Epicurean Big Block Series Thick Cutting Board with Cascade Effect

I brought a black Epicurean cutting board and loved it so much that I went back and brought 2 more. Then one day, while cutting meat,I noticed black particles on my knife. When I checked my meat, it had black particles too. It turns out that it came from the cutting board! After consistent repeat incidents of this, I had to throw all 3 boards away because I wasn't sure what was getting into my food when I cut. Very expensive lesson since these aren't exactly cheap.

I got this board to replace some rather beat-up ones I had in my house...plus, I was upgrading to new knives so I wanted to have a fresh cutting board.

This board is HUGE...and I love it. It is thick and when a blade hits it, it's almost absorbed...without even leaving a mark. I wouldn't recommend any other cutting board, be it wood or plastic...this epicurean looks great on your counter and my new Shun knives get along great with it.

Highly recommended...would look no further if you want a great cutting board that is knife friendly!

Update 3/24/2012: This board is amazing...period...I would never consider buying anything else. Period!

based on the earlier comment about packaging I was a bit worried. But for the price I was willing to try. Amazon sells this for half of anyone else.

Anyway, my board arrived double boxed so I didn't have the packaging issues with this item. Perhaps they fixed how they ship it.

Anyway, this is a big substantial cutting board and we are happy to have it on our counter 24 x 7. It gets used every day.

This is a great cutting board. Not cheap; but large, very practical and won't mold like wood will, doesn't need conditioning like wood does, and is dishwasher safe (which wood isn't).

I saw a TV chef using one of these and really wanted to replace my large molding wood block with it.

Unfortunately, I tried *twice* to order it from amazon and inexplicably (and very un-amazon-like) they're just tossing it loose in a cardboard box with no padding or those inflatable things they normally use. As a result, the corners on this (it's big and heavy, and the UPS guys undoubtedly just toss it into the truck) were broken off on both. So, both back went. Amazon handled the return as well as you can handle it--but I really wanted the item safe and unbroken. I don't see any reason that if I ordered 10 of these all 10 wouldn't be broken if this is how they're shipping them.

Maybe I'll monitor the item and see if others say they changed the shipping method.
