Mercer Cutlery Japanese-Style Pointed Sashimi Knife

Mercer Cutlery Japanese-Style Pointed Sashimi Knife, 12'I'm a sushi chef and thought I would give this knife a try. It arrived sharp as a razor blade and holds it's edge like other cutlery that I have spent 4 times as much on. For the money, you cant beat it. I will be trying other products made by Mercer.

I am pleased because the item was shipped quickly, performs like a sharp knife should and was priced right. I would recommend to anyone.

I just got this and have only used it one day. But the steel is definitely top notch so far, a little hard to clean I got the longer yanagiba, but a wet towel then paper towel does the trick. It floats through the fish I cut with no snags at all the fish barely moves. Normally my razor sharp santoku or deba will drag the fish with it.

The handle is not sealed I will probably polyurethane it for water resistance.

For 30 bucks this is a no brainer it's easily worth 70 to 80 and I'm a cheapskate

This does not have the bulk or the single bevel cutting edge of a "real" yanagi sushi knife. However, it is an excellent slicer and will give you the feel of a longer yanagiba if you haven't used one before. The thickness is probably close to a fugubiki. Either way, you can see if you dig a knife like this before taking the price plunge on the real deal.

Oneida Icarus 45-Piece Set, Service for 8

Oneida Icarus 45-Piece Set, Service for 8I bought the Icarus set at Bed Bath and Beyond after falling in love with my mom's couple year old set. While I love the looks and especially the weight of the pieces, I'm extremely disappointed.

First thing I noticed out of the box was like some other reports, some of the handles were actually sharp on the back edges. Secondly, on several pieces, the curve between the fork and handle and spoon and handle is very rough almost as rough as the inner portion of the fork tines. I figured that I could live with it since I loved the set otherwise.

Less than a month of use later (including being washed promptly in the dishwasher with regular non citrus/no bleach Cascade) I noticed that not only were the inner fork tines rusting, but several of the knife blades were as well. Closer inspection revealed that nearly all of the pieces with rough surface (spoons, knives and forks) had rust on the rough spots and half of the knives had a spot of rust on the handle in the exactly same spot just underneath the place/date of manufacture stamp.

So why can a 3 week old set be rusting when a couple of years old set look brand new? I realized that beyond the fact that the factory in China that produced my set in June of 08 apparently didn't know what "quality control" meant, the set my mom had was different from mine and others that have had problems.

I asked my mom to see if her set had a date stamp it didn't, but WAS stamped 18/10 Oneida China. I'd assumed (you know what they say about that) that mine was 18/10 and couldn't remember even noting if the box said 18/10 or not, but my set has no 18/10 stamp on the pieces and according to the Oneida US site, the Icarus is now 18/0. Oneida UK still lists the 18/10 Icarus.

While the 18/0 may account for the rust, the other issues are just related to absolutely no quality control and corners being cut in manufacturing. I'm really disappointed in Oneida they used to be a decent brand.

Much has been said about the lack of quality control in this pattern. Complaints have ranged from rough edges to rust. Such complaints weren't limited to Amazon's Web site. To Oneida's credit, the complaints are even more extensive on their Web site. They also stop after February of 2010.

I purchased two, 8 service sets of Icarus from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The complaints stress the cheap, Chinese manufacture, and the change from using the relatively more expensive 18-10 stainless to the cheaper 18-0. The two numbers refer to the percentage of other metals combined with steel. The first number refers to chromium, the second to nickel. People attribute the rust to the lack of nickel.

I have put my flatware through about 6 bouts in the dishwasher, using Finish Quantum tablets. There is no rust, anywhere. Properly made 18-0 shouldn't rust. I have been watching the fork tines especially like a hawk (and will keep on watching them). Written on the box and imprinted on the flatware itself is the country of origin: Vietnam, not China.

Update 16 December 2010: Flatware has been washed repeatedly with Finish Quantum and Cascade Complete tablets, and there is still no rust or discoloration.

The finish is a smooth polish, with no rough edges. No, it's not mirror smooth, but it's pretty good. The exception is the inside of the fork tines. They are merely ground smooth.

In short, it looks like Oneida had outsourcing trouble, and changed factories.

