At least I'm assuming that's the reason the poly layer that has the birds on it came off (it was glued to the back side). If you're willing to hand wash, this is a pretty board that should last a long time. I washed mine regularly in the dishwasher though, and it only lasted about two years before the little rubber feet and bird picture came off.
