This is a true commercial grade knife. No fancy box or handle, its meant for one thing, working that's it. It took a few minutes of honing to get it razor sharp, but it took an edge rather easily. Balance is decent with heft towards the front which is to be expected with a knife this size. I have a 10" chefs knive and didn't want to spend a fortune on a 12" since it won't be used too often in a home kitchen and this fits the bill pefectly. I'm very pleased and highly recommend it!
