Wusthof Culinar 10-Inch Super Slicer Wavy Serrated Knife

Wusthof Culinar 10-Inch Super Slicer Wavy Serrated KnifeI wanted to replace my cheap knife block set with a great one that can last a generation and found Wushtof Culinar Series to my liking. Initially, I thought the metallic handle could be slippery. So, I went to a local store and tested it and found it to be be very very grippy and solid to hold. I liked how these knives curve on the handle. That helps handle get a perfect grip in the hand.

This is a very long serrated knife and it works great to slice meats, bread and large items like watermelon. With our old bread knife, we could hardly cut the bread neatly without crushing it producing lots of bread crumbs. With this one, we are able to cut the bread like they do at bakeries. Perfect!

You will not regret spending money on this. You can avoid get a seperate bread knife and carving knife if you get this one.

Paderno World Cuisine 14 1/8" Chef's Knife with Forged Blade

Paderno World Cuisine 14 1/8' Chef's Knife with Forged BladeI had to ask my self three questions when I purchased this knife. Was it a good deal? Yes, for the amount i paid for it (under $35 shipped, used like new), and the quality of the steel, I would have been happy with almost any sized knife. But do you need a knife this big? Can is possibly be useful? HELL YES!!!! Who doesn't want a freakin' sword! Parsley beware... I even carved a turkey with it once, being in a pinch for a carving knife. It was a bit heavy for the job, but with a long draw and a pretty sharp blade (after some touch-up) it did a neat job of it. Probably wouldn't have bought this product at the list price, so thanks Amazon for the hook-up. Paderno World Cuisine 14 1/8" Chef's Knife with Forged Blade

This knife is wonderful, but if you have weak wrists or do not need 14.125 inches, then I would avoid it. It's a little hard to maneuver, especially on anything but a huge cutting surface. I love the weight, as I do a lot of poultry butchering--it makes things so easy. It wasn't very sharp when it came, but now that I have sharpened it, it holds its edge beautifully (of course, this is coming from someone who finally gave up his 13 inch carbon steel knife, acquired in 1977).

Buy Paderno World Cuisine 14 1/8" Chef's Knife with Forged Blade Now

This knife is huge, my 10" fit on top of the blade. One things for sure! Your going to need to buy a bigger cutting board. The tip of the blade was not very sharp, had to get out my stones and extra long steel to get a nice edge. "

Winsome Wood Kitchen Cart, Natural

Winsome Wood Kitchen Cart, NaturalThe first thing I can tell you is to make SURE you put the legs in the correct position exactly as pictured or you will put it together twice like I did. Construction was not difficult, took me 1 1/2 hours counting the time it took to disassemble and reassemble the legs.

The screws are very tight going in, which at first I thought was a bad thing until assembled and realized that the tightness of these screws was going to be the only thing holding the stand up.

Building this cart is a two man operation, no written directions only pictures that must be looked at carefully.

The assembled product looks great, nice strong wood. No problems with the drawer opening and closing.

BUT the design is faulty, move the cart around your kitchen a few times with no weight on it and you will see it wobble, 12 screws and dowels are not enough to allow movement of this cart and without some way to shore it up, L braces etc, I am quite certain within a month it will fall apart. Kept stationary with weight on it is no problem.

It is a good value for the money, and would be a five star product, if it were a better designed product that promoted stability.

Update: I added three 25" pieces of wood across the back to brace it along with a few 3/4 inch brackets. One against the back top, One directly behind the wine rack, and one at the bottom so they cannot be seen. The wobble is now at a minimum and I can move the cart around safely. So its still a big hassle, but sturdier than it was before.

This piece looks fine and functions pretty well. Complaint is that the drawer is very difficult to open and close. We don't keep much in there...

Buy Winsome Wood Kitchen Cart, Natural Now

It was an ominous beginning when one of the wooden parts that functions to support the drawer and was supposed to be securely attached to the main body came apart in my hand when I touched it. The screws that were to secure the piece to the table top receded completely into the wood when pushed slightly, so obviously they weren't going to secure anything. After several hours of removing the screws, inserting toothpicks to fill the holes, reinserting the screws, then applying wood glue and clamping the piece, we thought that the rest would be easy. It took a couple more hours and great strength (and cursing and mutterings about ordering stuff online) from my husband to force the screws into misaligned holes. Finally it stands, looking good but a bit wobby if you exert force when you're chopping.