Here are some comments on the individual items:

Knives: These are a fairly standard size and weight, which makes them seem rather light compared to the forks and spoons. The serrations are more pronounced than any other set I saw. In other words, you could probably cut steak with these.

Large spoons: These are slightly wider than what they replaced, and much deeper. These are true soup spoons. They weigh more than double (99 grams) what they replaced (45 grams). These are thick, strong beasts that will not bend at all if you abuse them. Their ends may have trouble fitting small slots in a dishwasher's silverware basket.

Small spoons: These are a little narrower than what they replaced. They fit a large number of narrow containers. They may be narrow, but they are deep. They are also built solid. You can still scoop hard frozen ice cream with these.

Forks: Big, and massive, like the spoons. They have relatively short, thick tines. They, too, may have trouble fitting the smaller slots of the dishwasher silverware basket.

Salad forks: Petite versions of the dinner fork, but with even more shortened tines. They are still surprisingly heavy, and won't bend.

I like the simple lines and curves of this set, but you will never mistake this stuff for formal dinner ware. This is good quality, virtually indestructible, daily beater ware.

I purchased this flatware after an exhaustive search for new everyday stainless. Many of the reviews posted referred to the nice weight and simple styling of the design. All true. However, I should have paid more attention to the couple of reviews discussing rust spots. After the very first wash every grooved piece (forks and knives) were covered in ugly orange rust spots. These were washed in a two year old Fisher & Paykel dishwasher with powder detergent arranged as specified in the manufacturer's care instructions. I spent over an hour using stainless polish to try to remove the spots (it is impossible to remove them completely) and then rewashed only to have the exact same result. These went back pronto! It was a real disappointment from a brand like Oneida. It is clear that there was a defect in the manufacturing process.

My fiance and I had a hard time looking for flatware that we both liked. We wanted something simple, elegant, and classic. That's what we found with the Oneida Icarus pattern.

This pattern goes with everything. Given this is our first complete set of flatware, we wanted something that would go with everything. In the future, we can buy a set with more design or one that we want specifically for a table setting (holidays, etc.)

The flatware is a bit larger and heavier than most other sets; it doesn't feel cheap or bendable. This pattern is available at a number of retailers so I would suggest taking a trip to the store to hold, feel, and examine this flatware.

Dishwasher safe, though we've had some problems with spotting but that is probably due to the dishwasher we have. No tarnishing or other marks to speak of.

The set we received as a gift was not from Amazon. Ours included a five piece bonus serving set of two large serving spoons, one large slotted serving spoon, a large serving fork, and a sugar spoon. I do not believe this one contains the same it would be a good idea to contact Amazon or Macy's to find out.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this set based upon its quality and price. It's your own decision whether or not you like the pattern. :)

I am reviewing these because I was SHOCKED by the one-star reviews. I could see some 4-stars (I will address the rust issue) but there is some real vitriol here that I don't think is warranted.

I bought this set about 1.5 years ago. It is beautiful and washes wonderfully without rust spots. I should note that they will get rust spots (like all other stainless steel utensils and pots and pans and knives) if you use lemon detergent, use too much detergent, and/or pack the silver too tightly. I try to only pack 2-3 pieces per compartment and haven't gotten rust spots. I also like to use the "heated" drying cycle on the dishwasher and it seems to work. Also, don't wash them in a "heavy duty" cycle.

I love the design, it's modern, no hard edges (I agree with the other poster, she MUST have gotten fakes), and it's symmetrical (I'm a lefty, so "righty" (anything unsymmetrical) utensils are awkward). I've received compliments from multiple guests because they feel quite expensive (heavier utensils are a sign of quality--go to a diner if you want paperweight forks). The handles themselves are well-balanced and easy to use if you hold a fork properly. If they fall off of your plate, I suggest re-positioning them closer to the center of the plate.

Cuisine de France 15-Piece Cutlery Set

Cuisine de France 15-Piece Cutlery SetOk, so I don't have this specific block. The block that I have is still cuisine de france but I think I have more knives with mine. These knives are wonderful. It's a strong, sharp blade. The steak knives are serated. The bread knife is serated, but the rest of them are not. We've used ours in the dishwasher ever since we got them (like 5 years ago or longer) and it hasn't harmed them in any way, they still look like new. No rust spots. I would recommend this set to anyone.

