I knew I was ordering cheap but these things had an element of danger to them! The edges on the spoons, knives and tongs of the forks were too square. The photo of them made them look better than they did. It was as though the flatware missed its last stage of finishing. Seriously, these forks are priced about as low as you could want. The quality is not wonderful, they don't look very nice, but I like them anyway. I take them to work and don't have to worry about them getting lost. I wouldn't use them if I were having guests over for dinner, I have other flatware for that.So, if you are going to buy just know the use. If they are just for you and you don't need exceptional look and feel, get these.

I bought this over the normal Built NY wine tote because I liked the idea of a messenger bag. It gets cold in winter and it's nice to have something I can sling over my shoulder and still keep my hands warm in my pockets.The reason I returned this bag is not the quality; I've always found the Built NY brand to be top notch. It's because I can't sling this over my shoulder, at best I can throw it over my forearm. If I were a man; maybe just my wrist. The strap is EXACTLY as long as the picture indicates; it's really my fault for assuming there was additional slack tucked away and it truly was a shoulder bag. What's a bit puzzling is that the two-bottle version is indeed a shoulder bag.

Chef's Choice 120 Diamond Hone 3-Stage Professional Knife Sharpener
... I don't find the sharpener to do that great a job. I have used Lansky sharpeners for years and recently acquired a Chef's Choice 120. Here are my impressions:PROS:
Does an OK job for the person with no sharpening skills whatsoever.
CONS:
You have to get the timing just right when drawing knives through the unit, otherwise the grind is uneven.
If you accidentally allow the point of the knife to dip down upon withdrawing, it will excessively grind the tip.
The rubber feet do not do an adequate job of stabilizing the unit. It will creep when it is in use. I had to place mine on a piece of latex drawer liner.
Finally, and this is what I dislike most of all it leaves longitudinal scratches along the length of the knife. The scratches are not deep but they ARE noticeable.
My advice Get a sharpening stone and learn to use it or if you don't feel comfortable with establishing sharpening angles, get a Lansky or Gatco sharpener. Stay away from this unit.Over the years I've used Chef's Choice sharpeners with excellent results. Currently I use the 120 model and it produces superb edges on top of the line Henckels knives. It takes about 15 minutes for six knives. When I used stones each knife would take 10 minutes or more. The stones may have produced a slightly better edge but, as a working dad, saving an hour of time is a blessing. Three observations: The usual professional criticism of this system is that it takes off too much steel. I've never found that to be the case. Second, do follow the instructions. Third, different tasks require degrees of sharpness: For some tasks, such as cleaning and cutting a number of fish, a razor sharp edge, without "toothiness," doesn't work for me as well as a slight toothy edge (one with micro-serrations). So experiment.