We would have returned it but we didn't have a chance to assemble it until after the 60-day period for returns was up. The wood of some of the components (e.g. the table, the knife holder) was solid but the legs more flimsy. At the least, the company needs more quality control because we got a lemon!

I made 2 mistakes when assembling: I used too long a screw for my first 2 screws, and I didn't plan enough ahead, resulting in the holes for the bottom rod to be on the wrong side (the drawer side), so I just left the bar off. One other thing the drawer sticks when trying to fully close it, so I don't fully close it. Despite these items, I would buy it again and recommend it to others.

We bought this primary as a microwave stand and an extra drawer for utensils. Works well. The wine rack is a nice touch for us. Also has a power towel holder (the wooden handle) I wasn't sure it would. There was some slight damage from shipping, which of course is not the manufacturers fault. Wasn't bad enough for me to get with Amazon's customer service, although I believe they would have replaced it if I had. Assembly was not for the light of heart, but maybe not as bad as some other reviewers claimed at the time I was buying it. It does feel a little wobbly when you try to move it around be sure the wheel locks are off! Again, this is mainly a microwave stand for us, so we only move it when cleaning the floor. Oh, also the knife block was completely useless to us, so I didn't even attach it, but I could see someone else wanting it, I guess. Would have been nice if the drawer was designed with roller hardware. The included cutting board is not attached, so you can take it where you need it and then put it back in storage (slides into a slot above the drawer) when you're done. Overall, I'm not wow'd or anything, but I am satisfied with the purchase and would buy it again if I had it to do over.

Shun Ken Onion 5-Inch Utility Knife

Shun Ken Onion 5-Inch Utility KnifeThis 5" Utility knife is as outstanding and satisfying as any other Shun Ken Onion knife. I have no doubt that I will use it frequently for a lifetime. Prior to purchase, I was looking for an excellent knife that was slightly longer than my Wustof 3.5" paring knife and was more multi-purpose for small-to-medium size slicing and chopping jobs. Paring knives are appropriate for small slices, but does not facilitate fine dicing jobs. This is because the handle of paring knives are inline with the blade so that finger joints hit the cutting board when the knife is rocked on the down-stroke. (Such a motion might be useful for dicing a small jalapeno pepper.)

Since I already own a Shun Ken Onion santoku and was so pleased with its performance, I looked to the same brand for a utility knife. This knife is extremely versatile -the ergonomic and slightly off-set handle, in combination with the curved blade, promotes a rocking motion that is great for tiny chopping and small-to-medium slicing jobs. The thin but stiff blade allows it to be used for finer jobs like thinly slicing peppers, cutting small fruits, and even deboning fish. Additionally, the blade is extremely sharp and the weighting is superb. So little effort is required to make clean, precise cuts. I highly recommend the 5" utility knife, and I'm confident future owners will be throughly satisfied as well.

This is my first knife of this quality and I hope I can convey what an absolute joy it is to own. Ken Onion has thought through the ergonomics of actual use and his resulting design becomes an extension of your hand. He studied hours of videos of knife use by both left handed and right handed master chefs and the resulting details create what may be the best designed knife on the market.

The upward curve of the handle is designed to fill your palm which gives pinpoint control when using the pinch grip or even just grasping the knife in your hand. Notice the angle of the blade to the handle, that angle is optimized to remain relative to the cutting board regardless of the size of the user. The tang curves backward to accommodate your thumb and forefinger in a pinch grip without causing the muscle tension that a straight tang can cause.

I haven't even gotten the the quality of construction and the quality of the forged steel blade, I'll leave it to the product description to do that but a final word about sharpness! Someone in a review of a Shun described it as feeling like it was "heat activated" going through a tomato, I can't improve on that imagery. :)

If you are on the fence about acquiring a Shun Ken Onion...get off it and get one.