I bought this since my roommates and I (three other guys) needed a set of knives and this was amongst the cheapest. The serrated knives are great, all the others are SUPER DULL, as in probably never sharpened before dull. Once you get passed that though, it's a great set...we would just sharpen each knife manually before we used it.

Pros:

-just like the knife rack that grandma had in her house

-makes an apartment with 4 guys look classier (kind of?)

-Comes with everything you could need

-bunch of steak knives

-wood block is nice

Cons:

-not a single one of the non-serrated blades is sharp

-I'm still not sure how to handle a hand sharper

Overall, I'm ok with the purchase since I wasn't about to spend $200 on a set. If I were to do it again, I'd probably just buy one or two nice knives and get a set of steak knives from IKEA (although I've used a steak knife maybe once).

This 15 piece set is great. Very sharp knifes love them. I added two pics above to show that a couple of things are different than the pic Amazon has uploaded.

1. The sharpener does not have silver parts on the handles. So no more moveable parts as a previous reviewer mentioned.

2. The scissors have a little red on them.

3. The name brand added to the block is now a subtle clear embossment (not bold and black.)

Don't throw away the box that the set comes in until you either read or remove the portion on the lid that describes how to use the "Sharpening Steel." If anyone needs the instructions. I could add them here.

Pro:

* Knives so Sharp

* Not made in China like so many of the other sets.

* Love having the scissor so handy to cut open a bag of frozen vegetable, etc.

I almost didn't buy this because of the earlier poor reviews, but I know from my earlier Cuisine de France steak knife purchase how sharp this set should be. So I felt compelled to spend time to leave a review so that Amazon will continue to sell exceptional products as this one. And I don't want prospective knife set buyers to be afraid to purchase Cuisine de France Cutlery Set. I would buy this set again as a gift too.

Here's the pros:

These are fairly heavy knives, balanced, and made not to come apart, which is good for the price. The block is nice and I really do like the steak knives and the bread knife, which are all serrated (although my BF was complaining that the steak knives are dull, I've used them several times and didn't see that as an issue), but the other items in the set have issues.

Cons:

The scissors have very small finger holes in the handles which means, depending on the size of your hands, you may be able to fit 2 fingers in them without getting stuck. They are nice and sharp though and cut well, just not comfortable to use.

The sharpening steel, the handle is loose, and you can only tighten it so far as it seems stripped. But it keeps loosening back up.

The smooth edge knives are dull, like trying to cut something with a butter knife or the edge of a spoon. When I first got these, I tried using my original sharpener that always worked well on my old knives, and I also used the sharpening steel that came with these, and neither made a difference. I was trying to slice celery and I had to push down on the back of the blade to get it to cut through it. That just shouldn't happen. So, this morning, having a little more time, I spent no less than 10 minutes sharpening each non-serrated knife, using celery as my test and comparing them to my old non-serated knives (not even freshly sharpened, that have been in the dishwasher multiple times). After 10 minutes of sharpening these, these STILL can't cut through a piece of celery! And these have NEVER gone through the dishwasher! It's not tough celery, as my old knives made short work of it! I don't know why you can't sharpen these things, it's beyond me? Never seen anything like it. Since a friend of ours knows a guy who owns a store that sharpens knives (we will get a substantial discount), that's our next attempt, but I don't hold much hope. Either way, you should NOT have to take brand new knives to be professionally sharpened. There's something wrong there. But aside from that, they are solid knives for the price, as long as you don't need sharp knives, you'll be good. I'm thinking the person who owned a set of this brand of knife, whose review I based my purchase on, may have had a higher quality set, as most manufacturers do have different quality items, either that, or she's never had a sharp knife so these seem OK to her? I'm less than impressed, and at this point, I REALLY wish I could return these and try a different set from a different maker. Can't do too much worse than these, IMO...

Got them back from the professional shapener and although they are sharper, they still are not as sharp as my old ones, so please, even professional sharpening can't get these things sharp, do NOT waste your money...

And, now for the kicker, I've had these only 2 months and one of the knives is beginning to rust. None have gone through the dishwasher, although I don't know why I'm worried about it with a product of this quality.

