I generally don't like all the "new-fangled" gadgets and household items (Usually cheaply made, brightly colored plastic, made in ????) that are supposed to make life easier. They sound good at first but usually don't deliver. But after 2 months, I'm still happy with my new knife block. Every time I reach for a knife, I think to myself, "Yes!"
If you're happy with your wooden knife block by all means keep it. But if you don't already have one and you're looking to purchase one, consider the Scanpan version.I do wish it was a little higher to hold my longest knives, but it does the job with grace.

I purchased this to fit on my counter to hold a set of Komachi knives I bought at Costco they are colorful and fun. This is a slim black block that is a rubber material and is angled at the top. The other version I looked at was the Bodum knife block, but it is not angled and had some reviewer comments related to this. This is also about 1/2 the size of my old wooden knife block.I bought new knives last week and just assumed they would fit in my old wooden block..... wrong. After searching for a new block I came across this. At first look I though, cool, a colored knife block. I mean, who doesn't need a lime green knife block in their kitchen? Then, I saw the price. It looked so small and it said it only fits 8 knives. I was concerned I wouldn't get my money's worth. After careful consideration, I gave in and decided to order it. I am so happy with this purchase! This thing is really slim and sturdy. I have limited counter space so it's a perfect fit. I know it says it holds 8 knives, but I have 18 sitting comfortably in this thing! I can understand people's complaints that longer knives don't fit. My largest knife has an 8.5 inch blade. Anything bigger than that may be an issue. I am able to angle the blade to make it work. This knife block is much sleeker than the slotted style and will accommodate an endless variety of knives. I have 6 knives in the block, could probably fit a couple more. My 10" chef knife is almost too long. Even at an angle a bit of the blade sticks out, but that's only a minor complaint.
