ZX Kitchen Black Ceramic Knives Prep Set - 6" Chef, 5" Utility, and 3.5" Paring Knives

ZX Kitchen Black Ceramic Knives Prep Set - 6' Chef, 5' Utility, and 3.5' Paring KnivesThese knives are as sharp as they are good to look at. The handles are very comfortable and even grippy, they cut boneless meat and veggies like they were softened butter! If you want a very sharp, easy to handle knife, then look no further, a great compliment to my Kyrocera 5 1/2" Santoku, 7"professional chef, and 6" Nakiri. They all fit perfectly in my new Kapoosh Universal Rod Knife Block. I even have the steak knife set, all in black, and they all fit into the block perfectly, and look brilliant on my counter next to my stove!

I've been wanting a set of ceramic knives for a while now. I bought this ZX Kitchen set after reading a review on about.com from Mariette Mifflin. I was hoping to be impressed but instead find myself completely disappointed.

These knives are not sharp. Maybe in the Cutco sense of the word "sharp" where sawing motion somehow equates to a knive's razor-sharp cutting ability. These knives feel light and cheaply made. They perform equal to the way they feel in your hand.

Here are some tests I've done:

First was with some tomatoes. Each of the knives in this set had trouble breaking the skin while my 8" Victorinox and the pride & joy of my cutlery 10" Messermeister both sliced through the tomatoes like butter. The next test was with lemongrass. Each of the ZX Kitchen knives tore through the stems leaving splintered ends where again both the Victorinox and Messermeister did actual slicing. Final test: apples. I was sure the ZX Kitchen knives would get a passing grade with these but once again I was left disappointed. The ceramic knives had trouble breaking the skin of the apple.

Messermeister San Moritz Elite 10-Inch Chefs Knife

Victorinox Swiss Army 8-Inch Fibrox Straight Edge Chef's Knife

Sharp knives slice and dice while dull knives smash and tear. These are dull knives and would be overpriced at even $80 less considering how poorly they perform. I'm going to attempt to return them to get some ceramics from either Victorinox or Kyocera.
