takes some time and patience, but it's worth it.

Inventions for Market One Click Stick Butter Cutter with Stainless Steel Blade

Inventions for Market One Click Stick Butter Cutter with Stainless Steel BladeHello!

I was looking for a review of this device because I've had it for some time 2 yrs. approx:. I didn't purchase it here but as a whim buy at a local Tuesday Morning store in Atlants on clearance priced under a Hamilton. I keep mine on the frig. door. I find it handy for making sauces and delivering butter staright to the pan and nice pats for pancakes, waffles or toast. I have given my mother one and she loves it to due to her arthritis flare ups.

This butter cutter is a goofy, gimmicky thing, but believe it or not, it actually does work.

Now, you may be saying "Nothing a knife can't do just as well", right? Yes, but then you have to wash the knife, or use a plastic knife that gets gunky and gross, especially if you live with boys. We're perpetually out of clean knives, usually because they're all in the dishwasher awaiting the next cycle.

I got tired of never having clean knives, so I figured $12 for the butter cutter wouldn't put me too out of sorts if it was as hokey as it looks. However, when it arrived, loading a stick of butter was a painless process. Using the clicking handle to dispense perfectly proportioned slabs of butter for easy spreading is pretty awesome, and I've found that it has lots of uses.

One little pat of butter:

per bagel half

in mashed potatoes

in vegetables and rice

in the frying pan

etc

The results are also a big hit when I host fancy dinner parties and everyone has restaurant-style buns and neat, perfectly formed little butter pats artfully arranged. The devil's in the details, after all, and the butter cutter will help you impress your friends.

Previous reviewers have done the hard work for you and me and and I've verified that, indeed, 4 pats = 1 tablespoon of butter. No guessing, no broken bits of butter littering the countertop, no half-opened sticks of butter in the fridge to pick up dirt and smells.

Know what the best part is? Since I got the butter cutter, we've used a lot less butter overall. How's that for health benefits from a seemingly goofy product?

Of course, it's not perfect, but these are all little nitpicks and oddities specific to this butter cutter:

it's a little bulky, but it fits just fine in my fridge's butter area

sometimes if you press too quickly, the butter pats will fold around the blade and stuff themselves up against the large opening in the back, but a good shake will make the pat come right out

if you're at the end of the stick (half a tablespoon or less), sometimes the blade will miss and you'll get the remaining butter dumped out, so it's not 100% precise

no "butter almost empty" visual indicator (see above). If it had some kind of transparent window, I think that'd be neat and useful.

Minor flaws aside, this butter cutter has really been worth the money for me. In fact, I'm going to buy another one (or maybe even two!) for when I start making infused butters again. Easy-spread garlic butter, anybody?

We bought the butter cutter about 3 months ago now. I am in love with this little gadget and plan to buy them as easy Christmas presents for my family next year. Each click is 1/4 tbsp so four clicks equals 1 tbsp. My 7 year old and 4 year old can easily use it (no more mess) and we've been able to relegate our butter dish to the china cabinet to save for special occasions. The nice thing is the butter pats are thin enough that even cold from the fridge butter melts quickly on hot toast. Cooking is easier now as well, 4 clicks = 1 tbsp of butter. Using this I quickly realized that I was frequently over estimating how large 1 tbsp of butter is. Our butter sticks last much longer now! I'm not a big fan of numerous kitchen gadgets that only do one job well, but without a doubt this is one of the best I've bought in awhile so I can forgive the fact that it only slices butter.

We've only had this a couple of days, but so far each and every cut has remained in the bottom of the cutter and you need to use your fingers (or something else) to release the butter. I'll try a different brand and size and see if that makes a difference.

The first stick (Pulgra...absolutely the best butter) we are using is the longer, more narrow stick. I did have to cut the block before putting it in the butter cutter but is was a precision cut and any of the longer sticks would have the same issue.

I did watch the video on the butter cutter web site and it shows in the demonstration the guy was jerking the cutter down as he was slicing it. I tried that and it did not work.

I have tried several of these butter cutters and this one is the best! Note that it uses the long cubes of butter, not the short fats ones. Land Of Lakes is the only brand we have here in Missoula Montana that are the correct size for this cutter. Half sticks are fine as you just insert two.

