Hamilton Beach 74275 Chrome Classic Electric Knife with Case, Black

Hamilton Beach 74275 Chrome Classic Electric Knife with Case, BlackI shopped at many places and saw many electric knives before I decided to buy this set. I am so glad I waited to make my purchase. The knife is beautiful, and it makes a clean smooth cut. I am impressed with the quality for the price. I loved getting the matching serving fork as an extra in the set. I have used this knife on brisket, ribs, and a prime rib and I am totally satisfied. I highly recommend this set to any and all in need of a beautiful set that works.

We owned this knife for one day, then took it back.

The pros:

It's electric

The Cons:

I used it to carve a boneless cooked pork roast, turkey and pre-sliced ham. I didn't attempt to cut through bone or gristle.

Design: ergonomically poorly designed; poorly balanced, heavy in weight without being sturdy in performance or power; blades wobble even after being inserted properly and then reinserted just to make sure. The more you use it, the more they wobble.

Motor: Gives off a tremendous amount of heat making the unit almost difficult to hold; seems motor is underpowered.

On Button: If your hands get the least bit greasy it's very easy for your trigger finger and supporting fingers to slip dangerously close to the blades. I attribute this to the poor balance of the knife and poorly designed handle.

Recommendation: Don't buy this. Consider the Black & Decker slim line model, which I have owned in the past and intend to purchase again. My old B & D gave up the ghost after many years of service, primarily since I cut through some frozen desserts.

Although this knife looks good and cuts well, the trigger you pull when cutting is quite awkward and I found it difficut to cut any meat without feeling strain on my hand and arm. After carving a large roast I was exhausted! I don't recommend this product to anyone and threw it away.

Best looking knife that doesn't perform to suite me. Purchased as replacement for 15 year old knife worn out knife and saw a good review. Trigger is very awkward. If you have very large hands, you may like the size. It is good looking and has nice case but I do not reccomend for use.

I am a woman, and found this knife bulky to use, my arm was exhausted when cutting a roast. This knife has the knife release on the top, so when you are trying to cut, 1 finger is on the trigger, and your thumb fits right on top of the knife release, you had to think about moving your thumb away from that buttom, so it would not release while you are cutting. I may just throw it away and buy a more user friendly model.

Master Grade Electric Knife Sharpener

Master Grade Electric Knife SharpenerThis sharpener is very smooth and easy to use. It does a great job of sharpening my high grade kitchen knives. It is not inexpensive but it is also not "cheap".

After several years of faithful service my Chef's Choice knife sharpener bit the dust. I was going to buy another when I came across this model. I had read in one of my cooking magazines that the Chinese Food chef Martin Yan had launched a line of knife sharpeners. I always enjoyed his cooking show on PBS and thought that if a man could chop through a chicken that quickly he's got to know how to sharpen a knife! Well, I'm pleased to report that this sharpener does just that and with just a few passes of the knife unlike my old one. If money wasn't so tight right now I'd be giving these away as gifts but in the meantime I get to keep my knives nice and sharp. Now where's that chicken?

My daughter, the chef to be, thought this sharpener was a bit too aggresive, so she prefered to use steel rod on the knives during the preperation of our holiday meals. I have usedthese to bring back edge on my well used hunting knives, Buck, case, Gamakatsu, and Russel skinners. It has been fast and effective but can get too aggressive if you are not careful.

I've just bought one of these here in Australia under the Nirey brand name which is used in Europe and AU. They also cost considerably more here but it has been money well spent.

I have bought a few different sharpeners over the years and have usually had to resort to buying new knives as none of them have sharpened my knives like this one.

I bought it fron a kitchenware store who run a cooking school and they demostrated this model on some of the school knives before I purchased it. WOW what a difference! It took a bit of practice to get the technique right but now my collection of cheep knives are super sharp, probably better than they have ever been. Now I will happily invest in quality knives knowing I have a reliable method of sharpening them that can be done quickly and consistantly.

I've give 5 stars as it does what it says on the box but i'm sure if I had the time and inclination sharpening using wetstones would probably get better results

Farberware Pro Forged 5-Inch Chef's Knife, black handle

Farberware Pro Forged 5-Inch Chef's Knife, black handleI'm actually quite amazed at the quality of these "Pro Forged" knives from Farberware. I found the 8" version of the Chef knife on closeout in a discount store for $5, and got it just to have a beater knife to toss in the camping gear kitchen set. Now, I've got to admit that I'm something of a knife snob. My kitchen has a ridiculous number of knives including numerous examples from some of the finest German and Japanese manufacturers. I needed another chef knife like I need more clutter. But, this Chinese made cheap chef's knife sharpened up very well and seems to be made of a much higher quality steel than I've ever seen in a knife this cheap. The handle is big and squarish and it fits my large hands better than many of the pricier name-brand chef's knives in my collection. I'm very impressed.