UPDATE 03/18/12:

Be extremely careful about leaving a Shun standing in water. I left one of mine "to soak" and forgot it until the next day, the edge had been destroyed by rust in just 12 hours! I don't mean it lost sharpness, it was notched, actual gaps in the SG edge!

My Shuns are great but the loss of free lifetime sharpening eliminates the need for premium pricing. There are Japanese knives as good for less.

I'm tired of dull knives.... got this at a great (although not cheap) price. My wife used it before I got a chance. When I asked her how it worked she said, "it's like it is heat activated". I was a little confused at first. I cut some peppers, onions and garlic tonight. It requires very little pressure and is simply a joy to use. It kinda does feel like it's heat activated. I now understand the saying about a hot knife through butter. Can't wait to justify my next Ken Onion purchase. By the way, slicing garlic felt like I was using a razor blade.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Four Star 7-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Santoku Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Four Star 7-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Santoku KnifeBased on advise from a friend, I purchased this knife as a backup to my 8" chef's blade and have been very happy with it. It is very well balanced for vegetable preparation. I also find it's wide flat blade better than a chef's knife for long even 'precision slicing'.

I have had this knife for a couple of years now and I find that it keeps it's edge (with maintenance) even better than my four star Henkels chef knife.

I love this knife. It's the best kitchen knife I've ever owned. I ordered the 4 star version because I like this style of handle the best. The high carbon stainless steel blade is very sharp and holds an edge a long time. It took me a few days, and a few band-aids, before I got used to how sharp it was. I plan on ordering more of the 4 star series.

This is my first JA Henckels knife...it's incredibly sharp and I love the feel of it in my hand, the fit is great. One caution be careful if you are used to knives that are not this sharp....I have a nice scar from my initial use! Definitely will add some other knives from this collection to my own.

This is a surprizingly great knife. More accurate slicer than the chief's knife, it is also great for dicing. You can hold the knife by it's spine and rock the knife over onions and peppers to get really nice small dice. I obtained a leap improvement to my Salsa's texture after using this knife to prepare it. Definately like this knife for veggie slicing and dicing a lot.

Catskill Craftsmen 12-Inch Small Utility Poly Cutting Board with Groove

Catskill Craftsmen 12-Inch Small Utility Poly Cutting Board with GrooveThe cutting boards are not half inch thick as advertised; they measure approximately 9 mm thick. The boards are also not very flat; they are a bit cupped on the back side. In summary, the boards are not only misrepresented but also of poor manufacturing quality. Even for the low price they are not worth buying as they would flex during use due to the cupping and could not even be turned over to use the other side because the board would then rock.

FYI I also ordered some of their 14 inch "Professional" line which I like and can say are nice thick flat boards, so have a look at them and skip these.

The small cutting board arrived in a timely manner. I am replacing a similar board I have been using for many years. The old one finally broke. This poly one will probably last much longer. It is the size I was needing.

Wusthof 24-1 12-Inch Magnetic Knife holder

Wusthof 24-1 12-Inch Magnetic Knife holderthis is O.K. for small knives, but the magnet is not strong enough to hold much more. I have two other magnet strips that are both better than this one.

The dimensions on this item are incorrect. The magnet portion may be 12 inches but the overall dimensions are closer to 13 1/2, so don't buy it thinking (like I did) that you will put it in a 12" space.

Buy Wusthof 24-1 12-Inch Magnetic Knife holder Now

Purchased this model largely because it bears a reputable brand and it's one of the shorter ones out there. Two stars because the molded plastic frame is nice and hefty. However, the magnets are on the weak side and the metal strips framing the magnets are not nearly true, causing the knives to rock and thus be even less secure on the already weakish magnets. I'll be returning this in favor of a hanging knife rack.

Friedr Dick Plaza Chef's Knife Set

Friedr Dick Plaza Chef's Knife SetI bought this gift for my son when he started culinary school.

It was the right choice. He absolutely loved it.

The knives keep their edge amazingly well. The sharpening steel became known in my son's culinary class as the "magic steel" because of it's ability to hone a knife so quickly and well.

