Chroma Haiku 10-Inch Carving knife
First off, the price paid for this knife was $44 and in the world of "You get what you pay for" I would not have even considered making this purchase; I got it anyway.
The balance of the knife is very blade heavy. Overall it is a light knife, but it is not well balanced and is tiresome after a long day. The handle is extremely light and lacks enough weight to balance the knife. I therefore assume this is only a half tang design.
The fit and finish on this blade is bad. The handle is oversized and bulky. Semi-ambidextrious handle favoring the left hand slightly more. (I'm right handed)
The blade was very dull out of the box.
The blade is stamped Made In Japan so I assume this is true (although there is a Chroma Haiku China which may be a knockoff?) The blade shape is good, slender and food doesn't stick to it; excellent texture. The blade thickness is a bit wide, but a good trade off given the superior blade stiffness. The soft metal is easy to sharpen and frequent sharpening is required.
It arrived 1 day early and have been satisfied with it so far. I am definitely going to replace this one with another I have my eye on once it goes on sale.~$200 range.
The Haiku is not up to par to do delicate work that requires feeling the blade. However, I find that for $44 it is good insurance for your nice gear. I use it as a eveyday beater knife that i can throw around the kitchen and not worry about rust or chips on the blade.
If you are a hobby cook this may work for you. Definitely not professional caliber.
2 stars.
***UPDATE***
The furrle has come loose and mekugi *sp? (wooden pin in the furrle) has fallen out. The plastic furrele could be repaired with some epoxy... the mekugi has no real function at 3mm in length. The handle is still firmly attached to the blade and this is mostly a cosmetic issue. None the less this is still a mediocre purchase at best and probably wouldn't recommend this line to anyone especially for $90. Take that kind of money and buy a Fujiwara and never look back!
Good Luck!
Chicago Cutlery 8-Piece Wine and Cheese Knife Set
The box and cutting board that came with the knives are a bit cheap, but for $15, who can complain? This is a quality product. Nice wood, well made, good quality in all the pieces. Cutting board a little small, but such nice quality for the price still a good buy. Gave it as a gift without hesitation because quality was so high. Recipient loved it. Buying a second one for another gift.

Wusthof 9639 Culinar 4-Piece Steak Knife Set
Wusthof's classic knife design has handles of black polypropylene riveted to the tang with three stainless steel rivets, and a white trident in circle on a red background as the symbol you may be familiar with the look. In the 1990s, Wusthof introduced the Culinar line for commercial use, with hollow stainless steel handles shaped to provide the best possible grip, and a single stainless steel rivet with the trident symbol securing the tang at the base of the handle. These knives are the steak knives in the Culinar line.
I had been using inexpensive but serviceable steak knives for years, but when I got married in 2000, I wanted to get some nicer steak knives to go with our wedding silver. I'd really liked my classic Wusthof kitchen knives, so I looked at Wusthof's steak knives.
The Culinar knives seemed a good match for wedding silver because of the metal handles, but it wasn't until I picked them up that I was really sold. The handle shape lends itself to really effortless use, both for myself and my wife, and the balance is perfect, solid without being heavy. The blades, of course, cut through steak like butter, and require much less sharpening than most steak knives.
Once I took them home, I started using them every day, not just with the wedding silver. Two things that I had been slightly worried about the clip at the tip of the blade, and the possibility that the metal handles would feel cold have not been issues at all; in actual use the handles are perfect, and the clip, not as noticeable against a tablecloth as against the black background in the case, helps prevent the knives from being point heavy and gives them a sharper tip that is occasionally useful. They are simply wonderful knives.
Now, it must be said that the price for these knives reflects their premium quality. If they're out of your price range, you could consider the Wüsthof Classic 4-Piece Steak Knife Set, with equally good blades and the classic black polypropylene handles, for about half the price. Avoid the even cheaper "Wusthof Gourmet" knives; they have stamped blades like the inexpensive knives you can get in the grocery store, not the quality forged blades of these Culinar series knives.
If these Culinar steak knives are within your price range even if you have to stretch a bit definitely get them. You'll thank yourself every time you have steak!I have to admit that I have been enamored with the Culinar series since it was first introduced, and have gradually added to it as new items have become available. The latest addition is the steak knife set.
The knives themselves have an inherent beauty and are visually deceptive in that they appear at first glance to be a single piece of steel from handle to blade, though in fact blade and handle are individual pieces with the illusion of being seamless.
The balance of these knives is perfect, and if you are adding to a growing Culinar collection as I was, I would highly recommend these knives.

