I dearly love this knife!I started with the inexpensive but highly rated Victorinox Fibrox, but ended up being scared of using the knife because I just couldn't keep it stable despite holding it properly.
I tried this knife in a cooking class (KitchenOnFire) and fell in love immediately. This knife is very nicely balanced, with perfect heft, and it feels great in my hand. I'm not at all afraid of using it, and it performs flawlessly. It's really a joy to use.
I started with a Wüsthof 4" mini-chef's knife until I could afford the real thing. I still use that knife, but the handle cracked (no, of course I never put it in the dishwasher). I noticed the handle of the Messermeister isn't so sharp at the edges; it feels more "organic" if that makes any sense.
It really is a beautiful, thoughtfully designed knife. I'm so happy with this.

I bought this knife as a gift because I have used one just like it for years and its my favorite kitchen implement. Its very sturdy and holds its edge well despite all my abuse :-) This brand isn't one of the better known ones but it really should be as its quality is excellent!Great knife, feels good in the hand with a great weight to it (just right, not too heavy and certainly not too light as so many knives on the market seem to be). I have the 6" version, although to do it over, I'd get the 8" version. Blade has remained relatively sharp. In 3 years, I've had it sharpened only once. The only reason for a star knock-down to four from five is that the blade seems a bit fragile. I've got a pretty good nick near the top with a small indent in the blade itself. In comparison, the Chicago Cutlery 8" chefs knife I've got (handed down from my grandmother) isn't nearly as fragile of a blade and has lasted for over 30 years. All in all, a GREAT knife, especially for the price point.
