Wusthof Ikon 9-Inch Hollow-Ground Carving Knife with Blackwood Handle

Wusthof Silverpoint ll 23-Piece Block Knife Set
The good news is the steel holds an edge well, does not rust like many cheap knives do, and the molded handles are food safe, meaning no crevices or rivets to catch bits of food. This is the style of handle used on knives the pro chefs use, for sanitary reasons. This set is a nice wedding gift, has everything and then some, and I think it's a good deal for an experienced chef too.
In practice, though, for prep you won't need all of these. It's great having them once in a while, but you can get by with only three. You'll need a good paring knife, a good 8" chef's knife, and a bread knife that covers almost everything. I put stars in the list below by those knives. I know this huge assortment looks better as a gift, but if you have to limit yourself, you can downsize to just a few.
The set contains these 23 pieces:
2 1/4" peeling knife
3" flat cut paring knife
3" spear point paring knife *
3" clip point paring knife
4 1/2" utility knife
5" brunch knife
8" bread knife *
8" cook's knife *
(8) 4 1/2" steak knives
8" slicing knife
6" kitchen fork
5" boning knife
6" cook's knife
9" steel
kitchen shears

The quality of the product is awesome, just what I'd been hoping for and looking for. Only thing is I was surprised to see that it came in exactly the box seen in the photo, and nothing around, not even tape to keep the box shut during shipping. Kinda made me nervous that it went through all that and could have easily been opened and taken but the servingware looks great.Read Best Reviews of Fortessa Grand City Cake Serving Set, Stainless Steel Here

Meyerco Sharpen-It Knife Sharpner With Sheath
I rediscovered the pleasure of cooking with sharp knives.
Unlike a honing steel this will really sharpen blunt knives (removing some metal) and not just unbend the edge.

Wusthof Classic 18-Piece Mini-Mega Block Set
This set is great because you get a 10 piece Wusthof classic set, which are heavy weighted super quality knives, but then you get 8 steak knives from their Gourmet line of knives. The Gourmet are good quality, but not quite a good as the classics. However, for steak knives, I feel you don't need the 5 star knives, the 4 star will do just fine since you're only eating with them, not preparing food (and they're very sharp and high quality too!). Both styles of knives have the 3 rivet look and are full tang, so even though they're not the same line, they look very similar and go nicely together. And for the price, you get about twice as many steak knives then if you were to get classic series steak knives. The 8 steak knives in this set really make it a complete set for the money.
The block has several empty slots as well, which make it nice for future expansion. The block if very heavy and comes mounted on a swivel, so the knives can be easily accessed from anywhere on your kitchen counter. I highly recommend this set. This is a great set of Wusthof Classic knives. It seems to have pretty much whatever you might need in the kitchen and then some. I purchased this set because I wouldn't be wasting lots of money on knives I didn't need by combining other sets or spending more purchasing them all separately, but mainly because it came with 8 steak knives and a block large enough to hold 8 rather than 6 steak knives.
Be aware though, that while the large knives are all Wusthof Classic knives, the steak knives are Wusthof Gourmet. Not the same quality, and I think the description is somewhat misleading since the title of the collection is "Wusthof Classic". That implies that everything in the set is Classic. It is not.
That said, at this price I can't say I am surprised. Eight Classic steak knives would definitely cost more combined with the larger knives in this set.
Still a good buy as long as you know what you're getting.

The big question when investing in a quality set of knives is Wusthof or Henckels. Both are superior knives but when it came down to the very small details, we opted to go with Wusthof. While the Classic line is one of Wusthof's more affordable lines, I like the feel and look of these knives better than the Grand Prix and Culinar. The 3 rivet design, in my opinion, feels and looks more durable and solid despite the more ergonomic or comfortable knives found in the Grand Prix and Culinar lines.
The advantage of going with the larger knife set was savings and the larger wood knife block. The 18-piece set gives you up to 25 slots! This set comes with 8 steak knives that fit within the same wood block. The smaller sets have room for only 6 steak knives or in some cases, none. The larger block can also accomodate a cleaver if you wish.
Any way you go, Wusthof or Henckels, Classic, Grand Prix or Culinar you can't go wrong.