I have a manual sharpener, but in reality almost never use it. The electric sharpener makes keeping my knives sharp a no-brainer. There's a coarse grinder for knives that are dull. For most knives the fineand polishing-grinder works just great. If you have inexpensive knives, the coarse grinder will chew them up, but if you have well-made knives the Waring will work well. I've had good success with the Waring.Read Best Reviews of Waring KS80 Knife Sharpener, Black and Brushed Stainless Here
I received my knife sharpener very quickly and when I opened the box, I was very impressed; this was no rinky-dinky machine. I read over the instructions which were very simple, then using just a few at a time, over the course of 3 or 4 days, I got all my knives sharpened to a beautiful edge even some that looked hopeless. For years I've tried to learn how to sharpen knives the "old-fashioned" way. Pooh. A couple of minutes and my knife is sharpened to look better than it did when it was new. When they were all sharpened, then the machine went into the cabinet til needed again, whenever that might be. It does heat up and has to rest occasionally, but the instructions warned me of this. I love this product!Want Waring KS80 Knife Sharpener, Black and Brushed Stainless Discount?
Sharpens medium to long knives. Short knives only part of the blade. The first two stations are very powerful and will remove a lot of metal and should only be used if the knife has nicks and no edge at all. The honing stage is best for most of my knives. I suggest using an old knife which you don;t care about first. to test all three operations.F. Dick 7" Japanese Santoku Knife

I love these because they are fun, but they don't hold up forever. I have a tiki themed motorhome that i use these in. Since they just get occasional use they are fine. I had some that i used in the house for regular use and after a couple months the handles start to fall off. I won't use them in my kitchen any more for that reason, but as a novelty for camping trips i'd say they were worth the price and will buy more when the ones i have break.Read Best Reviews of Bellamo 26 piece bamboo look flatware set Here
I regret ordering these -we just got these a few weeks ago for outdoor eating, and four forks have snapped in half already. Mundial B5604-7GE 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife, Blue
It's a very well-made (inexpensive) knife. It takes an edge fast. It stands up to the dishwasher. The price is great. But there is something about the balance and blade shape...it just doesn't work for me the way a traditional chef's knife does. For this reason, I gave it four stars instead of five.
I also bought a 14" slicer. It's wonderful.
I may go ahead and order a Mundial chef knife. The knives I used in the commercial kitchen were huge chef models, and they worked better for me.
Toastmaster 6102 Electric Carving Knife
First, the switch: Because it is a cheap push-in button, which must be constantly depressed to keep the knife on, you lose optimum control quickly. The handle is badly placed for this, as your thumb must always be on TOP of the handle and forward toward the front of it, but you can't hold your hand up there because your wrist angle will be completely wrong for cutting. In addition, keeping that button depressed is difficult not only because it does require a constant application of pressure at a different direction from both the grasp and the application of the knife, but because the button sinks deep into the handle, so your thumb is inside the handle as you're trying to hold and control the knife: Quick cramp. Moreover, as you're pushing it in, if the food you're cutting is moist (like a turkey), juices may run onto the handle, your thumb--and into the hole into which you're pressing the button. NOT safe. A couple times I've wondered whether that shooting pain in my thumb was from nerve torture or electric shock; either way, it wasn't good.
Then the weight distribution of the knife is not very good. Look at the huge bulk of the motor--and then look at where the handle is located, and how it is designed. There's no way to hold this at a proper angle with the handle shaped as it is. Add in the need to be depressing the power button as you're holding it awkwardly, and...
2 stars for effectiveness; minus 3 for bad functional design. This knife was purchased for us as a wedding gift and we've used it for 10 years. Not all the time, mind you, but for special occasions like Thanksgiving. It's always worked well, never jammed, and it just slices through a turkey like it was butter. We've had nothing but good to say about this knife and for the money, well, it's hard to go wrong! But, if you are looking for something to use more consistently, I would definitely recommend a better brand because I honestly don't think this one would hold up well under a lot of use.

