Striped Ulu Chopping Bowl with Ulu Knife with Etched Handle

Can't recommend this item. We had a real ulu with a deep curved bowl chopping block and the bowl cracked after 10 years. We went to replace it with another and we ordered this one -it's a cheap knock off on what is a great product (and has become a kitchen necessity in our household). The quality of this particular item is very poor (item is manufactured in China, although it says "Alaskan" on it), the wood is rough and soft (easily dented), the chopping board is very shallow (maybe an inch), not at all the deep bowl that it should be -shop elsewhere, get a good quality Alaska ulu made to last.

And I'm not ashamed to say I did. I wanted an ulu knife and depressed cutting board, not a souvenir from a state that I haven't seen in 15 years. And I didn't want to pay some ridiculously inflated price for something that should be pretty simple. So this was my compromise. The blade is sharp, the handle feels good against the heel of the hand, and the cutting board is the perfect size for what I use it for most: garlic and fresh herbs. Of all the options I compared, this one had the best price + cutting board size + handle shape + least amount of sanding to remove superfluous graphics. Designed in Alaska, manufactured in China, but not to any detriment that I can surmise. The Alaskan designers would probably sell a lot more of these if they skipped the souvenir graphics and distributed them to kitchen supply stores. It's a great addition to a foodie's kitchen, and there's no need to spend $30 on something similar.