Since we had disposed of the packaging and missed Amazon's return window, I contacted the maker. They told me they would gladly replace them, if I paid to ship them back. It's going to cost at least half the purchase price to ship them back, and then what will they send me, another set of dull knives that will not sharpen? So, if you do buy these, and aren't happy with them, return them through Amazon immediately...

I bought this set from Bed Bath and Beyond. Right off the bat the set was great, and I loved the variety of knives that came with it. My only complaints are that the knives go dull way too quickly, and take WAY too long to sharpen. I don't have time to sit for 10 minutes per knife every two weeks. Second, I lost the kitchen shears, which I loved, and cannot find another pair of this brand sold separately. My third, and final complaint, I think the Santoku knife could be just a little longer. Other than that, the set is great and does the job.

Mr. Bar-B-Q 18-Piece Stainless-Steel Grill Tool Set

Mr. Bar-B-Q 18-Piece Stainless-Steel Grill Tool SetIn theory this is a nice set, and I like all of the different tools -but I bought this as a gift, and I'm going to return it. It just looks too cheap. The wooden handles are chipped in some places, there's almost no finish on them, and the plastic case is really flimsy and cheap looking. Perhaps if I was buying them for myself I wouldn't mind, but I'd be embarrassed to give this as a gift.

The plus about this set is the sheer number of things you get. I especially liked the idea of getting a set of knives with this....

The minus is just about everything else. The case is cheap shoddy plastic. The large tools are all TOO LARGE and bulky, I found them to be rather unwieldy. The worst thing about them, believe it or not, is that the rubber grips STINK to high heaven. They must off-gas like crazy or something because I found it to be seriously offensive (it's a very chemical sort of odor, I ended up cutting the rubber off from the most-used tools and throwing it out). The basting brush is COMPLETELY USELESS the bristles are made from a plastic-based material, so guess what happens when you try to baste a hot piece of meat? They melt, if you're lucky they just melt together and not right into your piece of chicken...This probably matches the smelly, off-gasing rubber gribs in terms of stupidity...Anyway, I would recomend getting some other tools, they are probably more expensive for a reason..

Shun DMS235 2-Piece Classic Meat Set of Knives

Shun DMS235 2-Piece Classic Meat Set of KnivesFirst, I've come to love Shun knives as the best value for money in higher end cutlery. These two knives are an interesting pairing. The cleaver is a beast. The 10" hollow ground is a highly flexible razor. As a note, neither look like the Damascus steel of other Shun's .

Classic cleaver:

1. I've not imagined much need for the big knife. I was wrong. I first used it to whack through a whole chicken, oriental style. It did the job perfectly.

2. In the process of cutting the chicken, I had bok choy to thin chop. I used this big boy and discovered that it is also the best veggie chop knife I have. The control and speed of the knife in rocking mode is superior to the 2 high end metzaluna's I had become used to.

3. The knife is heavy and solid. Sharpening to surgical edge is easy maintenance.

10" hollow ground salmon/ham knife:

1. The sharpest and smoothest thin cutter I've ever seen.

2. Highly flexible blade enables straight cuts. The knife is incredibly thin.

3. The best sushi/sashimi knife I've ever used.

Great knives. Cleaver is great for breaking down chickens, etc. Slicer is exceptional on filleting salmon. Highly recommend, knives have superb balance. Would buy again.

I can not believe how much I got these for in the Gold Box. I'd just told my husband I wanted a cleaver and the next day this appears. They're sharp, of course, and the cleaver has some weight to it. My only real issue is one of storage. I honestly have not used the salmon knife as I bought this set just for the cleaver and it cost less than just the cleaver alone.

Joseph Joseph Index Plus, Chopping System

Joseph Joseph Index Plus, Chopping SystemSo, I saw this at a local, high-end store and thought it was such a practical item and would eliminate all the clutter in my cabinets of cutting boards and knives. I of course bought it at amazon instead of the high-priced store. I haven't returned it yet, but am pretty close to deciding it needs to be done. The knives are already getting very dull after a little over a month and I don't use them all that often. The boards are not very forgiving and are wearing way faster than my other "cheapy" cutting boards that I got rid of. I'm not sure I would reccomend this one. Wish I could though. The design is what really drew me in.