I've used other magnetic knife bars before and have NEVER had this problem.I ordered 3 of the RSVP 10" magnetic knife holders. On all three of them, there were severe manufacturing defects that prevent the four magnetic bars from lining up with one another. If the bars don't line up, the knife isn't supported well on the wall, often only held by 2 of the bars instead of four. This results in the knife being barely held to the wall.
I hoped that it was a problem with just one or two of them, so I ordered three total. All of them were bad, some of them were worse than others.
Terrible knife bar. I suggest a different model!
I'm returning mine...

Victorinox Forged 17-Piece Knife Set with Block
The knives are wonderful to use as well. The factory edge on the blades is mind-boggling. They cut almost like straight razors but without the need for constant sharpening. When I first realized the steak knives weren't serrated I was a bit worried but having used them I can say they cut far better than any serrated steak knife I've used and will be easier to keep sharp.
The complement of included knives is very balanced. At first I thought the chef's knife might be a little too big for most tasks but it handles so supremely that it is still easy to use for any size job from chopping garlic up to slicing / dicing large onions. This was a big deal to me to be able to have a single go-to knife for general meal prep. I also recently used the boning knife for a bone-in honey baked ham and effortlessly had perfect slices down to the bone. My wife is crazy about the veggie knife. No matter what job you have there's a choice in this set to make your job easy.
The bamboo block looks surprisingly nice in person. I think bamboo can sometimes be written off as a cheap / eco-trendy option, sometimes rightly so, but this in no way feels like some temporary "oh that's the one that came with the set" block that I'll be replacing in a couple years. The bamboo is very well put together, very nicely finished, and very solid. And without the slightest hint of cheap about it the bamboo is extraordinarily beautiful. If you want oak and nothing can change your mind that's your opinion, but for my money this particular bamboo block leaves nothing to be desired.
I chose this set over similar Wusthof and Henckels sets when I found out they included stamped steak knives. I know there are some fine stamped blades out there but I personally see forged blades being in another category and although the sets with stamped steak knives cost less up front when I looked up the cost of the set of matching forged steak knives I would need someday if I got the other brand I decided it was silly to spend that much money on a knife set with the intention of having to buy part of the set over again.
The Victorinox selection is also a bit more comprehensive than the competition's in my opinion. I don't feel like I have to add a santoku or a nice chef's knife or a boning knife or have a couple more steak knives in a drawer because everything is included.
The only "con" to this set is the price. All I can say about that is that I think it's worth every penny.
Hope this helps!I noticed that the description does not include exactly which knives are included. Victorinox is a great brand and if you want good knives at a decent price, this might be a good option for you.

