I'm glad I waited to find something other than Henckels and Wustoff both of which seemed too expensive for what you get. These knives are very high quality (made in Germany) and I'm sure they will be the last set I ever have to buy. I base this statement on comparison with the higher-end ($200+) Henckels/Wustoff. I would definitely make this purchase again and highly recommend this set.
... Now if I can just get my wife to stop throwing the knives in the drying rack with the silverware.I've worked in professional kitchens in the past and appreciate the need for quality knives, but I couldn't afford the cost. I've had my Berghoff's for a couple of years now and I'm continually impressed. They hold an edge well. They are lightweight enough to prevent fatigue, but heavy and solid enough to seemingly cut by themselves. Now that I'm back in the kitchen, I'm using them more than ever. Best kitchen investment I've ever made.

I got these knives as a gift.....I am a chef and have been looking for a cheaper but good quality knife set, and for the money it doesn't get any better than these....I own some henckel knives and these are as good if not better than those...they are very sharp and seem to hold an edge very well...So if you are a chef or just someone who loves to cook I recommend you get these as a great addition to your kitchen!!!Want Berghoff 12 Piece Chef Knife Kit Discount?
A few years back, I was given as a gift a kit of these knives and tools. Despite what's written partly in German on the blades in big red characters ("Berghoff Profiline", "Edelstahl" etc.), these are NOT professional tools. The metal is poor quality (even the heavy Cutlet cutting blade had an indent or two after I split a few cutlets), as another reviewer noted these knives come with absolutely unsharp knife-blades and the shape of the blade as well as the rough grain of the metal makes it impossible to sharpen the knives any decently.Judging also by the ridiculously poor quality of the attache-case they came in (it went to the bin right away), my conclusion is that these knives were probably made at very low cost somewhere in Asia and that there is nothing German in this product (the only Berghoff company present on the web is based in Belgium not sure if that's the one). So don't let commercial gimmicks fool you with a German name, German inscriptions on the kitchen tools etc. As these are just advertising techniques increasingly used nowadays for selling "stone pans", mechanics tools etc. allegedely of "German quality". It's all BS.
I have several other knives which are really professional tools (e.g. Zwilling, Lion Sabatier, Bargoin, Wüsthof etc.) and there is no comparison possible at all. A few swings on the sharpening stick and I can shave myself with them !!! Of course, they cost between 50 and 100 euro each. But one can make clean slices with these.
Bear in mind the following: with a good knife, one should be able to cut a ripe tomatoe into thin slices.