Firstly I must say that I like the design from Joseph Joseph allot, I bought a bunch of things from them lately, bowls, utensils etc. and the look of these items are great, the colors and shape makes them very stylish in the kitchen, what's missing however is the quality especially when considering what you pay for these things.

So what about the Index Plus Chopping System, well again it looks great with the stand and the nice colors on the boards and matching knives, but the boards are quit small and I find them very slippery. I would have wanted a rougher surface on at least on side so that they don't slide when I use them. The knives are pretty decent but I prefer my Victorinox kitchen knives that I have used for years, they have stayed very sharp with proper care and the grip on those knives are much better. I do like that Joseph Joseph have matched each chopping board to a specific knife, my wife just loves that because she find all my other knives to confusing so if you want a simple way of choosing the best knife for the job this chopping system is for you.

Something that I also find a bit odd is that there is one chopping board for vegetables, one for fish, one for meat and then one for cooked food. I would have wanted one for chicken instead of one for cooked food, for me that would have made more sense, of coarse I can always use the white board for chicken if I want but it was one of those minor details that annoy me.

So if space is limited and you want a simple system for boards and knives then this is a great deal, but if you have space you're better of buying individual knives and a large wooden chopping board.

We bought this from local store ($120) because it looked stylish and "felt" durable. After a few uses, we noticed rust spots on the knives. In addition, there are nothing on bottom of cutting board so they are prone to sliding around on counter. I cannot recommend this to the serious chef or someone who would use it everyday.

The product itself is a little smaller than I thought it would be. I'm hoping that this will help the anti chefs in my house with food prep. we will see. also dont know how to clean holder seems a little unsanitary. put an improperly washed meat board away, it drains to the bottom and has now contaminated your vegetable board.

Wusthof Classic 2-Piece Asian Santoku and Paring Knife Set

Wusthof Classic 2-Piece Asian Santoku and Paring Knife SetThese Santoku knives have the fantastic Kullenschliff, also called the Granton, edge for extremely finely-honed thin slicing. They slice quickly into whatever width you want, from slivers to less thin pieces, with only a modicum of practice. The sharp flat cutting edge, safely lower than the handle, makes for an easy, comfortable grip. These knives have multiple uses--not just slicing for Asian-style food, nor, for that matter, just for thin slicing. One can chop, dice, or slice safely and quickly with these finely made instruments. I have a large collection of Wusthof knives, but this style is one of my favorites and most frequently used.

I guess I write a lot of enthusiastic reviews, but I generally feel motivated by fine products and these knives are among them.

I have a set of the Classic knives, but the one I use the most is the santoku chef's knife. I just prefer it to the "normal" chef's knives with the "French curve." So when this set popped up in my Gold Box, I jumped!

They feel sturdy but not heavy in the hand, and the hollows along the edge really do release the food more easily than the straight-edged ones. The paring knife is more cute than anything else. The santoku shape really doesn't add to its functionality, although it is a nice little paring knife.

Keep this set close at-hand, because you'll find yourself reaching for them all the time, as I do.

I've had this set for about 5 months now and it is WONDERFUL. Great combo of top quality knives. They are very well balanced. The Santoku can be used to cut anything from raw chicken to veggies and will cut as thin as you can bring yourself to try! The paring knife is a good compliment for smaller items.

Overall, this is a GREAT all purpose starter set. I would recommend getting some sort of storage for it though. I am about to order the 10 piece classic set because I love these so much!.

I have a Henkel's 5 star 8" santoku knife that I really love and wanted to get something just like it for my parents for Christmas, since they have mostly cheap and dull knives. I always thought that Wusthof had comparable quality, and since the regular price of these knives were much more than I paid for my Henkel's, I figured these would be even better than what I have. I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a knife. These Wusthofs are designed to be more lightweight. But my longer and much heavier 8" Henkel's santoku just feels more substantial, easier to use, and more versatile than these Wusthofs.

Also, I noticed that brand new, right out of the box, the Henkel's 5 star is super sharp and will slice anything that barely touches its edge. It cut so effortlessly. And that impressed me. But these Wusthof knives were not nearly as sharp coming out of the box. They had a holder set on the blade for safety, but it seemed unnecessary since it would take some effort to cut your fingers on the blade.

