Yamazaki 65-Piece Set, Service for 12, Belgrove 18/10 Stainless Steel

Yamazaki 65-Piece Set, Service for 12, Belgrove 18/10 Stainless SteelI bought this Yamasaki Belgrove set at Macy's when it was hugely on sale for $179.99 (plus tax), so I think this Amazon price is good. I LOVE this flatware. It is a gorgeous, simple, and elegant design. It feels great in your hand, not like that horrible 18/0 stuff. It makes me happy every time I use it. I've only had it for one month so can't attest to the longevity, but it comes out of the dishwasher sparkling.

I recently purchased this flatware set at Macy's (for $179.99 plus tax). I chose it after looking at nearly one hundred patterns. I had two main criteria for this purchase: 1) 18/10 quality, and 2) a simple (plain) pattern. Initially, I wanted to find an 8-piece set in the $200 range. I found almost no patterns at this price point meeting my criteria. I started looking at sets in the $320 range when I came across this one; imagine my surprise at finding a 12-piece set of this quality for $180. I had never owned 18/10 quality flatware before, so I had not considered the difference weight would make in the "feel" of the flatware; for me, this is the nicest thing about owning this flatware.

UPDATE:

I noticed that the dinner forks do not all share the same bend; seven share one set of bends and the remaining five another. This leads me to believe they were not all made at the same time. I find this very disappointing, but do intend to keep them.

The set arrived well packaged and there were no problems with any of the 65 pieces.

I like the balance, size, weight/strength, and the plain styling-Reed and Barton Dayton set looks similar except for it's rounded handles and is 18/10 versus 18/8 stainless steel (i.e. better), both made in China. I preferred the Yamasaki Belgrove and purchased them at the silver superstore, otherwise the Dayton set is a much better deal and would be my second choice..

No long term use data yet. If you want a set "not made in china" look that up on line and select something, but the price will be much higher. Likewise purchasing individual pieces is cost prohibitive especially for Belgrove.

I was looking for something substantial and this looked like it would be the perfect size and weight. After I received the flatware, I was very impressed with the heft and size of all the pieces. You can tell this stuff is made to last and feels like quality in your hand. Our old set was much lighter and seemed a bit flimsy and cheap in comparison. You won't bend a spoon eating ice cream with this set, but you may drop a fork or spoon off a plate if you try and carry a plate to the sink without the flatware centered on the plate. They weigh a bit which is taking some getting used to, but overall I am quite happy with this selection.