I have always sharpened my many good knives by hand with only the best stones. I am considered to be excellent at sharpening knives by hand. I would never have considered an electric sharpener, or worse, a scraper on a fine knife, but many knives, six children, canning, cooking and commitments have resulted in my not having time to keep the knives as sharp as I would have liked. The reviews on this sharpener persuaded me to spend the money to try this machine. I sharpened every knife in the house in short order. Even the old steel butcher knives stored in the basement which would have taken over half an hour each if sharpened by hand were perfectly sharpened in just a few seconds. The edge when viewed with a good magnifying glass is scratchy, but the cutting edge is smooth which being the only important part, was smooth. This machine is more consistent than sharpening with a stone by hand and produces as good an edge in a fraction of the time. I give the "Chef's Choice 120" knife sharpener my highest rating and recommend it to anyone wishing to maintain a fine edge on their professional knives. The book must be read before using! I have a new model 120 and have had excellent results for kitchen cutlery. The device takes about a few practice knives to get used to, but once you become accustomed to how much pressure to exert on knives when sharpening, how far toward the hilt or back of blade to insert the knife, and the action of each stage, you will be able to produce razor-sharp kitchen blades, this includes serrated knives and Santoku blades.I purchase a series of new Cuisinart kitchen knives that were dull; in fact, the blade steel had a burr on it, a sign of an unfinished sharpening process. The knives are made well and use good quality steel, but the company's sharpening process was sorely lacking. No problem, thanks to the model 120. I sharpened several paring knives, two Santoku blades, Chef's, long meat slicing, serrated bread, and a serrated fruit/veggie knives with exceptional results. The blades were able to slice through paper after the process, much like a quality sports knife. No need to spend more for an exceptional sharpener.
I even restored the edges on three knives that a previous sharpener, the CC Trizor XV, had 'butchered.' The Trizor XV puts a 15-degree edge on knife blades. I found the device took too much material of the blade and produced unacceptable edges, not all of which were evenly ground and sharp. The 120 is doing a far better job of sharpening. The CC120 did an excellent job of restoring those blades, making them, too, razor sharp and once again useful. This is a product that is worth the money. At about $5.00 to $7.00 to have each knife professionally sharpened, two more sharpening sessions and the CC120 will have paid for itself. For kitchen knives, this is a great product. And to hone the blades between sharpening sessions, stage three can be used to hone knives. Take the time to read the instructions and you'll save time on new-product R&D and better understand the rationale for each of the three stages.

I have a lot of experience using various brands of kitchen cutlery, including some from relatively obscure Japanese manufacturers, and I truly believe that this is the best bird's beak knife on the market. The most important thing in selecting a bird's beak knife is sharpness, and Shun knives are certainly among the very sharpest on the market today. The only comparable knife that I have used is the Global bird's beak knife, but this one has a much more comfortable handle than the Global does. Additionally, the Shun bird's beak knife is balanced better than the Global, and significantly sharper than similar knives from Wusthof and Henckels. There is also a Shun Stainless bird's beak knife, with the only difference being the stainless steel handle. Although not every kitchen absolutely needs a bird's beak knife, I highly recommend this one for those that do want one for peeling tough vegetables such as turnips and for specialized decorative garnishing.the bottom of the blade is to pointy near the bolster & you can cut your self real easy .I like all my other knives very much . They hold an edge for a very long time.

The bird's beak knife is often overlooked. I've never seen one included in a knife block set. Yet it has great utility and some unique properties. It's great for taking the stem portion out of tomatoes, strawberries, etc. It's also great for cutting perfect supremes from citrus. This is as close to perfection as I have seen in a bird's-beak knife in more than three decades of professional and home cooking. It is wickedly sharp right out of the box. I mean sharp as a razor. If your knife skills are limited, be careful. The shape of the handle is Shun's idea of perfection and I must admit it works well, especially for a right-hander. The handle is longer than most, an advantage for both balance and control.Maintaining the edge of a curved blade like this takes a bit of skill. If you aren't entirely sure of yourself, ask a more experienced friend to show you how to do so. It would be a tragedy to damage the fine edge of this little work of art.
The downside? Like all Shun knives, it is insanely expensive. Still, you get what you pay for so go for it.

I work with fish and other seafood all day long, and I've been looking for a good, flexible knife to fillet and skin fish with, to no avail...every knife I've had has either been too light, or not sharp enough...Needless to say, I've found my knife...it is a godsend to anyone who works with fish, chicken, meats...the blade is flexible enough to make skinning fish like salmon, halibut, haddock, snapper, etc. an absolute breeze, but stiff enough to make boning chicken & other meats very very easy!
I do recommend only handwashing this knife, however...it says dishwasher safe, but I wouldn't risk the high-heat of the wash cycle...
All in all, a GREAT addition to ANYONE'S kitchen.We bought this knife to trim tenderloin, after being inspired by a televised cooking show. This was my first investment in a really good knife and I had a hard time believing that it would be worth the price. Once the knife arrived, I became a believer. This knife has great weight, balance, and a fantastic blade for meat (just enough flexibility to trim bits of fat and gristle without cutting into the good meat). It was worth every penny.
It's really amazing how much easier it is to work with a good professional knife. We later got a (not quite as expensive) set of Henckels and, although they are good, they are not quite as nice as this particular model. This Pro S series has a better handle and a nicer weight. If you need a good boning knife, this is the one to get.

