I own several bamboo boards of various sizes and shapes. My favorite go-to board was one exactly this shape and size, but it was 3-4 times thicker. It was a lovely board, but, sadly, I accidentally burned it on the hot stove. This is the item I bought as a replacement and actually it is even better than the original. I learned with the other one that they sometimes slide around a little as one cuts, but placing a damp towel beneath it for friction solves that issue. The elongated shape gives room for various items to be chopped and yet stay separate.
It's a pretty board that stays on display on my counter, so I do oil it fairly frequently with Totally Bamboo Oil. (Regular mineral oil from the corner drug store seems to go on heavier and gets sticky more easily than smooth.) Of course, I don't wash it in the dishwasher, but do wash it frequently with hot soapy water, thus the need for oil, which I add monthly.
Guess it's the size and weight, though, that I appreciate the most. Food is heavy and awkward enough without adding a bunch of unnecessary pounds to lug around. It is used at least once or twice a day in my kitchen much more if I'm doing entertaining, because it easily doubles as a cheese board, or other serving tray. I also have the two smaller boards that come as a pair, and they're fine, but this one is the star.
I've never had a board from Totally Bamboo split or break.
I highly recommend it and can't see why anyone would be unhappy with it especially at the low price.