It is so easy to use but if your butter is hard, of course it's harder to press and cut the butter. I'm not that strong in my hands but I can work it fine. Let it sit out for a bit and as the butter softens, the easier it is to cut...don't let it sit out too long as you might have a mess on your hands....

I love that I can just click a pat into the skillet to cook an egg, or click to add to a recipe. So easy! I just love it! I would recommend to all my cooking friends!

Victorinox Cutlery 6-Inch Semi-Stiff Boning Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

Victorinox Cutlery 6-Inch Semi-Stiff Boning Knife, Black Fibrox HandleI've had this knife in my block for a while now, and I'm still impressed.

For a cheap knife, the stamped blade performs very well. The edge is razor sharp from the factory, and stays that way with minimal effort. Treat this knife well and you will be very happy.

That said, before you buy, give some thought to whether you want a straight or curved blade. Victorinox makes a similar knife with a straight blade, which may be preferable depending upon style.

Don't be put off by the lack of flashy "Three Rivet" styling. This knife is all business.

Would I like to have a $100 Shun boning knife? Sure who wouldn't, but at 1/5 the price this does the same job just as well. Seems to have held it's edge after a few uses and I'm sure will over time with regular steeling and occasional professional sharpening. Like all the Fibrox knives the handle is nicely textured and gives you a secure grip even when your hands get wet.

I'm very happy with this knife. It's super sharp and does an excellent job. The other knives in my kitchen are mostly J.A. Henckels, I'd always been kind of a snob about them -If not Henckels, then why bother? This knife proved me wrong.

The only thing that took a bit of getting used to was its weight. It's a very light knife. I wouldn't call it a con, it was just different from my experience in kitchen knives.

A great knife at a great price.

I am a meat cutter by trade. I needed this knife for work and found a respectable price at Amazon. I ordered it along with a Forschner 40533 8" butcher knife. Both arrived well packed and razor sharp within about 4 days. I would buy from this seller again.

I was a meat cutter for 15 years until 1993. I only cut an occassional item around the house now, but I found myself in need of a new boning knife and took a chance on this one. I had always used Case knives when I worked at the store, but this is a great knock-off at a third the price. The blade is just the right stiffness and the handle is made from the same material Case used all those years. I really can't tell the differnce between this and a case. I consider this to be a very good deal.

Alligator 11-1/4-Inch Dicer with Collector

Alligator 11-1/4-Inch Dicer with CollectorThe original and the best. I've tried all these dicing gadgets. The Alligator is the sturdiest, the easiest to clean and the sharpest. I bought the original before it had a receptacle to catch the diced produce. Although it was very effective, I did end up with pieces of dice all over the place sometimes, so when others came out with 'catchers', I tried them. None were really satisfactory. Some have little combs to get the food out from between the grid rows--that is a huge pain. Alligator has a thin shield that fits down over the grid. All you have to do is lift it up, rinse it and replace it. One competitor version I tried broke while I was dicing strawberries for heaven's sake, and another just wasn't sharp enough to do the job without extreme force. Another advantage to the Alligator is that the square grid accommodates more than those with a round grid. I was delighted when Alligator came out with this model and I happily switched back.

You need to slice your produce first unless you're trying to get more of a julienne effect, and very hard produce like beets probably isn't suitable for this approach, but the resulting dice for most things is lovely and professional looking--like having your very own sous chef at your side doing the prep. A vegetable soup made using this gadget looks stunning--all the carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, etc., exactly the same size. One would think you'd been to culinary school. It also does nice work on herbs. I have the mini-dicer for garlic as well and also am very pleased with it. Great kitchen time saver.

I have only been using mine for 6 months but I've already gotten enough use out of it that if it broke tomorrow, I'd still be completely satisfied. This machine saves an incredible amount of time in preparing food. Cleanup is also super easy. (If you get anything mashed in between the blades, a fork will generally take everything out just fine, but I find it easier just to stick a cucumber into the machine and let the newly-diced cucumber push out the stuff that had been mashed in there. Works every time.)

