This knife does not meet the decription. It is stainless steel, and seems to have a full tang, but the blade is only "sharpened" at the edge with no angle to reinforce it. This is more closely compared to a hunk of metal with a handle. There is no layering to this metal and it will not be easily sharpened. Would make a better hammer. I tried it with a soft potato and the potato skin would not pierce without extreme force. I do not suggest buying this knife unless you have an electronic grinder and extensive sharpening equipment. When it came in the mail, I noticed right away how sharp it was. I took a sheet of paper out of my printer and the cleaver sliced through it with little difficulty. Of course the cut wasn't quite as slick as if I had used a sissors. Next I got out the tape measure: it is 11 1/4" long, with a 7" cutting edge. It has a comfortable rubber handle that absorbs impact blows when chopping. It tips my scale at 12 1/2 ozs. with the blade feeling heavier than the grip. There are about five rounded type serrations on the front of the back strap that can be used to tenderize meat. The blade is 1/8th inch thick. Of course, the blade is stainless steel, so rust will not be a big problem. It works great on vegetables, which I use it on every day. Also, it is perfect for seperating chicken leg quarters. I haven't used it on any larger meats, but it might be a bit small or lightweight if you were going to play butcher shop with it. Perfect for normal kitchen duties. It does dull up and needs to be sharpened from time to time, but hey, for the price and the fun I have while chopping with it, I'm happy! It is made in China, but the quality is very good.
