I was a vendor in the restaurant business for 10 years and saw that most chefs preferred the Wusthof with the forged steel blade. My wife's hobby is gourmet cooking (much to my delight...I enjoy eating) but she has always used low end cutlery. I bought her this set as a gift. She is totally blown away with the performance of these knives. The right tool for the job makes the job easier with better results. They are used frequently but yet hold their edge. Just follow the manufacturer's direction's for using the steel for best performance. This set is a good value and has all the basic knives you need. The storage block is well made and has room to add knives to your set which we will be doing soon.