This is the knife that most cutlery sets leave out (oh, and the Santoku as well), and I highly recommend getting one. It really makes deboning so much easierespecially on chickens and turkeys. I deboned a turkey in no time, especially appreciating the extreme sharpness and flexibility of the blade.I have a mix of Wusthof Classic and Grand Prix knives, but settled on this to 'match' my Classics. There's no difference between the Pro S and Wusthof Classic in terms of performance, but I preferred the lower price tag and shorter length to its Wusthof analogue.Whenever you buy Henckels Pro S knives you know you are getting the very best. They have other types (Four Star, Five Star, etc.) but the the Pro S handle stands out simply due to the construction of the handle, the only one that is a harder type of poly PLUS the handles are RIVITED, giving it a toughness second to none. The Five Star knives have the same good knife edge (don't get the Four Star...the edge isn't as good and doesn't hone as well) but lack the rivited handle as the Pro S. True, the Five Star is more "ergonomic" in handle shape, so if that is what you are after, go for it. But I don't see THAT much difference...I want the rivits!
I have tried the other names and Henckles beats them all so don't try to save a few bucks.
As for this particular knife, if you can only spend the money for ONE good utility knife, go for this knife. I use it for paring as well as for all other kinds of uses except for things that require a chefs knife or cleaver...it isn't only for boning and filleting. In fact, I don't think I have ever boned with it, (I own three of them since my husband and I both cook together and we are always fighting over who is going to get this little knife, so here I go getting another one. Hopefully the fighting will stop now!
You should always invest in the Henckles honing/sharpening stone when you buy your first Henckels knife...DON'T EVER GET ANY OTHER STONE...they are totally inferior, trust me. And don't get fooled into buying any other device for honing either.
When you first receive your stone and knife, give the knife a few long strokes (both sides) on the stone to get it at top performance from the start, wipe with a clean, damp cloth, dry and you are on your way.
...Get this knife and you will NEVER look back...or purchase any other type of kitchen knife again. I would rather have one of these than ten of any other brand names.