The knives are surprisingly well balanced and the chef's knife has to be used to be believed.

It is important to state that one must handle these knives and tools properly and with considerable care to avoid serious injury. What you may be able to get away with when using grandma's carving knife may result in a trip to the hospital and several stitches.

Imagine drawing a knife, against the grain of a tough cut of beef, with only the weight of blade and still cutting the deeply into the meat. Now imagine six months of *commercial* use and still being able to do it. That is what I mean by holding an edge.

The hard case is professional and travels well. It protects the knives It has a small lock to keep the prying eyes as well as the little ones out.

These knives and tools are wonderful. If you get them, and you are not a professional chef, consider looking into a "knife skills" program at a local culinary school. Then you will really appreciate these knive and your cooking will improve greatly.

Messermeister 3-Inch Sheep's Foot Parer with Matching Sheath, White

Messermeister 3-Inch Sheep's Foot Parer with Matching Sheath, WhiteThere are a lot of different paring knife designs: spear points, clip points, bird's beaks and sheep's foot knives for example. Messermeister makes some of the best.

Each paring knife has its particular uses. You wouldn't try to core a strawberry with a sheep's foot. But, if you wanted to slice up a mushroom or two really, really thinly; easily, without muss, then this is the knife for you.

Messermeister's Meridian 3.5 inch sheep's foot parer at $62.00 a pop (or thereabouts) is just a little too pricey for my blood. But their 3-Inch with the white (or black) plastic handle (for about $9.00) fits the bill nicely indeed.

I've been using a previous one for over seven years, and finally decided to purchase new (more on this later). And this purchase is the same quality as previous. Hoorah for consistency! The knife takes a very keen edge without much effort; probably because of its thinness and that its edge seems to be closer to the Japanese sharpening angle than Western angles. This also means that the knife edge can be easily nicked.

And that's why I'm buying a new one, `cause my wife kept using the Messermeister to open shipping cartons. DON'T do this. Also, DON'T cut into chicken or turkey joints, etc. with it. If you want to chop, use a cleaver. If you want to de-bone, use a boning knife. If you want to dice or chop in quantity, use a chef's knife. But if you want a very practical, excellent paring knife to slice and dice small amounts of veggies, etc., (and economically), then this knife will work extremely well for you.

PS

A sheep's foot knife is designed to put the full force of your hand onto the point. It is then "drawn" toward you to slice. Once you've tried this design, you'll not use a spear or clip point parer again. . . at least for small slicing jobs. Of course, you'll still want different paring knives for other kitchen work, as well as a good assortment of other knife designs as well.

TOWLE GIFTWARE COPENHAGEN 2PC CAKE

TOWLE GIFTWARE COPENHAGEN 2PC CAKEI purchased these for my daughter's wedding. The price was very reasonable, and the pieces were beautiful. They were very simple, and could have easily been engraved. We put tulle and flowers around the handles, and they looked like they cost a lot more than they did. I really recommend these pieces!

Presto 08800 EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener

Presto 08800 EverSharp Electric Knife SharpenerI read all the reviews before buying and just had to write my review (my first ever of any product). I have worked in kitchens in the past and prepare meals regularly. I am a cajun cook and we chop crazy amounts of onions, celery, garlic, bell peppers and everything else from the garden. I also have a catfish pond, and I need a very sharp filet knife. So needless to say I have a drawer full of old filet and chef knives of varing quality and dullness. I have tried so many sharpening techniques and nothing I tried could restore the original sharpness without spending a ton of time an energy.

Well let me tell you, all the positive reviews are correct, this is a marvelous little gem and its the best $24 dollars I ever spent. Less than the new knife I was going to buy. I have knives of every metal imaginable and this little baby put an edge on them that is crazy sharp. I had to warn the wife about how sharp the knives were. Before if a burgular would come at me with one of my knives I would have died laughing, now I have to worry how they are stored in the drawer so not to accidently cut myself rummaging around in there.

Trust me, if you need your knives sharper than this baby gives you then you just are plain crazy. I believe I saw my onions cowering in the fridge! I had to cook a big seafood gumbo with extra onions and celery just to celebrate my new sharp knives.

