Euro-Gourmet Chef's Envy Professional Food SlicerI bought this at my local Dillons (Kroger) after watching a demo. I went right home and tried it that night and it worked just like the demo. I have good knife skills and a professional set of knives, but it took a great deal of practice to become skilled. People that expect to be perfect the first time using this slicer, when they didn't have the impetus to acquire decent knife skills, or a good set of knives, are probably going to have dismal results using any cutting tool. This "drive-through, fast food" mentality that drives our nation is at fault here, not the tool.

I got this at a local Sears. They were doing a demonstration. I wondered, at the time, how many shills were standing there heh.

The very tippy top reason I got it was to make thin sliced cabbage. I like shredded (long thin slices) cabbage with onion, bell pepper, jalapeno and some seasoning fried up. So, with that in mind and the demonstration showing it should be possible I went ahead and got the contraption.

Love it! Works perfectly for the cabbage. It does a heck of a job on onions and tomatoes too. Also does jalapenos. And bell peppers.

Cleaning it is a pain. You need a brush to clean the cutting blades on the removable inserts. And the mandolin body itself will be easier to clean with a brush.

It is very light weight since it is plastic and a little thin metal but it doesn't seem flimsy to me at all.

I bought this at my local warehouse club after watching a demonstration that gave me hope once again in the kitchen. Of course, when I tried it, things didn't go quite as smoothly, but I still managed to get the slices I was looking for. Since I'm not that skilled with knives, I probably saved a finger or two when making au gratin potatoes. Though I'm still not using it probably to its full extent, this contraption does come in quite handy. And the more I use it, the less I'll need to refer back to the guide that came with it, explaining which slicing insert I should be using in any given situation. All in all, a good product, that may improve as I do.

Like most things you aquire you have to practice and get a feel for them. I purchased this at a local Kroger in Houston, TX and I must say I was a bit skeptical but I went on and made the purchase anyway. Well I am so glad I did. I tried it as soon as I got home and at first I had a hard time trying to get a potatoe through the blades but as I sliced a couple I began to get a the hang of it.

The young lady who gave the demonstration couldn't have been more than 130lbs and she was zipping through those slices so I know if she can get the hang of it I can too.

I purchased this slicer at a local grocery store over two years ago and it has been used on a daily basis ever since.

This was my first mandoline slicer and since it's fairly basic, I thought if this simple one works so well a fancier model might be even better.
