The first thing you need to know about this is that this "six piece set" consists of ONE (1) steak knife, ONE (1) fork, and ONE (1) plastic sheath for the knife. The knife is VERY nice! I haven't tried it out yet, but it seems excellent. The handle is a rubbery kind of plastic with hard plastic insets for the name of the manufacturer, the butt end of the hilt, and the area right next to the blade. It's the kind of plastic that gives you a good, no-slip grip, which is perfect for this knife. I ordered the purple, and it's closer to a navy blue, but does lean a little toward purple. The sheath is the same harder plastic from the hilt of the knife. I do like the sheath, and it's a great safety feature for a knife that's sharp enough to be called a steak knife.
The fork has a similar handle, with a metal fork part that looks and feels like it was stamped out of stainless stock. It's got a satin finish and the edges are not quite sharp, but feel sort of unfinished. I don't feel that the fork's quality is quite up to the finish of the knife.
I feel, that the way this was advertised, I should have gotten TWO of these sets in order to have gotten a "six piece set." The description should be rewritten for accuracy.
I like the quality of the knife, and it alone would have gotten five stars. I like that it comes with a sheath. A LOT! I think the idea of a fork to go with it is a nice touch, but would like to see something with a metal part that looks more finished and less stamped out and left that way. The handle on the fork is very nice, the same quality as the hilt on the knife, but a slightly different design. The main reason for the low rating is because I was promised in the description, two of these sets, not one. I feel slightly cheated.
I bought this set for about $11 at Amazon (who said this was a 6 piece set), but if you go to Home Depot's site, they have the same thing correctly labeled as a steak knife, sheath, and fork for $7. Check around. I like it enough to buy another one or two, but I'll go to a Home Depot store for it, not Amazon.
