I went for the double serrated over the original bread knife because I read so many reviews about both and how the double scallop cut with more precision and lasted longer. I agree. It is so easy to cut bread and with less crumbs.

This was a gift to my wife after having a Wusthof Trident 8 inch scalloped bread knife for about 25 years. The old scalloped blades are very difficult to sharpen once they lose their edge and points but i was told at Williams-Sonoma that this new blade can be sharpened in certain knife sharpeners. The new knife cuts extremely easily and makes less crust mess, even on fairly tough sourdough rounds. The extra 1 inch of length helps it reach across the large rounds without having to do two cuts. We are very happy with the new knife and highly recommend it if you don't have one yet.

Wusthof knives are excellent and I own many of them. The quality is there. I owned an 8" bread knife and I thought it was good. However, when I tried the 9" bread knife, I knew I had to purchase it. It makes cutting homemade bread easier because it is longer and heavier.