Wusthof Culinar 6-Inch Sandwich Knife
Some people might note that you don't really need this particular size and shape knife. If you have an 8" chef's knife, a paring knife, maybe a long carver and a bread knife, you can pretty much do anything. However, to my mind, that is irrelevant to judging the quality of the tool. The Culinar knives are beautiful, superbly balanced, and, in my experience, take a great edge.This knife is perfect for making a sandwich, carving a modest sized roast, doing many of the things a boning knife would do. Slice a tomato? Done. Cut raw meat for serving size, or for a recipe? No problem. And, with the nearly seamless stainless handle, it's easy to clean to prevent contamination.
I like this knife. I don't use it as often as my chef's knives, or my paring knife, but it is a useful tool, and I'm glad it's in my collection. Additionally, I have read some reviews from people who complained that they had Wusthof knives that were dull, didn't sharpen, or wouldn't hold and edge. This amazes me, and is not at all my experience with their fine products.
F. Dick 12" Chef's Knife Professional Grade - Forged Steel
I have owned one of these knives (as well as many other F. Dick knives) for well over 35 years. I used it in my restaurant and continue to use it at home since my retirement.F. Dick knives used to be available only to professionals; now they are available to all. I prefer it to other brands (Henckels, Sabatier, Wusthof, etc.) because of its balance and blade shape (slightly less rounded than the others) which works better for my cutting style. If I lost it, I would replace it with the same knife.
A word to the wise: As this knife has a laminated wood handle, wipe it down and dry it IMMEDIATELY after you are done using it. Never allow the handle to remain wet; it will de-laminate if you aren't careful. If you follow that simple rule and keep it sharp, you, too will have it for 35 years.
J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Synergy 13-Piece Knife Block Set
This was a gift from our wedding registry. And I did read the less than impressive reviews of the set and yet decided to go with it 1) because of the price, (2) these received the relatively better reviews for a Henckels set (3) one-piece stamped steel construction. My husband was in the restaurant suply business for 7 years, and he is no fan of the Henckels International line but I succumbed to the draw of the little man (in the co. logo) without whom, I believe for the moment, no kitchen is complete. Since we received them, even my skeptical husband has gotten fond of them. They are not 'cheap looking', 'prone to rusting' (with proper knife handling, of course), 'thin blade'd, as some have opined here. We don't have a grand chef's kitchen operation running at our house and for us, these are great. With low to moderate use, regular hand cleaning and wiping down, they are still like new. They feel just right in terms of weight and look great. We have an extra pair of henckels kitchen shears that we were able to put in the block that had a compartment for it.UPDATE: Nov 26, 2012: Just wanted to report back that our knives are still going strong. No rust. No dullness that the (included) sharpening steel doesn't address.I was looking for a set of good quality knives as I am upgrading my kitchen equipment and I ran across these in Dillards Dept store. The knives were on sale so I was not sure about them. I was familiar with the brand but didn't know much. I purchased them and they are wonderful! The Chef's knife won't disappoint and I was upset that I had not gotten a set of good knives before it would make my cooking life so much easier. The knives look pretty too with my stainless steel. First off before you go off and buy this knife set you have to realize this is the cheap version of the J.A. Henckels....hence the International. Although Amazon description says High Grade German Steel it is not. These knifes are made in China.Some reviews here people complain of rusting ect. Now these knifes might indeed rust, but some care must be taken with them. I have had mine over 1 year now, and they have held up perfectly. I cant complain. I have taken good care of my knifes. They dont go in the dish washer, they dont stay wet very long soaking in the sink. I use them, wash and dry them and keep them sharp. The are still a very sharp
I have used and held the high end Henckels and these are a far cry from them...but so is the price. You will pay $300 or more. Twin Cuisine is a very very nice set, feels heavy and solid. The Fine edge synergy are light and thin, almost feel like they might break. Not a knife you want to take with you to a knife fight. However for the price they cant be beat. If your looking for Henckles high quality knifes go spend the extra money and dont get the International version. If your looking for a cheap good knife set that will last a long time with extra care, you cant go wrong with this set.
I dont regret ever buying this set however next time I will get a set like the Twin Cuisine's.

It does okay, so it's what I use while I wait for someone to make the perfect one (i.e., an all-metal version of the Kuhn Easy-Clean). On the plus side, it's solid metal and feels like nothing is going to go wrong with it, ever. I bought mine about 6 years ago. It is extremely durable. Two solid pieces of metal connected by a durable hinge. The plastic handles are removable to allow for ease of cleaning.There is space for one large clove, or two smaller ones.
A bit of force is necessary to force the garlic through this press.

Although I miss my Pulltap and it's two-stage goodness, I cannot deny the awesomeness of the Boomerang. I'm a waiter, and cutting the foil with a second-rate blade was always difficult and embarrassing. The built-in foil cutter is so easy to use, and the bottle looks very professional and appealing sitting on the edge of a customer's table.One thing I should warn of: You will be unable to remove the foil all the way down below the protrusion of the glass lip. While this doesn't affect your ability to remove the cork, wine's flavor changes drastically when it reacts with certain types of metals present in some foil. So, remember to wipe the lip with each pour so that any drops of wine sitting on the foil never make it to the glass.This is a great improvement on the traditional cork screw with knife. I love the built in foil cutter that even the 'rabbit' and other fancier handle operated twin turbo cork screws are missing. It is faster and easier to open this way vs having multiple tools. I first saw one of these at a restaurant in France, so that has to make it a better tool. Found 1 in Aix en Provence at a wine store and used it for years until the handle broke (probably user error). Then I wanted another one, and this is made by the same manufacturer.
I would recommend this as a gift for any wine enthusiast as I prefer the simplicity of it vs the 4 handled gigantic robo-openers. Open the foil cutter spin and pull and then uncork. Safer than using a knife and cutting off a finger. You cannot lose the foil cutter either.

