Wusthof 14-Slot In-Drawer Knife Storage Tray

I'd been looking for something to put my knives in to keep them together. I looked at knife blocks, but I hate clutter on my counter tops, and I couldn't be sure that they would accommodate my larger knives. This looked like the answer.

It only took a week from the day I ordered it, for it to arrive. I actually ordered the 11 Wusthof draw tray from a well known TV shopping network for over $52 which included shipping and tax. I'm glad I checked out Amazon. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the same item, with 3 more knife slots for less and free shipping. I quickly cancelled the other knife tray, and ordered it from Amazon.

I'm happy to say it fits all my knives. The middle section is a little wider and fits my cheese microplane and grater. I'm very happy with the quality of this knife tray, it looks perfect in my drawer. There are wooden dowels, to rest the knives on. I'd heard some others are metal, I'm happy mine are wood.

When I ordered it I worried about the finish of the wood, one reviewer wasn't happy with it. I worried for nothing it's great. It arrived in a large box with lots of those plastic air pillows to protect it.

My drawer measures 9 1/4" x 19 1/4" and it fits perfectly.

I just received this item from Amazon specifically through the merchant, Chefs. I cannot begin to say how disappointed I was in the condition and quality of this product!

One would assume from its description on Amazon that it is manufactured by Wusthof in Germany. No where in that description did it say it is manufactured in CHINA (which it most definitely is), much to my displeasure. The quality of the wood is very poor, having actual splinters, burs and gouges throughout and very haphazardly stained; much of it is left unfinished. I wouldn't dream of storing several hundred dollars worth of Wusthof Classic Ikon knives in such a poor quality organizer.

To say this looks like something a junior high school student would make in shop class would be an insult to shop students! I am incredulous that Amazon and/or Chefs would send out an item in this condition and of this poor quality. In all fairness to the rep from Chefs, I was offered a complete refund and free return shipping which was very nice and makes for good customer relations. However, I would have much preferred a good quality Wusthof knife organizer!

I purchased the beechwood knife tray fits my drawer just fine....wooden dowel connectors no metal or rubber parts. Holds 14 knives and has space for one sharpening steel, some other brands don't have a seperate space for a steel. Quality materials and finish. This style of knife tray/holder is a counter top space saver and keeps sharp instruments from precarious locations. I'll never go back to counter top knife blocks, as long as this style is available.

After reading some of the older reviews I was hesitant to order this product. I figured if it didn't fit the drawer I wanted, I would just use a larger drawer. The product fit my drawer precisely, there were no rubber parts with metal exposed as in the reviews from a couple of years ago. I almost ordered another brand that fit only 13 knives...but I am so pleased with my choice. I would heartily recommend this product. [Review written in July, 2010.]
