Over the past couple of months, I've found that these knives, for what they're worth, are very reliable. Thay can hold an edge pretty well but first they should be sharpened on a stone, as with first aquiring any knife for heavy use. Now these knives are very light, which can be a gripe for most cooks out there in the industry, but they have a very nice grip and balance, particularly the Chef's knife. The steel that comes with the kit can disasemble fairly easily so I'd recommend getting another steel for use with this set. The kit itself is made with cheap, but suprisingly durable material as it survived heavy use over the course of three months before I had gotten another knife kit. Although it's durable, the kit can only be used with the knives that are included, meaning that there's no room for that new 6 in. santoku you've always wanted. At the end of the day, these knives are as reliable as those high end knives with the proper care and sharpening.
