Lansky 2 Rod Gourmet Kitchen Knife Sharpener

I read some reviews at other vendor sites so I had a good idea of what to expect. I actually bought the product just for the medium rods. I have a 15-year-old model with fine rods that's been 5-stars great. Still is. This new model isn't built badly but quality has slipped a little compared to the older model. The rods are not held quite as snuggly in the bottom of the base when the sharpener is not in use. The rods themselves do not have a nicely rounded contour at either end like the older fine rods. As long as you're careful, that's not a problem. The rods do fit as snuggly in the top of the sharpener as they do in the older model. Both sets of angles available are slightly more obtuse than the angles on the old model. For "gourmet" kitchen knives, the wider angle is appropriate. The wood is solid and the guard seems functional. Given the other reviews I read, the whole package is actually a little better than I thought it would be. I would recommend this item.

My husband really likes this knife sharpening tool. He had one before and the rods were broken so was delighted with this.

This sharpener has 2 angles for proper knife sharpening. I use it like a steel to correct the edge before any major carving. Also use it for monthly touch-ups to the paring and utility knives that are used daily. Solidly built and includes the hand protector to stop fools like me from slicing the tendon in my left middle finger (it happened using an unprotected sharpener). Could include storage holes for the sticks but am still giving it 5 stars for overall quality.
