I use this the chop my salad like I've seen in many salad bars in NYC. I've used it over a dozen times already and it looks like it will last a life time. The blade is very sharp so watch your fingers. There are two reasons I gave it a 4 star and not a 5. It's a little heavy, but again it's solid so that took about 1/4 star off. The other reason is that the blade are a little too close to each other. The salad gets stuck btwn the blades and it's a little annoying. Also if the blades were slightly further apart it would be easier to clean in between them. Again both of theses are not a big deal and for the price I got it for it was a great deal! I strongly recommend it.I purchaed this product because it had very good reviews. It turns out that the Fox Run Stainless Steel Mezzaluna is a great product. I am very pleased with the design and performance. The double blades makes it even more durable. Sometimes the lettuce gets in between the blades but it is very easy to scrap and place back into the bowl. It is a small inconvenience compared to paying eight bucks or more for a chopped salad at a restaurant. I give this product five stars.Good quality item, with solid construction! I bought it to make chopped salads (which I love!) and fresh herbs. Does a great job at a very reasonable price.Bamboo Cheese Tools Case and Cutting Board

I bought this set for me and my wife as we enjoy trying different meat and cheese spreads. The set looks very well made and sturdy. I've never owned a set of cheese knives, but these seem to be of nice quality. My only concern was the drawer underneath for the tools is very tight to open. So tight that the knob used to open the drawer came out. Nothing a little wood glue couldn't fix, but very tough nonetheless. I may end up sanding the underside of the board a slight amount in order to loosen the grip on the drawer in the future. Overall, a nice set.TL;DR
Pros
-Sturdy construction
-Nice knives
Cons
-Drawer hard to open

Love the elegant look. Like the long, narrow tines of the forks and like the base of the handles as they don't cut into your hand. Some flatware have a squared-off end and I find those cut into the palm of my hand. Very pleased.Read Best Reviews of Oneida 20-Piece Augusta Flatware Set Here
Despite this flatware set is 18/0 (not 18/10), looks great and it's sturdy, heavy enough and well finished. Good buy for the price ($17).I'm very pleased with this set. I was really suprised the first time I used this sharpener. It worked great on my Henckels International Classic knives. What really suprised me was that it only took several strokes to get the blades razor sharp. Previously, I used the steel to reset the blades, but could not get the sharp edge on them that this sharpener accomplished. I will continue to use the steel to reset the blades (I don't want to wear them down too much), but using this sharpener instead is really tempting.Read Best Reviews of J.A. Construction: Think of two wagon axles, where, on each axle, the wheels can slide and bang in to each other. Then position one axle close to the other such that all four "wheels" inter-lace. The first set of wheels are dark, the last white. There is no way to hone only on the final stage. It's an all or nothing deal. The blade must pass through all four inter-lacing discs. This thing is OK as a free gift with purchase but I wouldn't buy it. I had one very old Japanese steel blade parring knife. I used a steel to set the edge and ran it though. I got a decent edge with only modest effort. Next was an 8" Chinese "Titanium". Got an edge of sorts on that. Finally, a Chicago Cutlery 8" stainless steel chef's knife. Set the edge on a steel. Could not get an edge, the knife's poor grade steel was probably the cause. >>> Do not be tempted to run your better knives though this or they may be ruined. Not for Santoku style 15 degree blades.
Pros:
Sturdy footprint, good grip, and fairly idiot proof. Did sharpen several very old, abused blades that now can slice ginger paper thin.
Cons:
I don't expect this thing to hold up to more than a couple of dozen sharpening before the ceramic discs need replacing. Of course, you can not replace the discs because the body is glued. If the discs were replaceable, then I would have given this another star. Make this eco-friendly by include spare ceramic discs and I'll recommend for common knives for ease of use. Spend a few more bucks and get something with replaceable ceramic honing rods and with separate course or edge setter. Also, wheels can chatter and take chips out of some types of steel. I woulds, under no circumstance run a fine blade through this.
Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet 9-Piece High-Carbon Stainless-Steel Gourmet Steak Knives with B
About the knives: The look of these was dead on with our current set. The finish of the handles could have been better. They feel a bit light and the handles just aren't as smooth as the Professional S set. That being said -they weren't nearly as expensive. I posted pictures of the end serrations on the blade. Not sure how this will effect sharpening them in the future.
About the block:
It was lighter in color than the other knife block we have. The stock photo is a very good representation of the color of the product we received. I would have been more pleased if it matched exactly.
Overall:
My wife is very happy with them. They cut well and look pretty good. I only ask for a bit better quality feel and a slightly different block color.I bought a set of 4 of these knives about 7 years ago. I use them for all my slicing! I have small hands and they are very comfortable to use when cutting vegetables. They are just now showing signs of needing sharpening.. but they are used a few times everyday in my home. My next purchase will be a set with a block so they don't get bumped around in the silverware drawer.

