I used this item for several months without any major problems. The length of the blade occationaly caused difficulty in cutting the top sphinter muscle, but otherwise was adequate for the task. I recently obtained some oysters which were significantly larger than those previously purchased. Unfortunately, in trying to open the larger oysters, the blade snapped off. It was necessary for me to revert back to the old tool commonaly used by casual oyster shuckers; a large flat bladed screwdriver. I would recommend this knife, with a caveaut, to only use it when shucking small to medium oysters.