This Farberware 5" chef's knife is just the right size and weight for general use in my kitchen. It retains it's sharp edge well and is easy to sharpen when it gets dull. It doesn't have the heft that a discontinued Farberware 5" chef's knife has, but is still one of a very few knives I reach for on a regular basis. The 5" length is long enough for most chopping jobs and not cumbersome like an 8" blade is. I'll probably buy another one as a gift!

I used five star Henckels for twenty years until my recent divorce. This is no Henckel, but it's sweet knife for the price. The balance isn't perfect, but it's pretty close. This is almost a real chef's knife for almost nothing. Not bad at all. An insane value for the price.

Farberware makes an outstanding "pro forged 6 inch chef's knife" with a sturdy black handle that's truly easy to hold onto; you never feel that you're going to accidentally let this knife slip out of your control. It just plain feels like it is well made and I hear from my friends that Farberware knives last practically forever.

This knife does indeed have a strong, full tang. It is quite sharp (be careful when handling this) and unlike another of the reviewers here I found it to be sharp enough for my uses on the very first try. Of course you can sharpen it if you want to make it even sharper; that's up to you. This knife makes it child's play to cut meat, skin off chicken (dietary restriction for me) and even small particles of fat within the meat of a steak or a piece of chicken so that you only get the meat--awesome!

I don't see why you couldn't wash this knife in a dishwasher; it certainly seems to be in every way dishwasher safe.

Overall, this is one low-maintenance extra sharp kitchen knife from Farberware and I highly recommend it. If you can, buy the knife on this website as the price I paid in a local store was three dollars more than the current advertised price!

Great job as usual, Farberware!

Arcos Maitre 6-Inch Utility Knife

Arcos Maitre 6-Inch Utility KnifeThis knife is excellent for its price range. Even if there are better knives for this kind of money out there, it would take you much more time and effort to find them than is worth it. For $12 this is a decent allaround knife. Why only "decent"? Read ahead.

First, the steel of the blade is not so great, it cannot be sharpened too well because of the large grain and its relatively soft. Also it means that it will have to be resharpened more often.

The design of the blade is not perfect eitherthe straight part is too short and its too thick, therefore when using it on vegetables such as potatoes, it does not perform perfectly. It still is much better than any cheapo knife, just bear in mind that you will have to slice rather than cut.

However, all of this is nitpicking. The bottom line is that this is a fantastic knife for this kind of money and with a bit of care, it will serve you for many years to come.

Standard Butter Dish(Colors May Vary)

Standard Butter Dish(Colors May Vary)This is a really great butter dish for those who want a very practical and well designed dish. The bottom, where the butter stick sits, has a slightly raised edge, or well, so the stick will not slide off the edge when you're using it. This would also help contain any melted butter, if you're one of those who likes to leave the butter stick out of the refrigerator a lot. The lid fits well, so you can pick it up by the lid and it won't come off. This dish easily fits in the compartment in our refrigerator door and the lid is frosted, so it's clear enough you can see the stick inside. Although it's not a dish that you would buy for its looks on the table, it's about the best I've seen for ease of use and doing the job it's made to do. It's a great value for the price and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good way to keep butter sticks under control!

So after moving from the Eastern U.S. to California, I was surprised to find that the butter is shaped differently out here. Back east, it's longer and thinner while the "western-style" sticks are shorter and stubbier. Strangely enough, most of the butter dishes I could find were still made for Eastern butter, not Western. I used to have one of these back home and bought a new one for the new butter and was happy to see that it works with both shapes. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it is sometimes hard to cut cleanly through the butter because of the height of the lip, but it does keep the container sealed well, even when dropped.

Norpro KLEVE 7 Inch Santoku Knife

Norpro KLEVE 7 Inch Santoku KnifeIt's sharp out of the box, but not literally "razor sharp" I guess I will try to sharpen it with a ceramic fine sharpener, to have the real "razor sharp"

X50CrMoV15 German steel. Very stain resistant. Other than that not much to speak of. The cryptic X50CrMoV15 stands for 0.5% carbon, the other 15% is composed of 14% or 14.5% of Cr, some Mo and V. I don't know who in German marketing came up with the idea to use X for Carbon, in periodic table it's C. 0.5% C content means, by definition X50CrMoV15 isn't a high carbon steel, despite of some marketing claims. In fact it has less C content compared to 440C steel. However, it's plenty tough and resists corrosion well. If you don't want to bother maintaining your knives this is a good choice. Except for the low edge holding ability of course. In the end, you end up sharpening it a lot more often, so low maintenance statement is really arguable. Used by Wusthof, Victorinix and others in their high end knives. Ref X50CrMoV15 Steel Composition.