Richardson Sheffield 5-Piece Gripi Knife Set with Wooden Block, Purple

Norpro Magnetic Lid Wand
If you're still using the ol hot dog tongs to pick up jar lids, you know what a pain it can be to just get one lid out of a pot of boiling water!
This is the PERFECT tool for the job! Worth every penny.
Picks up one lid everytime without fail.
No more sore fingers/hands from using tongs. No more droped/ruined lids!
Regardless if you do a little or alot of canning this little tool IS A MUST HAVE!
Wish I would have bought one of these little jems years ago!Anyone that cans needs this tool. I can reach into the scalding water with this wand and pick up a lid, then place it on the can. Wow, no burns. It is a lot better than trying to fish out a lid with a fork (my old way). It helps to keep everything sterile while canning.

The magnetic end came off the first time I used the wand. The company contacted me and replaced the wand. I will certainly try it the next time I can this summer. I appreciate Coast TrueValue for the replacement. This little gadget worked really well for me. I have used tongs in the past and this is much easier. Right out of the hot water onto the jar, real easy.this was very helpful when I do canning instead of using my fingers to get the lids out of hot water.Core Bamboo Matte Finish 3-Piece Modern Bamboo Cutlery Set, Banana
It also looks great in my picnic caddy and the colors are very pretty in person.
The only drawback is that sometimes the paint can be scratched.
The ones I bought from Amazon were great but a set I ordered from somewhere else had a tiny scratch on the side.
No big deal, I can probably paint over it. I would still buy them again.

LamsonSharp 3" x 5" Turner
* Flexible blade does indeed slide under things.
* Useful size for eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches.
* Dishwasher-safe-ish.
Bad points:
* Handle is made of a plastic that melts at surprisingly low temperatures--the side of a frying pan even at moderately low heat.
* Handle is riveted to blade quite loosely--there is play when the handle flexes. It feels like something is shaking loose, even though this is functionally irrelevant.
* Blade is cheaply made--it is not smooth, but slightly pitted, at the business end.Excellent turner, good size and flexibility. The only drawback is the material that the handle is made of. It will not sustain heat at all, so if it gets against the rim of a skillet or griddle it will melt promptly.

I live in a rural area and I couldn't find a decent turner in a store within a hundred miles, literally! All thick enough plastic to challenge a wheelchair from crossing, or silicone discs on handles. I went clear to another state to find a well-made turner the right size and made of real steel to no avail. This turner is everything it should be durable but flexible, thin bladed to avoid injuring eggs, big enough for omelettes and burgers, rust-free, and a pure delight. It was a gift for my chef-esque husband and I had to buy several more in two sizes to make him even happier.

I am surprised to see there are very few reviews of this item, especially because I consider this item to be one of my favorite tools in the kitchen. My husband and I both love to cook, and even a year later, we still constantly rave about how perfect this Lamson Turner is. I love items that are engineered with thoughtfulness, precision, and perfection, and this turner is one of them. The sharp edge is absolutely perfect for flipping eggs (my easy over eggs are now PERFECT!). I love the precise feeling you have when scooping from under the egg, to find that not one bit has stuck to the pan. The sharp edge is perfect for getting under the thinnest items --crepes, eggs, etc., ensuring, a perfect flip every time. It's also great for scrambled eggs, as you can use the sharp edge to chop up the eggs as thick or as small as you desire. We used this for fried rice in the wok, pancakes, fish, etc. The 3x5 size is perfect for cooking in a fry pan from 8" to 12", or even a wok, and the handle is the perfect length to ensure full control over flipping. We use a knife sharpener to keep the edge finely pointed and it works fantastically.Want LamsonSharp 3" x 5" Turner Discount?
I wanted a slightly larger than average turner for omelets, grilled cheese sandwiches (which I make on larger slices of bread) and my pancakes which I prefer much larger than the traditional "silver dollar" size. That is the only use I put this turner to, and it does quite well. The blade gets under the food fine, and has enough flex.I was fortunate enough not to have the issue with a loose handle that others had. The plastic does indeed look and feel cheap, so I knew going in that I would hand-wash it, and never leave it leaning against a hot surface good habits to start early with, so you don't fall into the mentality (so common amongst American consumers) of "everything ought to be fool-proof, therefore I am going to treat my property like a fool, and then complain when things break."
I wouldn't use this turner for burgers or on the grill. It doesn't seem appropriate for anything heavy, and I wouldn't press down on it either (you're not supposed to press down on burgers anyway).
This turner is holding up fine under the duties I have assigned, and I see no reason why it won't last a long time with proper care.
All in all it's a fine product, I am satisfied, but considering the apparent cheapness of the build, it out to be a few dollars less $9.99 for instance.
November 2011 update: The handle has indeed become loose, and it feels even cheaper as a result, but ti still works fine.