Again, if you're looking for lightweight this is probably the knife for you. But having used both this and the Henkel's 5 star 8" version, my preference is the heavier, sharper, and longer Henkel's 5 star.

Global 12 in. Yanagi Sashimi - Sushi Knife G-14

Global 12 in. Yanagi Sashimi - Sushi Knife G-14This is more of a "yanagi style" knife than a true yanagi, but if you're even considering the Global then you're probably not a master sushi chef with the 50 years worth of experience you'd need to notice the difference. Pull it through your smaller cuts of meat and you'll get nice, clean slices that can be difficult to achieve with shorter, thicker, double beveled knives, and there's nothing wrong with that. Nothing amazing, but it's a good knife for the price and it's honestly a little better balanced than most of your insanely expensive handcrafted high carbon yanagi.

Oneida Paul Revere 6-Piece Progress Flatware Set

Oneida Paul Revere 6-Piece Progress Flatware SetI just love this set. I feel each piece is the perfect size!

I love the metal feeding spoon. It is just right for baby's mouth and can be used effectively to scoop up mush from the chin.

If you are providing a Montessori environment at home the toddler fork and spoon are perfect for little hands.

The larger 'junior' set will be about right for a 3-4 year old.

I received this set as a gift from my mother-in-law when my older son turned 1. I honestly didn't think much of it at the time, other than the set was cute. 2 years, and another baby later, and these pieces are the most used flatware in my house. They have held up amazingly well to countless dishwashings, unlike the other plastic kids' cutlery we have cycled through. The larger fork and knife are the perfect size for my 3 year old, and the smaller fork and knife are the perfect size for my 20 month old. I like that the fork tines are sharp enough to stab food because so many plastic forks are not, and I've yet to meet a toddler that can successfully scoop up anything with a fork. I love that these are nice and look just like mommy and daddy's fork and spoon because it encourages my kids to use their utensils and makes my 3 year old feel grown-up. I'll admit, the knife is not all that useful for the kids, but at my mother-in-law's suggestion, I use it as a butter knife and it fits perfectly on the butter dish. I use the small spoon with a long handle to eat ice cream (because it makes my tiny portions last longer!), and it's also what I give my boys to eat their yogurt with (smaller spoon means smaller bites which means less yogurt spilling!). Of course, it was also great when my boys were babies and I was spoon feeding them.

The set is very attractive, and has not rusted or tarnished in any way, and I dish wash the forks and spoons EVERY DAY...it is as high quality as any regular sized oneida flatware set. This is my go-to baby gift now...looks like my mother-in-law knew what she was doing all along! :)

I have been using a Chinese kitchen knife for most cutting, I like the wide flat blade that I can pick up little pieces when finish chopping but the knife gets a little heavy after a while. I saw this Santoku Japanese style knife in Target Store, the packaging had the handle sticking out. When I put my hand on it, I like the weight and balance of the blade and the handle seemed comfortable but it cost $37.95, more than what I want to pay for a kitchen knife. Then I found this exact knife on Amazon for $17.98, I ordered it immediately.

The knife arrived in five days in a huge Amazon box, 14x20 inches,(come on Amazon guys!). When I first used it, it was not as sharp as I would like it, after I pulled it through my wheel knife sharpener ten times, it was as sharp as any knifes in my collection. I love this knife, it is all about weight and balance and the angle of the handle. I have small Asian hands and it works well for me. I treat all my knifes with respect, never wash knifes in auto dish washer, I sharpen my knifes after every use. My wife is happy.

This knife arrived just as decribed and works really good. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great addition to their kitchen.

Got this knife from my brother in-law for birth day gift and it is a very nice addition to my cutlery collation vary sharp and keeps an edge for a long time. Even know the knife is made in china it has the high standards that you would aspect from the Henckels line up and if it was manufactured anywhere else it would cost allot more. It is not dishwasher friendly and needs to be hand washed

We have a half dozen Henckels knives and have been very happy UNTIL NOW. This knife is clearly of an inferior line in that the steel had inclusions in it which rusted the first time I washed it. Yes, there were rust spots on the the stainless steel blade. Poor quality control for this made in China version from the classic German knife company. Surprisingly customer support was disappointing as well. Avoid this line of knives.

