Pure Komachi 2 Series Scalloped Sandwich Knife

Pure Komachi 2 Series Scalloped Sandwich KnifeI have a four different Pure Komachi knives. This sadwich knife is the most unusual and practical. It just can't be beat for slicing bagels. After cutting the bagel it serves as a fine spreader for the cream cheese. It's also great for narrower breads like baguettes.

Mine is not purple, but I dig the purple color and sent a few to my family members, who use them with delight.

This knife, along with all the other Pure Komachi 2 knives, are a great value. After using sub-standard knives for several years, I had $50 in birthday money to get one nice chef's knife. The kind sales associate steered me towards these knives. For my $50 I was able to pick up the hot pink chef's knife, the bright orange bread knife, and this lovely purple sandwich knife. I even had money to spare! I couldn't be happier with the sharpness, performance, balance, and sturdiness of these knives!

Think I bought this at Target, but it's hard to mistake the knife.

I love it! After tons of crappy knives it was so nice to have one that actually sliced bread without squishing it. It's easy to clean, just running it under the water is usually enough. And it's easy to find in a drawer or utensil stand. :)

I have had a Pure Komachi for a few years now. Mine has an orange handle but it is essentially identical to this knife. I have never put it in the dishwasher as with any knife, from the cheapest to the best, dishwashers are not good for knives. At the very least the action of the water dulls the blades. I imagine that some people had issues with the coating wearing off as well from being less than careful when it comes to cleaning.

I have had no problems whatsoever. When we first got it, it was so sharp it was a little scary. After a year or so of regular use it dulled to extremely sharp but no longer scary. I have never had it sharpened and it works great on bagels, cutting sandwiches, long breads like Italian or French bread, all types of rolls, etc. Regardless of whether what you are cutting is hard or soft it does an equally good job.

It's very easy to clean so a little soap and water on a sponge, dry it with a dish cloth and in 20 seconds you're done. I found the size to be perfectly suited to cutting bagels without cutting yourself. I will occasionally use it to put mayo on a sandwich but then I have to wash it, so most of the time I just use it for bread and bagels so it gets washed only occasionally.

It's definitely our favorite knife. We use it all the time every day. Would I carve a turkey with it? No, but I wouldn't race in the Indianapolis 500 in a minivan either. Nothing is good for everything. This knife is excellent for a variety of functions. Use it appropriately, take reasonable care when cleaning it and it should last you 10 or more years. Ours is 3 or 4 years old and shows no signs of wear.

I just love this knife. I also have the 6 1/2 inch chef knife and these two knives are by far my favorite. How convenient and time saving for one knife to perfectly slice the bread, the tomatoes and any other topping as well as spread the dressing. I love the different colors as soon I open knife drawer there is no thought in picking the one I want. As someone else stated usually, if not using a spread a quick rinse is just fine. If I use a spread I just use a soapy sponge, never leaving any knife soaking. Washing sharp knives in the dishwasher can be hazardous to the knife, the dishwasher and the cook! It is too easy to reach into a dishwasher and get a nasty cut. Sharp knives can nick plastic-coated wire shelves and other utensils. The force of the water can dull knife-edges by pushing them against shelves or utensils. The combination of hot water and the chemicals in dishwasher detergent can leave stains on stainless steel cutlery that comes in contact with silver or silver-plated flatware or copper. (These stains don't effect the knife's performance.)
