Japanese Stainless Steel Paring Knife with Scabbard- Brown Handle

Japanese Stainless Steel Paring Knife with Scabbard- Brown HandleI actually have this exact knifegreat little tool, owned it for 15 yearsthe sheeth finally split ( it's wood ) and wanted another as well as one for a gift. Totally recommend the knife, but watch out for the seller. Tried to order this item from M.V. Trading Co. listed price was $4.99 + .65 cents shipping. A week after I ordered two of them they cancelled the order with no explanationwhen I came back to see if it was out of stock, I noticed that they had almost doubled the price.

Well, I was skeptical because the price was so low, but this is a real knife.

Pros:

+ Blade incredibly sharp

+ Sheath is solid wood

+ Sheath fits blade like a glove

+ Knife is light weight

Cons:

Handle is slightly rough

Handle is not solid wood? (wood fibre?)

Super-light handle throws off balance

The strong point of this knife is its blade. It's made in japan and razor sharp. This knife is at least 10x as sharp as any knives you would find at your local department store even if you paid double the price. The combination of sharpness and light weight makes this knife incredibly dangerous, and coincidentally, really effective at its intended function.

So, in the end, even though this knife is not perfect, it has quality where it counts, and the price is amazing. It is easily five stars at this price, and would make a great little gift for someone who likes to snack on fruit or vegetables, as long as their dexterity is good =)

Normally don't do reviews, but for this i will. This knife is great. Got it for around $9 and it trumps any knife i currently have. I use it for some average stuff like cutting meat and it just glides through. I mainly bought it to get back in to sushi making and i have no doubt that this knife will do a great job cutting through that sticky rice.

OK.

This knife has a lot of pluses going for it. It looks great, it's pretty sharp out of the box, it holds a pretty good edge. It only has a couple of minuses...the varnish on the wood handle and scabbard wears away pretty rapidly and, so, you must make it a point of not getting either very wet, otherwise you may completely ruin either; the thumb rest on the scabbard isn't the most securely attached thing on the planet and, finally, once the edge goes it takes a fair amount of work to get it back to like-new-sharpness.

That all said, I like it. A lot. Especially for