The Pampered Chef Limited Edition Cheese Knife (No Longer in Catalog)

The Pampered Chef Limited Edition Cheese KnifeI bought this with the expectation that it would be as cool as all the other Pampered Chef products. The knife function works fine for thicker slices, but the thin slicer is on the wrong side of the blade! I can't use it without crossing my arms over each other, holding the knife awkwardly backwards, or pulling the slicer toward myself which is also very awkward. Nobody in my family is left handed so this was a complete waste of money.

It was what my daughter was looking for as I have one already...and now we are looking for a Pampered Chef Coarse Grater.

It handles well and is diswasher safe.

Except for my husband, this is our family of ten's favorite cheese cutting implement. (He likes his cheese thick, so uses a different knife). We have had ours for about ten years and, although the sheath has long since cracked and been discarded, the knife itself is still sharp and used almost daily. When I learned this knife was discontinued from Pampered Chef, I started buying them up when I could find them. Love it!

I have bought most of my knifes from Pampered Chef, until now. This knife is has s very comfortable feel and cuts wonderfully and is easy to clean.

I purchased this cheese knife with medium expectations, since it wasn't that expensive, but have loved my Pampered CHef products in the past. I am very happy with the knife. It easily slices through all different types of cheeses, and my parents, cheese "experts", commented how much they liked the knife as well when they tried it. An excellent value, would recommend to anyone.

The Edgemaker Knife Sharpener

The Edgemaker Knife SharpenerI have had an Edge maker knife sharpener for years. You don't have to change any blades, just turn the rods when they get well used. I recently lost mine and was devastated. So I ordered another one and am very, very happy. Thanks for having this available.

i have used these sharpeners for years, great for keeping a good edge on kitchen knives,

i always use before knife gets completely dull so all you need is to draw the knife thru a few times. great product.

Great sharpeners. Use these alot because a meatcutter and taxidermist need sharp knives all the time. So simple to use and if you don't let knives get overly dull, you'll be able to get knives razor sharp in just 5 or 6 strokes. Have given them to all the kids and friends as gifts and they love them in the kitchen !!

purchased one of these at a gun show, many years ago. been looking for another for quite some time, when i found this on amazon. price is right and the item works. it's also very easy to use. purchased as gifts and spare ones for me. easiest sharpener to use, without having to plug it in...

I bought this because of a recommendation in a knife ad on amazon, and read the reviews of it which seemed to praise it. The price is "fair", but though I can't try it on a brand new pair of henckel pro s knives I got on amazon (very nice I might say), I tried it on an old carbon steel paring knife I still had. Spent some time on it with this sharpener, and I sure couldn't tell the difference. Still seemed rather dull, but maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Just my two cents worth.......

Totally Bamboo Martinique, Bamboo Cutting Board

Totally Bamboo Martinique, Bamboo Cutting BoardUnder $20? Really? This is one beautiful and functional board. Its side planked so the hardest part of the bamboo is facing outward. I only hope the white stripes are made of the same bamboo so that it will hold together and wear evenly. I have a lot of Japanese knives and I have to sharpen them all the time; I'm hoping that I'll have to sharpen them a little less often. All in all, a terrific buy.

Loving it. The purchase was easy. The deliver was prompt. The board is thick and sturdy. Hoping it doesn't break where the brown line is.

Fox Run Grapefruit Spoon, Set of 2

Fox Run Grapefruit Spoon, Set of 2The spoon is a tiny bit flexible but so far has gotten several jobs done well, including scraping out winter squashes.

I love the shape of these spoons, and the serrated edges make it much easier to eat my morning grapefruit. I didn't give it five stars because I would prefer a little heavier metal, but for the price it's still a great product. I intend to order another set.

These spoons are inexpensive but not cheaply made. They are a great width for entering great fruit sections and have just enough serration to make the job easy. I'm used to having to precut the sections with a knife, but with these spoons that isn't necessary.