Price was a factor in buying, but I wanted mostly for slicing bread machine bread. The bit at the end of the blades get hung up in my Presto slicing guide as the blades are too short; further, the switch is extremely temperamental and only works if you move your thumb around a lot. I'd return it, if the postage, packaging and trip to post office were worth it + trying to dig up original cash receipt! These people do NOT want return business! The Toastmaster electric knife is great, especially for adults with small hands. Most of the current models of other electric knives don't have a handle to grasp; and because the outside of the knife is smooth, it is quite slippery. Thus, it is difficult to grasp the knife. The Toastmaster's handle makes for easy holding during use. However, all the manufacturers would be wise to lengthen the knives to the size they were decades ago and charge a few more bucks.
This is the biggest drawback of the Toastmaster -it's blades are shorter than other models.

I received my shipment in record speed timing! Brand new, still in the wrapper. Works beautifully! Although I must confess, I'm using it to cut foam wedges (up to 8 " thick) for upholstery cushions. It works perfectly, doesn't get hot after long non-stop cutting. Excellent clean cuts.... Not exactly what it's made for... but then again, I'm a vegetarian.

We love using this knife. It's very sharp! It also works well when making sandwiches as the blade is wide enough to put butter or mayonnaise on bread as well as slicing veggies and lettuce, sausage, ham, cheese, whatever. Zwilling J.A. Henckels Zwilling One 6-Inch All Purpose Prep Knife
One caution--when mine arrived it had come loose in its OEM packaging (it was still inside another box, thankfully) and the tip was protruding out of the cardboard at one end. Be careful to check yours when it arrives so you don't get cut accidentally. Also make sure if it's loose that the tip is not broken. I was lucky and mine wasn't. I can't hold that little problem against Amazon (who double-boxed as they should) or the knife, though. It must have taken a heck of a whack during shipping.

Japanese Stainless Steel Paring Knife with Scabbard- Brown Handle
Pros:
+ Blade incredibly sharp
+ Sheath is solid wood
+ Sheath fits blade like a glove
+ Knife is light weight
Cons:
Handle is slightly rough
Handle is not solid wood? (wood fibre?)
Super-light handle throws off balance
The strong point of this knife is its blade. It's made in japan and razor sharp. This knife is at least 10x as sharp as any knives you would find at your local department store even if you paid double the price. The combination of sharpness and light weight makes this knife incredibly dangerous, and coincidentally, really effective at its intended function.
So, in the end, even though this knife is not perfect, it has quality where it counts, and the price is amazing. It is easily five stars at this price, and would make a great little gift for someone who likes to snack on fruit or vegetables, as long as their dexterity is good =)

Normally don't do reviews, but for this i will. This knife is great. Got it for around $9 and it trumps any knife i currently have. I use it for some average stuff like cutting meat and it just glides through. I mainly bought it to get back in to sushi making and i have no doubt that this knife will do a great job cutting through that sticky rice.Read Best Reviews of Japanese Stainless Steel Paring Knife with Scabbard- Brown Handle Here
OK.This knife has a lot of pluses going for it. It looks great, it's pretty sharp out of the box, it holds a pretty good edge. It only has a couple of minuses...the varnish on the wood handle and scabbard wears away pretty rapidly and, so, you must make it a point of not getting either very wet, otherwise you may completely ruin either; the thumb rest on the scabbard isn't the most securely attached thing on the planet and, finally, once the edge goes it takes a fair amount of work to get it back to like-new-sharpness.
That all said, I like it. A lot. Especially for