This baby gets The Cajun seal of approval!!!

Have fun and be safe with your like new sharpness!

***Update***

It has now been almost three months since I first sharpened my knives and wrote this review. I use my knives everyday and they have held their edge ever since, this sharpener is just collecting dust now because I have had no need to resharpen them. I of course use a good piece of steel to keep a razor edge but otherwise I don't foresee having to resharpen for awhile yet.

***Update 2***

Its has been over 6 months now. My knives are sharp as razors with only two sharpening times. And they get heavy use, cleaning huge catfish from my pond and also chicken and all sorts of heavy kitchen use. Coupled with a nice piece of steel this sharpener is so good I just can't live without it. With so much usuage out of my knives and only having to sharpen 2 times in the last 6 months I would have to say it is the best 24$ I have ever spent!

***Update 3***

It has now been 2 years since purchasing this excellent knife sharpener. It is funny, I took this sharpener down from the top shelf to sharpen my 12" chef knife before cutting up a ton of meat to make sausage and I had to wipe all the dust off of it before using it, that is how infrequent I have to sharpen my knifes, and I use my knives for heavy duty use! Love this sharpener! Get yourself a decent piece of steel, a good chopping board and you got it made.

***Update 4*** It now has been 4 years! It is funny 2 years ago my wife bought me this exact sharpener by accident. I had it on my Amazon wish list...for review purposes and she didn't even realize I had one, that is how infrequently I have to sharpen my chef knives. I kept a hold of it to see how long my original one would last, well I am tired of waiting, I am bringing the unopened 2 year old sharpener to work today to sell it.

And I do a lot of cutting and I just took it down from the cabinet and had to dust if off again to see how well it worked before letting go with the unopened one. Knives didn't need it just wanted to 'top em off', all like new again.

*Note to commenter, all my knives in use are in their original cases, or original sleeve.

Next year will be my 5 year review. The person I am selling the unopened sharpener to is a hard core hunter and trapper. We will see how it handles. Stay tuned.

My son gave me a high quality chef's knife a year ago. I kept the knife sharp using a sharpening steel. I had never used a high quality knife before and the difference was remarkable. It was a real improvement over all the knives I had ever used. I really enjoyed using it.

Then, after about 4 months, the knife suddenly got dull. No matter what I did I could not get it back to the way it was when it was new! I used 6 different sharpening gadgets including an oiled wet-stone, a powered work-shop knife sharpener, two traditional kitchen knife sharpeners and even a special diamond coated gadget from our local gourmet shop. They all got the knife sharp, as sharp as all my other knives, but it was no longer dramatically better than the cheap knives.

Based on the 5 star reviews, I decided to give the Presto 08800 Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener a try. After carefully following the instructions, the knife was restored to it's like-new scary sharpness on the first sharpening. It has stayed sharp for 2 weeks with much use.

We have since sharpened several other knives with similar high quality results.

Don't do what I did, instead buy this sharpener first! It is a great tool!

My advice is to carefully read the instructions and follow them. It worked for me.

One night my husband spent three hours sharpening our Chicago Cutlery set by hand and afterwards said he wanted to find an electric sharpner. We started pricing them, but from what we saw they ranged from $80-$135. I went online and found the EverSharp and after reading the reviews purchased it and set it aside for XMas. I just have to say that it has lived up to expectations and then some. It's amazing how quick and effecient this sharpner is! In less than five minutes my husband had our Cutlery knives sharpened even better than they were when we originally got them. He then sharpened his mother's knives that have never had a good sharpening.

I knew I had bought him a good product when after each sharpening he looked at the knife and whispered: "Oh my God!"

Great results at a great price!

I am a culinary student and sharp knives are not only convenient, they are essential to pass classes! Honestly, I am not the best with my whetstone, so I looked for an easier way to sharpen my equipment. I've always been taught that an electric sharpener is the worst thing you could ever use on quality cutlery, but the reviews for this thing were good. I took it to my mother's house to "experiment" with some of her knives that were just about ruined. I was shocked when they went from no edge at all to passable the first time through the machine. I was VERY shocked when they came out VERY sharp the second time through! After sharpening every knife in her house, I took it home and (gulp) tried it on mine... Fantastic!

