I love cheap knives for a few reasons. I use them for one-off cutting tasks in the kitchen. I like the cheaper steel because it is lower in carbon content and thus holds up better in the dishwasher. I also like the duller blades so I can cut more carelessly without as much fear of cutting myself. And despite my love of cheap knives, these knives are far, far too cheap even for my tastes. Cutting through mildly hard cheese has broken three of them already: the metal tang barely goes into the plastic handle at all, so any resistance breaks the metal right out of the handle.
Additionally, several of them have rusted after one trip through the dishwasher. Fascinating.
I bought these to replace some cheap knives ($20 for a full set of steak knives plus six large knives plus a block) that rusted after ten years of dishwashing. These are far, far, far worse than those. I'll be tossing the rest of them and upgrading to a slightly more expensive cheapo knife.
P.S. The ridiculous gift box is annoying too. Really? What kind of jerk would ever give these as a gift? Printed right on the box (but not depicted in the photo) is some ridiculous price like $19.99. If you give these as a gift and imply that you spent $20 in them, your friend will think you are an idiot for spending that much money on rubbish and a jerk for gifting such rubbish.Worst steak knife I got.. handle Plastic is too weak... it breaks while cutting... 6 broke with in the 4 days of use.
