Boska Holland Geneva Collection Beech Wood Cheese Curler

I had seen these advertised, and thought for sure that I'd never spend the money for one. It looked like another kitchen gadget that would be fun for a while and then end up collecting dust in the corner, a fru-fru toy for occasional party cooks. Then I received one, compliments of Boska Holland and Culture Magazine, and it changed my mind. The beechwood base is handsome and sturdy, and it seems well-engineered with bumpers to keep it steady and tabs to hold the cheese. I was a little surprised to find the knob on the knife is plastic, but no worries, so far it's working fine! It's fun to use, easy to clean, and as long as the cheese is the right size and texture, it makes really pretty rosettes. They're nice as garnishes and appetizers, and fabulous floating melting on creamy soup. Unrolled rosettes become lovely ultra-thin rippled slices that melt wonderfully translucent. I can't wait to use this to make chocolate curls. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys making beautiful food.

I received this along with a wheel of Tete de Moine from Culture Magazine to try. The curler is easy to assemble, the cheese fits onto the curler with no trouble, something I was a little nervous about. It works well, making thin ruffles of cheese. It will be a great addition for a party. Also, if you want to make grilled cheese sandwiches, using the curler will make cheese curls that will melt easily your sandwich. Now that cooler weather is coming I'll definitely use it for entertaining.

The product was great at first, but after just a couple of cleanings, carefully following the manufacturer's instructions, the wood base warped. The product now wobbles each time I attempt to use it! Very disappointed indeed!