I don't think the collector is all that necessary (I used it with the collector the first time and haven't used it once since), so if I buy another I'll definitely get the cheaper one without the collector. The trick to not having everything fly all over the place is to bring the blade down onto the vegetable only part way, so that the vegetable is gripped into place by the blade, then hold the dicer *upside down* over a collecting bowl. Then finish closing the blade and the pieces will all fall into the collecting bowl.

Incidentally I also have the mini Alligator, which I find I never use. This larger one I use constantly and would recommend to anyone. But save yourself the ten bucks and consider getting the one without the collector. You'll save on storage space that way, too!

Edit to add: Three years later, and I still use this often (while the mini alligator continues to collect dust in my cabinets). Additional comments:

Works best for cucumbers and apples. Besides the obvious use on salads or mixed into couscous, they end up the perfect size for dog treats, if you are training and need some healthy rewards.

Works for onions, BUT not really a time saver. Anyone handy with a knife can dice onions at least as fast as you can dice them with this machine. However, the onion cubes end up stunningly perfect in size, so although your onion dicing goes no faster, it all ends up much prettier, if that is important to you. You can stack 3 or 4 layers of onion slices (rings) atop each other and do them all at once, IF your rings are not too thick.

Works on bell peppers if (and only if) you peel the skin off first, which is harder than it sounds. Also, dicing mushes up the bell peppers to a slight degree. Not enough to make them MUSHY, but they do end up slightly mushier than they were before going through the machine.

Carrots don't work-way too hard. Tomatoes don't work-way too soft.

My old Progressive food chopper finally started wearing out and the blades were bending from too much use so I thought I would try the Alligator because it had good reviews. It definitely does the job, but I do not find it as study as my old chopper. The collector is nice, but I wish it had a lid to store the chop items if you are not using them right away.

With both my old chopper and the Alligator, it is important to pre-slice your vegetables for an even, unified chop. I find, however, that even pre-slicing the onions, it is sometimes hard to get it to go through without leaving behind some residue. There are instances where you have to press pretty hard to get the onion to go through. I have used it for onions, peppers, carrots and garlic so far.

All in all, it is a nice slicer. Certainly a lot easier and more uniform than trying to chop by hand. My only recommendation is that all of these gadgets be washed by hand rather than the dishwasher because I believe the dishwasher dulls even the sharpest blades.

The dicer works well enough. As noted in other reviews, it works best if you slam it down with your fist rather than trying to press it down. I keep thinking I'll have to buy another one soon, but so far it has held together. Two caveats: 1) Make sure the collection shield is in place before smashing it down; 2) Tell your (very sweet and dear) wife not to try to clean the grid by pressing her fingers on the sharp side.

I used this tool for the first time last weekend. It does make perfect dices and it will take only one or 2 pieces of the whatever you're dicing unless it's very soft. But it's still faster than dicing it yourself. My soup looked great with all those perfectly diced onions, celery and carrots.

Rada Cutlery Super Parer Knife, Made in USA

Rada Cutlery Super Parer Knife, Made in USA, Aluminum HandleI've been needing a new paring knife and researched the reviews of several knives. I can't be more pleased with the quality of this knife. It is everything others have said: well balanced, super sharp, holds its edge. I also have to say that the black handled version is definitely the one to choose. I think it is the newer version and is an alternative to the brushed silver handle. Most reviewers criticized that handle for tarnishing. This handle does not have that problem, is solid (not plastic), and has a good texture for a secure grip. I would still not put it in the dishwasher but that is just to help protect the blade. My only complaint is regarding the size. It is a 'super parer' which means it is a little larger than a normal parer. Its longer blade makes it awkward to use as a parer but it is too short to be a full function utility knife. My recommendation would be to buy the regular parer and then a second knife for the specific other tasks you have. These knives offer great value for the money so don't bother trying to get one knife for two tasks.

We had been introduced to the Rada products by a friend and were so impressed with them that we ordered a number of different types of the knives as gifts to other friends and relatives. This purchase on Amazon was very easy and satisfactory in every way and the prices were the best we found anywhere.

I have used these knives for years. Great, sharp, lightweight-what else could you ask for. They make several different styles. Once you buy one, you will swear by them. Lifetime guarantee. I would suggest buying the simple knife sharpener as it works well with any knife.