This gadget has saved me quite a bit of money because I used to get my equipment sharpened by a professional when they really needed it. For about the same cost as one pro-sharpening you can have this device. I have used it on my school equipment as well as my personal collection of Wusthof classics and not had a problem.

However, I do prefer to steel them by hand after sharpening. If you use this device to hone a blade, it can leave a slight burr. I know some people prefer that, but I do not. Also, you need a steady hand to get the most out of the sharpener. You MUST read all directions and follow them to the letter. While not at all difficult, you cannot simply, "Stick in a knife, pull it out sharp."

I have never written a review for a product, but this one has inspired me. Get one!

I look at the gold box every day, and saw this sharpener on sale. I already own it...purchased it locally, not from Amazon, and it cost me more than the gold box price. It does an amazing job on sharpening knives. I have an older set of Chicago cutlery, and it sharpens them razor sharp whenever I use it.....which my wife says it not often enough!! I sharpened our knives the day before Thanksgiving, and the bird practically carved itself. It's also very easy to use, and has a foolproof design. I recommend it highly.

This is really great for things like celery, green onions and other items that can be tricky to cut completely through. I have not used it for herbs yet but think that it would be even better for that. If nothing else, it breaks up the monotony of chopping a bit.

Kitchen Cart, Deluxe By Winsome Wood

Kitchen Cart, Deluxe By Winsome WoodThe cart is great, aside from two issues. First, I can't get the dowel off that's supposed to hold paper towels. As I hadn't planned on using this, it's not a big deal, but as the picture shows that it's intended to be used that way, I would expect it to work. Secondly, the way the cart is designed around the handle area it's extremely flimsy.

Each time I push the cart around with the handle I expect it to break. That said, I'm using the edges of the cart to move it around and it works just fine. Once assembled, it looks great, provides extra space for me to work on, since I have cramped counters and the wine rack and slots for the knives are very useful. Overall it's a good deal for the money, with caveats.

Lipper International Bamboo Knife Block

Lipper International Bamboo Knife BlockI have one of these for my kitchen knife drawer at home and wanted to be able to protect my cooking knives while traveling but the drawers in our motor coach are too narrow for the ones I've found. When I saw this, I decided to give it a try. It's just perfect!. It keeps all of my cooking knives, paring knives and steak knives in place so they won't rattle around while traveling.

Very disappointed with this. Smaller than it appears in the photos, knife capacity is nowhere near stated unless you have the tiniest of knives and stack them on each other.

Poor construction quality, wood finish was not smooth, screw hole plugs were not flush, corners peeling and chipped, wood slat glued into top of small knife slots broken and coming loose, etc.

I bought this as a supplement to a wusthoff knife block I already have, to hold a few more knives since it was over capacity. I was hoping to save money and just get a smaller one, this one was a waste of time and money. I'll be returning it and buying a 2nd one of the wusthoff, even if it will take up another drawer and cost twice as much, if it actually works, it's worth it.

I picked this knife block up today at Bed Bath & Beyond while looking for a magnetic knife strip. I still want one of those, but they only had 2, one being too short and the other, a Henkel, was made of plastic with magnets, which I was extremely disappointed about because it was one of the ones I was contemplating ordering. Thank god I didn't. I received the Guy Fieri knives as a gift (which I LOVE!) and a magnetic strip, but the strip was damaged so it was returned promptly and so in the meanwhile, I needed something to store my knives in. I actually have it sitting on the counter and really like it thus far as the knives fit well along with the set of 4 Mondial slicing knives I have and a bread knife I love from another set. I had tried a few knife blocks, but the Fieri knives are very thick and did not fit in any of the ones I tried. So far so good. I'll update in a few weeks as I use it more and maybe get it into a drawer once I get another knife strip to try.

Really wanted this knife block to work out, but my standard sized "steak" knives that came in my generic knife pack wont fit entirely in the top holes of the block. So we have to lay them down on top of the larger knives otherwise the handles stick up and you can't close the drawer. Lots of great reviews but I don't have 6 tiny pairing knives to fit into the slats so it just doesn't work!