I had to throw out a similar size cutting board because it was just worn out. This Trudeau board is perfect. It is "rubberized" on each end so it won't slide.Read Best Reviews of Trudeau Wave Reversible Cutting Board Here
I've had my very own black granite board for 2 weeks now. It rocks. For 5 years, I've been feverishly cutting, dicing, and slicing on a set of white plastic boards from IKEA. I only ever used the large one--really, when do you need just the small one? At this point, it's gotten so knicked up I fear I'm ingesting more extra harmful bacteria than my immune system can handle.
Enter--this fabulous cutting board. It's pretty, which earns it some points, and super easy to whip in and out of the cupboard (it easily fits in the same one I keep cookie sheets in) with its handle. Its rubberized grip keeps it firmly planted on the counter so I don't unwittingly fling little bits of onion into the eyes of innocent bystanders. Unlike other reviewers, I haven't noticed nicks yet. I do keep my knives super sharp with sharpening stones and a leather strop (maybe that helps?). If you don't, I highly recommend it--plus you get the added bonus of telling people you use a leather strop.
The only con would be the meat cutting side. Somehow I overlooked that small detail when I ordered. I thought the cutting board was the same on both sides. Alas. I'm a vegetarian, so I don't have a use for that side. Or at least, my creativity hasn't rose to the challenge.
Summary: It's a cutting board. It works. It's big enough for whatever your heart desires, but not too big. Goldilocks would approve. Happy chopping!arrived on time in new condition and looks great with my new granite counter tops. it does scratch but that is ok by me.
Wusthof Grand Prix II 8-Piece Block Set
Wusthof Culinar 6-Piece Steak Knife Set
Wusthof's classic knife design has handles of black polypropylene riveted to the tang with three stainless steel rivets, and a white trident in circle on a red background as the symbol you may be familiar with the look. In the 1990s, Wusthof introduced the Culinar line for commercial use, with hollow stainless steel handles shaped to provide the best possible grip, and a single stainless steel rivet with the trident symbol securing the tang at the base of the handle. These knives are the steak knives in the Culinar line.
I had been using inexpensive but serviceable steak knives for years, but when I got married in 2000, I wanted to get some nicer steak knives to go with our wedding silver. I'd really liked my classic Wusthof kitchen knives, so I looked at Wusthof's steak knives.
The Culinar knives seemed a good match for wedding silver because of the metal handles, but it wasn't until I picked them up that I was really sold. The handle shape lends itself to really effortless use, both for myself and my wife, and the balance is perfect, solid without being heavy. The blades, of course, cut through steak like butter, and require much less sharpening than the stamped steel blades of most steak knives.
Once I took them home, I couldn't resist using them every day, rather than just with the wedding silver. Two things that I had been slightly worried about the clip at the tip of the blade, and the possibility that the metal handles would feel cold have not been issues at all; in actual use the handles are perfect, and the clip, not as noticeable against a tablecloth as against the black background in the case, helps prevent the knives from being point heavy and gives them a sharper tip that is occasionally useful. They are simply wonderful knives.
Now, it must be said that the list price for these knives reflects their premium quality. If they're not currently on sale, you could consider the Wüsthof Classic 6-Piece Steak Knife Set, with equally good blades and the classic black polypropylene handles, for about half the price. Avoid the even cheaper "Wusthof Gourmet" knives; they have stamped blades like the inexpensive knives you can get in the grocery store, not the quality forged blades of these Culinar series knives.
If these Culinar steak knives are within your price range, though even if you have to stretch a bit definitely get them. You'll thank yourself every time you have steak!

I love the fact that this cutting board does not slide around like all my others. The design is so simple, I do not know why they just got around to this now. The one side has a section to hold onto roasts or cheese to make carving a snap. It also lets juices run off into a channel instead of all over the counter. The other cutting boards went into storage in the pantry. This one stays out on the counter.Read Best Reviews of Joseph Joseph Cut and Carve Plus Multi-Function Chopping Board Here
I will be tossing two other cutting boards which I have used for cutting things which either slide around on a board or release too many juices and ooze onto my counter. This is wonderful! I first saw it at a relative;s house, and she said that she uses it all the time because of its versatility. The sharpish pegs on one side keep our ham, roasts, and chicken in place, and the other side is smooth for cutting anything else. The surface of the board slants to one long side, and I had not realized until I bought it that it does the same on the other side. This is great for collecting the juices, crumbs, or sliced and diced things off to one side. There is no down-side to this product.Want Joseph Joseph Cut and Carve Plus Multi-Function Chopping Board Discount?
I absolutely LOVE this cutting board! It works fabulously when carving a roast or any other meat; the angled well is more than sufficient for catching all the drippings. I used to use a wooden carving board but hated trying to clean it afterward. They got dull after two weeks. Can not believe that knives can go from extra sharp to dull in such short period of time. But they were cheap, so I bought what I paid for.Nice for the money but not especally sharp. I dont think Id buy it again but for something with a budget in mind they are a good deal..My wife wanted some more knives for the kitchen, so I found this set. She loves it. Its extremely sharp and show no signs of dulling. I might even buy another set because of how economical they are.Farberware Traditions 21-Piece Knife Block Set
Great knives on the other hand require an investment that most starting or part-time cooks simply can't justify. Higher quality "never need sharpening" knives can be useful but are generally limited. What is needed are knives with real blades, that can be sharpened, that have the right weight and are at a low cost. These knives come very close...
Pro's
--Cost is very low(lower than most "low quality" sets and 100s lower than high end knife sets).
--Blades are good.
--Includes a large variety of knives and scissors. In particular two cleavers.
--Good set of steak knives
Con's
--Handles are small...the balance is affected and cutting quality and speed will be impacted.
--Blades do need to be dried after hand washing...rust can occur otherwise but this is steel that NEEDS sharpening.
--Blade weight could be better.
I bought these as a set of knives for a second kitchen(my other is in fact a higher end set also by Farberware). I like having slicer, cleaver etc. nearby so I can use the right tool for the job at hand. If you are looking for a set of knives that has a good selection of blades and have a tight budget I can't imagine a better set. In particular if you are not a full time cook this is a low cost way to get real knives into your kitchen.

