We've had Komachi knives for several years now and love them, especially the bread knife (the best we have ever used, as I wrote in an earlier review of it.) They were still sharp, but I did have them re-sharpened for free this past summer by the Kershaw factory in Tualatin, Oregon, since I wanted my Shun knives sharpened there as well. They ship back for free, too. Just be careful with Komachi anytime really sharp knives! The warehouse price for this set is unbelievable, but true! We couldn't help but buy it for the pieces we didn't have and the rest to give away. By the way, when trying to open this set, flip the set over and cut the plastic casing on the back it's softer and easier than the safety plastic on the front.I received these as a Christmas Gift in 2011. I already have a full set of good (re:$$$) knives (which were used every day) and was very unhappy with the initial heft and look of these knives. I eschewed them in favor of my good old ($$$) knives....I felt like the Komachies were almost a child's toy with the colors and light weight. One day my husband reached into the sink and the big blue knife was sitting in bottom. He barely touched it and sliced his hand. I was AMAZED!!! (Of course I helped him bandage up and no lasting harm done.) After this, I took another look at the knives...I started using the big blue one for all sorts of slicing....after a week or two I started to notice that I was prefering the lightweight and colorful knife for most slicing. Then I started to use the the green pairing knife....and then....and then... and within two months I noticed that my ($$$) knives were pushed WAY back in the knife drawer and I was keeping these in the counter top rack.
In short: after using these for about six months on a daily basis I am very very impressed. The blades have stayed sharp. I like the non-slip handles and bright color as they are easy to identify in my busy kitchen.
There is only one thing that I could wish for which is a slightly more flexible blade on the pointy knives...I like to use my knives by touch in a given item (meat or veggies usually) and a more flexible blade is easier when separating complicated things....scraping pith or ribs or some such from a red pepper for example. I suspect the keeness of the edge would suffer with a more flexible blade though, so overall I am very pleased with the knives and am not going back to my old ones.

Last summer a warehouse store offered this set at a price I couldn't walk away from. These are my favorite knives and I use them for everthing. They are very sharp compared to my high quality stainless steel knives. In fact, the first time I washed the paring knife I attempted to wash it with my fingers as I oten did with my stainless knives. I cut my finger because I didn't feel the blade slice my skin. Then I saw the blood. Needless to say, I don't use my fingers to wash these knives any more.
I recommend that you try at least one Komachi knife and see what you think.I love these knives. I bought a set for myself for Christmas and the cut through meat, fruit, bread and anything else I have tried like butter. They make short work of any cutting job I need done and gives my kitchen a splash of color. They work so well that I bought another set for my dad and he loves them as well.
