This is an exceptionally beautiful, well made block with cleanly laid slots. It's best for your shorter Wustoff (6-8" chef and bread knives)and is a bit slimmer than my last block, which is a plus. The depth is also a little short for more than a 8-10" sharpening steel.
It's a lightly finished medium to dark acacia. It appears to be an easy to clean and long lasting finish, which may need to be maintained with walnut oil in five years or so if the finish fades. Just don't put mineral oil or "cleaners" on it (or any woods) and it should be fine for a long time IM(NS)HO.
The variegation in color on the acacia block allows for setting beautifully with a variety of accessories on a variety of countertops from black pearl to blue, brown, pink to nearly white granite, slate, marble, concrete, tile and glass. It just glows. Looks good with the Classic set and the Blackwood Classic Ikon. Not as great with the plain steel Culinar but still good. If you prefer your own special selection of knives rather than the basics you find in most sets, this is a fair price for the block. I've paired it with Kunihiro (see their website) of various glazes and Pacific Merchants Acacia trays which you can find here on Amazon. It looks good everywhere and performs nicely so far, no shredding edges from hastily pulled knives.