Victorinox Honing Steel 12-Inch Round Combination Cut, Black Plastic Handle

Victorinox Honing Steel 12-Inch Round Combination Cut, Black Plastic Handlethis is my second combo cut victronox steel

if you know how to sharpen and maintain your edge well this is the steel for you about 4 laps one set each side and it will have your knife ready to go ...there is a signifcant size increase in the diameter from a 10 inch to 12 inch model......ill spare saying things like it doesnt sharpen because if you recognize the value of coarse and fine you already know ............side note i cut meat for a living so this is getting alot of use and i can attest it is well made.

First thing to realize: this is NOT a sharpener, it is a honing steel. It's great for touching up a knife that already has a sharp edge but will NOT sharpen an otherwise dull knife.

This particular steel is great because with this length, it's suitable for anything up to a 10" knife. Generally, you need a steel that is at least 2" longer than the knife you want to hone.

The plastic handle is okay, not exceptional but not uncomfortable either.

I bought this sharpening steel about a year ago and it gets a lot of use. I would have to keep sharpening my knives on a stone every few months. This tool keeps my knives sharp.

I would have liked to see a nicer handle, though. Just molded plastic. It does what it is made to do, though. Five stars.

What a wonderful honing steel. My knives can be re-aligned quickly and precisely. The two different grains are great. I do most of the honing on the larger grain, and then fine tune with the tighter grain. A single swipe can make all the difference in how precise the knife's blade is.

When doing a lot of knife work sometimes I'll wash the knife, hone it again, and go back to work. No need to have a struggle on your hands when re-honing will make quick work. I usually buy poultry as a whole bird and cut it into pieces myself. Having this honing steel makes cutting up a chicken easy. Cutting through joints and bones is never an issue.

I'm extremely happy I picked this up. It's cheap enough that I don't worry about traveling with it (e.g. to BBQs), but extremely well built and functional. Opposing sides of the steel are smooth and ridged, allowing you to change which parts of the steel you're using by turning your wrist.

Victorinox Cutlery 6-Inch Curved Boning Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

Victorinox Cutlery 6-Inch Curved Boning Knife, Black Fibrox HandleHaving used a boning knife for years when mine suddenly disappeared....I think the Sig used it in the garden (ugh!) I decided to go with this one with the curved blade.

Many people tried to talk me out of this design but I had never been that comfortable with the other style & for this price I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm glad I did.

Boning is a snap....but I like it best for removing "silver skin" on meat.

The textured grip is a great idea. (My old Henckles had the slipery handle.)

I can't find anything NOT to likeabout this knife.

The other day I noticed my butcher using a curved boning knife & asked him about it. He said that of the 6 butchers working at the shop about half like the curved & the other half like the straight.

So it's just a matter of preference. I really like this one better.

I have used these knives for the past 35 yrs. I'm a meat cutter and started when I was 14. I was given one of these and have stayed with them ever since. They are awesome to say the least. They are sharp and can take the punishment of the day to day work load.I'll always use this brand. They are diffinatly the best on the market. Thank you for a fine product

Knife works great for filleting/boning. Has kept a sharp edge well. Great knife for the price

Given the price (in the $20s), and ability to sharpen quickly, this is a great knife to do the chores when a sharp blade is critical. Yeah, it gets dull, but will sharpen quickly and does the job for me.

This is NOT a one star review of the product, its a one star review of the product description. I love Victrorinox knives. I have been using the same rosewood handle curved boning knife since 1987. I bought it for a meat cutting class in college, and I use it to process about a dozen animals a year, including beef, lamb, pork, and deer. The reason for the one star is that the product description does not identify this knife as having a flexible blade. Boning knives from Victorinox come in a variety of blade types and levels of stiffness.

The model number is correct for the flexible blade, but who looks at the model number? Don't assume, like I did, that the description accurately describes the item. Research the model number and make sure that the item you want matches the item you are ordering. I suggest you look at the knives at [..], then order through Amazon.

Thankfully Amazon makes returns easy and they stock the knife I actually want.