Wusthof Culinar 4-1/2-Inch Utility Knife
You will not regret spending money on this. There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.
The Wusthof Culinar line is an all stainless steel look, rather than a black handle. Although the picture and some descriptions want you to think this is a single piece knife, be advised that the hand is a separate piece of stainless steel molded onto the tang. I personally prefer the handle of the Grand Prix and Classic, because the grip is surer for me, but this is, to some extent, a matter of personal preference. This series "looks" more professional to some (like a Viking stove).
The Wusthof 4 ½ inch utility knife is a great all-around knife. This is the knife I use for the majority of my small chopping work (when I don't use a Chef's knife).

I am pretty frugal, and spending more than $50 on a single knife seems excessive to me. However, I was convinced because I went over to my friend's house (who is a chef) and he had a set of these knives. Used them and fell in love right away.I bought this one because it is a great size: I much prefer a smaller knife to the traditional chef's sized knife. Like other reviewers, I was concerned that the handle might be slippery when wet, but it is no problem whatsoever.
I did not buy mine from amazon, rather the behemoth online auction merchant. I paid $40 and do not regret it at all. I feel like it was well worth the price for a piece of very nice cutlery.

Apologies to Amazon, but I got this knife new from an on-line auction (for 30 bucks) and here's the story. When I received it it had a noticeable wire edge on one side of the blade. (if you don't know the term, this results from the knife being over sharpened on one side) I spent a good 15 minutes with my Smiths sharpening system (check that out too) and achieved a superb edge. Now, the knife feels great in my hand and is outrageously useful. Good as a paring knife, I use it to make salads. It slices tomatoes, onions, carrots and peppers flawlessly. Works fine as a boning knife, makes a great steak knife, It's beautifully balanced, nice to look at, and my experience with Wusthof leads me to believe that it will hold its edge and last a long long time.
If you have several knives, you'll still reach for this one often. If you only have a couple of good knives, this is one of the best to have.I purchased the Wusthof 4 1/2 inch utility knife as a gift for my son who loves to cook. He says, and I quote "My goodness, what a great little knife."
Paring Pro Surgical Stainless Steel Paring Knife
1) An obvious rule of thumb, two materials made of the same material will when rubbed together, will result in degradation of both though at different rates. THEREFORE, STEEL DULLS STEEL and the claim made by the rep and the television where an aluminum can was cut are both false, as aluminum has similar surface toughness to steel
2) If there is even any "surgical stainless steel" in this blade, it is very minimal. Surgical steel will not bend but only 1mm when a force is placed on the end due to heat treatment, it will break. This is not the case with the Pro-Paring knife, I can easily bend it to 1cm with minimal force.
3) I have experience in machining, when machining is done right you cannot notice the individual machine lines on the blade, You can only tell that it is machined from the partially dull appearance of cutting portion of the blade. With this blade, I can literally count the machine lines on it, indicating a low precision and accuracy. Since blades cut by providing a moderate force over a minuscule area, this blade's cutting ability is limited due to its inaccuracy and varying areas of the cross section of the blade.
4) Claim to be dishwasher safe, I just have to laugh at this one. There is clearly just enough elemental chromium in this metal to consider this "stainless", but by no means is it stainless at the high temperatures from within the dishwasher.
LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT BELIEVE THE COMMENT THAT SAYS IT IS SO GREAT THEY BOUGHT SOME FOR FRIENDS. No one in their right minds would purposely give this product to their friends unless they weren't their friends. I hate that companies do this so I wrote this entire essay to stop consumer spending on TV products that are complete engineering failures, while claiming to be an engineering innovation. It was an OK little knife. It wasnt very sharp. The quality was lacking a bit. But it was OK!!! I peeled potatoes with it. I like the size and handle. I will use it but there are better knives out there. But for the price you can get by with it.
