AnySharp Knife Sharpener

Anysharp Knife Sharpener, BlueI have never taken the time to write a review but this great product deserves all the attention it can get. AnySharp really lives up to its claims. I have owned every knife sharpener from a grinding wheel, oil stone, electric sharpeners diamond and otherwise, as well as an assortment of hand held devices which are all retired now that I have AnySharp. It is safe. It is fast. It can make a cheap super market knife cut like an expensive German knife. Yes the cheap knives may not hold the edge as long but with AnySharp you can restore the edge with a couple of strokes. I have restored old knives to service with this sharpener. It also reaches and sharpens the entire blade better than wheeled devices. I just wish I owned the company or at least a couple more sharpeners for the camping and fishing.

This worked very well on my Swiss Army Knife. It also worked very well on a cheap supermarket knife. It did not work well on my nicer Henckles or Wusthof knives. I think the Henckles and Wusthof knives are a harder steel and the Anysharp just couldn't bring them to their best sharpness. I will take these knives to a professional sharpener every year or two, so I am very familiar with the feeling they have when they are freshly sharpened. This did not bring them to that level of sharpness.

For softer knives, it worked great and I would recommend it. It did not harm my Hunckles or Wusthof knives.

Like many people who have reviewed this product, I too was looking for a sharpener that was easy to use, didn't cost a bundle and REALLY worked. I've tried many, and have wasted a lot of good money in my quest. Well, my search is finally over. After receiving this tiny device only a few days after I ordered it on Amazon, I went to work sharpening every dull knife I could find. First, let me say the suction really works well -there was no loosening at all of the sharpener from the counter. How did it sharpen? Unlike some of the vendor's claims, there was no way I could sharpen any knife with just a few strokes. It took between 10 and 15 strokes to sharpen the blades, but what I was left with were knives that were sharper than when I bought them. I have a big set of quality Gerber kitchen knives, and I was happy to see that the sharpener did not appear to scratch, mar, or damage the blades at all -something that I can't say for the other sharpeners I've tried. It worked as well on my less expensive knives too. My only gripe -and it's a minor one -is that there's a bit of cleanup involved, as fine shavings from the blade accumulate on the counter and in the sharpener itself. But if that's what it takes to sharpen my knives, that's a small price to pay. I'm interested to see how well this device works after I've used it 10 or 20 or 50 times. Will it continue to perform like new? If not, I won't complain. At such a low cost, I can always buy another.

I wasn't expecting much for 10 bucks but thought I'd give the Anysharp Knife Sharpener the benefit of the doubt and purchase one. While the suction cup mount does work extremely well, that's all I can say positively about this product. I am a knife collector and have many knives of quality steel as well as some conversation piece knives which are made of not so quality steel. I also own and use some classified as EDC knives and others I use outdoors for hunting and camping as well as other good and yes some cheap knives in my kitchen I use for food preparation. I use and am accomplished with various sharpening stones, a round sharpening steel, and an old fashion barber strop believing that this is the only proper way to sharpen my quality steel knives. I thought the Anysharp would fill a niche between my sharpening stones and my back pack hand sharpening tool for everyday touchups. I was wrong. At best this product will grind a blade to a "working edge" and not much more than that. I didn't try this product initially thank God with any of my quality knives. The five cheap knives I did sharpen with the Anysharp came out worse than when I used my backpack hand sharpener. This product literally destroys a good edge on most any knife and anyone who knows anything about blades knows that a quality serrated knife blade is not a V shaped edge and therefore cannot be properly sharpened with a product like this. If your need is simply for a sharpener for box cutter blades or garage or basement utility knives, this may suit your need but it can never be considered for any serious sharpening. Save the 10 bucks and put it towards a good flat stone or a quality sharpening system worthy of your good knives. I can't recommend this product to anyone and gave mine to my neighbor.

Well I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical about this little device given how tiny it was. But, given the price point, and the so-far perfect reviews, I decided to give it a whirl. I have several Global and Henckels knives that I received as gifts a couple of christmases ago, and sadly, as much as I cook and have a variety of kitchen devices at my disposal, I neglected to really maintain the knives themselves and they ended up to the point that they couldn't even adequately slice a ripe tomato.

My knives were in pretty bad shape I'll admit. I ended up having to pass the knives about 10-12 times each to really restore them to sharpness unlike the package's recommended 3-4. Nevertheless, they were restored to working order, even the serrated Henckels ones! That has always been the major obstacle to me picking any other sharpener is that most of them don't work well with serrated knives.

I can say with certainty that this puppy certainly performs well with Serrated knives just as well as my smooth-blade Global knives. Cleanup is minimal as well, the shavings carved off are minimal and a quick shake of the device will shake out any shavings that remain.

What really struck me about the device is how tiny it is! Seriously, this thing can easily fit in any kitchen drawer, even the messy ones! I'd wager it's about the size of a 1-cup Pyrex measuring cup, slightly smaller I'd say.

Overall, this is a solid product top to bottom. It really feels well constructed and so far the performance is really exemplary.