This corkscrew is fantastic. I have used a waiter's corkscrew for ages, but hate trying to cut wine capsules by blade. The boomerang is large for a waiter's corkscrew approximately half an inch longer than my old one, and about a centimeter wider. It works very well, but the lack of a double hinge is disappointing. Though outweighed by the brilliant retractable foil cutter, both of these flaws, along with the following point, make the corkscrew rate 4 stars instead of 5. The foil cutter unfortunately does not cut below the lip (see attached picture) but it is still wonderful. It makes a smooth, perfect cut in one easy motion. The ingenious sliding pivot point with two-step leverage works better than my other double-hinged openers. Apparently some of the other reviewers here never figured out how to use it. First I was very surprised, when I first time have seen the steak knives in a three star michelin restaurant in Alsace in France. They have no serration. They were extremely sharp. So I asked the chef, Mr. Westermann, why they are like this. And he explainded. They have no serration, so you can easy resharpen them by yourself. This way you always have the sharpest steak knife. If you resharpen them ;-)I do it very easy frequently with a stone.

I'm not a fan of ceramic blades because they are prone to chipping and honestly; a high quality knife with a high carbon blade is sharper. The problem there is you have to sharpen it and I'm not going to keep honing stones at work where they're likely to get lost or damaged.The knife is very sharp and you should use the cutting board to protect the blade as well as your work surface. It's very light overall so it's not well balanced. But, it's a task knife. Ergonomics are not crucial for this kind of cutting. The handle feels like a rubber / silicone composite. It remains fairly tacky when dry but if juice or wetness hit the handle, it gets slick.
The sheath is cheap but it does the job protecting the user from accidentally slicing the Hell out of himself if it's stored haphazardly in a drawer. My one significant complaint is the blade color. It's matte white and unlike steel or anodized blades, you can not distinguish the slicing side since it doesn't shine. If you left this knife lying out an adult will think it's plastic and probably lacerate themselves if they mishandle it.
I'm happy with the quality, especially given the price. There's room for improvements but they are based on my personal preferences more then any detraction of the product.

If you cook a lot, and large amounts, if you use onion and herbs with most cooking, then this tool is a must have for you. I have been looking for double bladed Mezzaluna just like the one I grew up with for years, and I did not hesitate to buy this one when I saw it on Amazon. The positive reviews and my Wusthof knives encouraged me to choose this particular one. It is perfect size. This knife is sharp. Cannot believe how good it is for the price. We use it all the time and have not needed to sharpen it yet. It's light, so if you like a knife that feels heavier in your hand, this is not it, but for the price you cannot beat it.Had 2 KIWI knives and was excited to find more. I'm a professional chef and ordered the KIWI Knife after a co-worker recommended it to me. I've worked with Global, MAC and Wusthof before and was skeptical about the $10 price tag. The knife is lightweight and flexible. It came razor sharp and after a week of hard use still has its edge. Even better, I ran it across my waterstone a few times and it was like new. It's not a "SUV" utility knife like most German brands, but rather a "Sports-Car," as it is extremely useful for intricate and precision cuts on stuff like herbs, shallots and fruit. For the price, you really can't beat it. I've yet to find another knife this cheap that actually has an edge and isn't junk after a day. I recommend it and just ordered the 4" paring knife. WORKS GREAT FOR PASTA WHILE LEAVING THE WATER TO ADD TO THE FINAL DISH FOR MORE FLAVOR.