Totally Bamboo Dominica Cutting Board, 12.5-Inch

Totally Bamboo Dominica Cutting Board, 12.5-InchI have been wanting to try out a bamboo cutting board for some time and when I saw this one, I was sold!!! I have not been disappointed one bit with my purchase. I love that it is reversible which gives me both a cutting and carving board. It's like getting two boards for the price of one. The board not only looks great, which I also use as a cheese platter because it looks so attractive, but it is sturdy and cleans up easily. The size of the board is perfect for everyday use for cutting fruit and vegetables, as well as for special occasions when you need something large for trimming a roast. We just used it for our 10 pound lamb roast at Easter and the drainage trough around the edge worked great to keep the juices from flowing all over my counter. I am pleasantly surprised at how sturdy this board is and it doesn't show any cut marks from knives. It also doesn't dull my knives. If, and when, this board wears out, I will definitely buy another one just like it.

Love the look of this board, very sleek and cool. It's durable and easy on my knives. A little heavy, but helps it to stay in place and not swivel around while you're cutting on it. I also like the fact that it's earth friendly! Great gift or staple to have in the house.

I am huge into juicing lately. I needed something large to cut fresh fruits and veggies on. I really like the ridged border so the juice from cutting the fruits doesn't drip all over my counters. It is large enough for me to cut and create a pile of items to throw into my juicer. The wood grain texture of the bamboo is beautiful. It sits well on my counter without being a distraction to the décor of my kitchen. It has a nice oil rubbed texture for a quick and easy clean. I was very impressed with this product and would recommend it to everyone.

I received this board as a gift and absolutely love it. No need to even find a place to store it it looks lovely just sitting out on my counter. I use it all the time. Gorgeous. It cleans really nicely too with just a wipe down with warm water and a little soap. Definitely recommend!

I was so excited to receive my new cutting board in the mail. I was looking for something that was functional and slim for easy storage as well as something that looked good. When I first opened the box, I immediately loved the look and feel of the board. I liked how it was double sided for versatility and how there was almost a crumb tray on the border on one side. I also liked how it was so slim that it could easily fit in my side narrow cabinet.

I have had the board for a couple of weeks now and wanted to wait to write my review until I used it a few times. At first, I was chopped onions and was a little scared about how much my brand new sharp knife bounced off of the board. After I got used it to it, though,I came to actually really enjoy that. It made chopping move along a lot faster and efficiently.

The second thing I liked about it is that my knife didn't dig into the board and make obvious marks/dents. It just lightly scraped the board and you cannot even see the indentations unless you look closely.

I also enjoyed the fact that after washing it several times, you do not get that woody smell you get when you use a regular wood cutting board. Which means, my food sitting on it or being chopped on it is staying fresh!

The only downside I have is that I do wish it was on some feet so that it could be elevated a little bit off the counter. while I liked that it didn't slip around, I felt that I was at an awkward angle chopping because of the level. That could just be me and the height of my counters, but that was my only complaint!

Malibu 4-Inch Blade Paring, 5-1/2-Inch Blade Santoku Knives and Peeler in White Ceramic Zro2 Blade,

Malibu 4-Inch Blade Paring, 5-1/2-Inch Blade Santoku Knives and Peeler in White Ceramic Zro2 Blade, Blue Color ABS Softgrip HandleI didn't expect much from this set because of the deep "discount" (I think I paid 30 something). Because it was so cheap, I thought the retail price might be a figment of the imagination (or wishful thinking) on the part of the seller. And after using the knives, I really can't imagine anyone paying $100 for this junk. I had low expectations and the knives failed to even meet these.

After a short couple days of light use the knives already had started to feel dull, after a week the edges had multiple chips. I don't have high hopes that these knives will useful for much longer than a few months. Please understand that I have followed all care instructions (hand washing, no cutting hard foods, storing separately, etc.) and they are still not holding up.

Save your money. I could have bought one good knife, instead of this set of junk, for the same price. Oh well, live and learn. Now you don't have to make the same mistake.

Super sharp! Love the color. You have to be really careful slicing things but it works really well. As far as I know, if you follow the instructions it doesn't break/chip, differences in quality with ceramic knives has to do with sharpness, not how brittle it is. Love my set, definitely would buy as a great housewarming gift.

Paderno World Cuisine 17 3/4" Magnetic Knife Rack

Paderno World Cuisine 17 3/4' Magnetic Knife RackThe rack is excellent; however, the bolts that come with it were terribly cheap and unusable, and the screws were the wrong size, so I used my own. The rack itself is great!
