All the five star reviews for this knife are correct, this is a great knife. It is very sharp, and the undulating edge (instead of the fine sawtooth edge of a traditional bread knife) does not drag crumbs out of the bread. At 14" long, the blade also is better at cutting through large loaves.

I'm a first year Baking & Pastry student at a culinary college and I was the unfortunate victim of of a considerable amount of theft, all in all I had about half of my $800 knife kit stolen over the course of a couple months, leaving me scrambling for equipment. I love both the quality and price of this knife. It's length makes it perfect for doing all manner of cakes and it works great for other things too! In fact to day I used it to divide up a large watermelon because the chef's knife I was trying to use just wasn't cutting it :P (that was an unintended pun!) But be warned if you don't treat this knife with the proper amount of respect and caution you can get hurt. I learned this while cleaning it and ended up getting 5 stitches in my left index finger.

All in all, an excellent knife that has served me well thus far and hopefully for many years to come!

I have had this knife for about a year and it has been a great investment and an essential tool for my cake decorating. This knife is super sharp and makes cutting cakes into multiple layers simple, quick and easy. I had the original Wilton Cake Leveler before this knife and it was not useful, difficult to use and fell apart. For best results with this knife, minimal pressure needs to be applied to cut through the cakes. It works best with a back and forth sawing motion and creates minimal crumbs. Blade has stayed nice but definitely recommend only hand washing and dry immediately to keep blade in best condition. Comes with a vinyl plastic cover to protect blade and accidental handling, however, I would have preferred a more sturdy cover for added safety benefits.

I bought this knife so I can level my large cakes evenly. Works great with all different sizes. The only thing is you really need to watch your fingers as your cutting and holding the cake. This knife is VERY sharp, but then again it needs to be to do the job. Just make sure you watch your piglets. :)
