My relatives have used these knives for decades. I tried them and loved them so bought the ivory pack on Amazon. We have used Shun, Global, Kai, Wusthof, etc. But unless you want the fancy look, there is no need to buy an expensive serrated knife for tomatoes, toast, etc. These knives and my Shun paring knife are the ones I always reach for in the kitchen. I even stick them in the dishwasher (top shelf) and they are fine. For a casual dinner, I would put these on the table for guests (but if you're having a very formal dinner, I'd go with wood knives). Surprisingly I haven't seen the plastic handles break.
