If I had the counter space I would certainly go for a giant knife block. But I don't have any counter space but still wanted to protect my knives. These fit the bill. The quality is good and the blade guard won't fall off the knife in the drawer. It also won't rub on the blades. The guards seem to be well made so I think they will last a long time. Also, if I want to I can take a knife to other places, like to work, camping or a picnic, because the blade guard won't fall off during transport.I have to say though that they don't come off too easily. So elderly people may have difficulty here. On the other hand, children will be slowed down for a moment as well which could be a bonus.
