Totally Bamboo Extra Large Greenlight Cutting Board

This is a nice board for cutting, and it's the perfect size, but it has a few issues. I have Formica counter tops, and I could not use this board directly on the counter top without it sliding and spinning around. I solved this by putting a place mat under the board, and now it works pretty well.

The other main drawback is that it warps easily. Even though it is dishwasher safe, I hand wash it. I was oiling it about every third time I washed it, but that didn't seem to be enough. It warped so bad that it didn't even work on the place mat. So I started oiling it every time I wash it, and the shape came back, but, yeah I have to oil it every time. This means that I use it less than I'd like because of the maintenance...

This is a very beautiful, light yet sturdy, well-made board. However, the main reason I went ahead with the purchase, despite the annoying design feature of that hole (who hangs up cutting boards?), is because the dimensions are listed as 20.5" x 14.5". The product that arrived is only 19.5" x 13.5". That may not seem like a big deal, but I have limited counter space so need to use the cutting board on top of my sink, and it does not fit. It was bought as a replacement for a 20 x 14 board, natch. As lovely and eco-friendly as it is, for $40 I need those extra square inches and for it to be true to its advertising. I'm returning it for something larger, and unfortunately, probably bulkier and not bamboo. Sorry, Mother Earth.

I was impressed by the quality of this cutting board. It looks like a piece of furniture! I don't know that I would put it in the dishwasher though like it recommends. I used mineral oil to treat the board right out of the box as it was very dry. The ingredient in that expensive bamboo oil is nothing but mineral oil, FYI. I also like the fact that it covers a large portion of my counter top since my cutting goes all over the place. A dishrag or paper towel under the board while cutting prevents slipping. There are no stoppers on the board because you want to flip it over and use both sides. Bamboo is great stuff and environmentally healthy.