If you're an avid fan of rust then by all means, buy these knives. I've had mine for a little less than a month and my wife and I always hand washed them. They RUSTED in the drying rack. We're not talking about days or months submerged, nope just overnight in the rack will do. I swear they had little rust speckles right out of the box. I should have known better though because I read a review like this one, but ignored it so I guess I got mine. Farberware must have specially engineered the stainless steel to rust faster. I am severely dissapointed, and unless you like rust you will be too. oh, and they hold a terrible edge, but I'm not a chef so that really didn't bother me.Read Best Reviews of Farberware Traditions 21-Piece Knife Block Set Here

I have had these knives for a month now. Please understand that I do NOT do dishes, so my knives are likely left in a shocking state to kitchen fanatics until my husband finally washes and dries them in the dishwasher. Other reviewers have said how terribly these knifes rust. I have to say I haven't seen any of this so far though!I needed a new set of knives and this one was $100 at my local mall. For a 1/3 of the price on Amazon its stylish and a great buy! It has 2 sets of scissors so I can finally have one to open bags and one to use on food. Much better!

Honestly, this is a great board for cutting.Unfortunately, I also have a sense of smell and a sense of taste.
The board reeks of chemicals when washed... hand-washed.
Also, if you leave something on the board for more than a minute or so and the board is wet (for instance, cutting onions, fruit, or anything that leaves a liquid), the food tastes like the cutting board smells.
Make sense?
I won't buy this again. There are other cutting boards out there that don't have this issue.

At first I thought this cutting board was a bit pricey. I've paid less for wood, plastic, and bamboo boards that were larger. That being said, this is the only board I've owned that has been worth the money I spent on it. It has held up remarkably well to hard use/abuse in my kitchen. I use it multiple times daily, and while it's starting to show a little wear (I've had it for around 6 months), it's far from needing to be replaced. It has far fewer gouges/scratches than a bamboo or wood board easily 1/10th its age, which means it's far less of a bio-hazard. You can also put it in the dishwasher, which is a plus (though I use it so often that I rarely wash it in the dishwasher). I also like the slate color... that way it won't be stained by curries and other such items that eventually left my white plastic cutting board looking like someone did something unpleasant on it.Quite simply, this is the best cutting board I've ever owned. It's lightweight but very sturdy, it doesn't dull my knives, it's resistant to bacteria, and it's DISHWASHER friendly the board fits into the bottom rack of my dishwasher without a problem. Try doing that with an old wooden board! The Epicurean is also really good looking, even after months and months of hard use, and has a pleasant feel as well, not rough and scored like wood or plastic can get. I don't think I could ask for more from a board (unless it could wash itself, but that's just wishful thinking...).Master 2 Piece Baby Feeding Set
The fork and spoon are the same overall size as the ones that match our wedding silver, 4.5 inches long for the fork and 4.25 inches long for the spoon. These lengths are excellent for a toddler's first fork and spoon.
However, there are some issues. The bowl of the toddler spoon is a bit large for her mouth, and would have been considerably large for her when she started using a spoon; a bowl the same size as on the infant feeding spoon would be better. More importantly, the tines on the fork are blunter than on an adult fork, or on our silver toddler fork. For softer foods that are scooped up with a fork rather than speared, this isn't a problem. However, it does means that our daughter has difficulty dealing with foods that need to be speared with the fork fish or a ground steak will often fall apart, while a toddler simply isn't strong enough to push these blunter tines into a piece of regular steak or a roast.
Unfortunately, choices are limited. Sterling is rather expensive for baby ware. For older children, the Oneida children's flatware Oneida Chateau 3-Piece Child Set has a sharper fork, similar to adult forks, but that set is a bit large for a toddler. Overall this set may still be the best choice available for a toddler's first flatware, and it does make an excellent new baby gift.I was trying to find a small fork and spoon for our 16 month old granddaughter. I had purchased a set earlier, J.I.P. Jungle Animals Cutlery Set, Stainless Steel, that was too large for her age. It was hard to find what I wanted but finally did!