HRC 55: Very hard steel (e.g. a higher quality knife blade): ( Hardened High Speed Carbon and Tool Steels such as M2, W2, O1, and D2, as well as many of the newer powder metallurgy Stainless Steels such as S30V, 154CM, CPM-M4, ZDP-189 , etc.

downside: made in China, but Hey, for the price and the German material, is not a big deal, as long as you sharpen it once received, for sharpening advise check

This knife is a complete pleasure to use. The santoku design works as advertised to keep food from sticking, but I mainly enjoy the quality and heft of this sturdy blade. Super sharp and nice handle. My next purchase will be the Surge Chef's Knife.

I bought a set of these advertised as full tang but they aren't. The steel extends about 1.5" into the plastic handle, which will break at that point. Lasted about a year for me. Nice steel, holds an edge then the handle breaks. JUNK.

I love this knife.[period]

I work with knives all day and night. This is a "best buy" for any person who wants a good knife... I have had this knife for three years. I have sharpened it only once. Between, beef bones, chicken bones, veal, pork, mutton and allot of vegetables, it comes out clean and sharp. Something about the Cro Vd steel just makes it a joy.

It's balance is better than any Global of the same type , and really does hold it's edge very well . The silicone gripe is actually better than most pro grips.

I'm saying buy this knife... after three years of use and abuse , I reach in the drawer and choose it every time. This knife is a great for anybody who cooks ...

p.s. I wrote this while buying one for my girl friend, she loved it so much that I had to buy another...

I bought a paring knife from Norpro based on the reasonable price and nice weight of the handle. Next tried the smaller Santoku which was wonderful. The grooves help the blade go through more smoothly. Many knives which are more expensive than this do not have good balance and feel. The weighting of the handle is perfect. I love all 3 of the KLEVE knives I have. After 6 months (and buy a magnetic hanging rack so they don't get dull in a drawer) they are all still sharp with no sharpening yet! Wonderful and very nicely priced!

Richardson Sheffield 5-Piece Gripi Knife Set with Wooden Block, Purple

Richardson Sheffield 5-Piece Gripi Knife Set with Wooden Block, PurpleNot only is the colour perfect for my kitchen but, unlike many decorative items, it's functional too. The knives cut beautifully.

They seem good quality, however expect better finishing knife handles. The purple color is a little pale in reality, because in the photos a more intense look. However they have good design in my opinion. There is also a curious detail, does not say where they were made, it would bother me much China as just ordered these because I think that Chinese products are often of poor quality.

Zwilling J. A. Henckels Miyabi 5000S Shotoh, Small Utility Knife

Zwilling J. A. Henckels Miyabi 5000S Shotoh, Small Utility KnifeThis is an absolutely gorgeous knife! The fit and finish is perfection, and the bevel grinding is also perfect, unlike, for example, the Henckels Twin Four Star line (not that the bevel is badly ground on those knives--it's just a little uneven from tip to heel and from side to side). The handle feels and looks incredible.

The Henckels Miyabi line comes in four flavors:

1. Simply practical (like this knife), the 5000S knives, which use the same German steel as the Four Star series. It's not a bad steel, but it definitely won't reach the same hardness as the steel in the 7000MC Simply Sharp line. The handle is also different, and instead of being made from linen-micarta and stainless steel is made from a completely water-proof material that seems quite similar to the Four Star line, but also seems finished to a higher degree of smoothness and polish. The upshot is that if you (or your spouse) forget this knife after use and leave it sitting on a cutting board stewing in tomato juice, it WILL NOT RUST. It will also be fine soaking in a sink full of water or in a dishwasher. Hence the "practical" name of this lineup.

2. Simply Sharp, (like the J.A. Henckels MIYABI 7000MC Shotoh Small Utility Knife ), the 7000MC knives, which use Cowry-X as the cutting steel (they don't call it this, but that's what it is), sandwiched in three layers of stainless steel for rust resistance, strength, and durability. These knives are HRC 66 and have the linen micarta and stainless steel handle. The handle is exactly the same geometry, it's just made of a different (and more expensive) material. You can't put these knives in the dishwasher and if you leave them sitting on a cutting board with water or food juice on their edge, they just may rust on you! If you go for one of these knives, you need to understand that it should be washed and dried more or less immediately after use. They CAN NOT be abused. The edge is very, very hard, and thus will be more prone to nicking and chipping if you toss this knife in with silverware or other knives or place it point down in a silverware drying basket (don't laugh--it's not funny--this actually happened to me while a relative was visiting--they put my newly sharpened 6 inch four star chefs knife point down with the silverware--glad it wasn't a Hattori KD or anything)

3. Simply Beautiful, (like the J.A. Henckels MIYABI 7000D Shotoh Small Utility Knife ), the 7000D knives, which use CMV60 steel wrapped in 32 layers of select stainless steel giving the knife a wonderful damask design. These use the same handle material as the 7000MC knives, are sharper than the 5000S, but presumably not as sharp as the 7000MC knives, but more rust resistant than them as well (I would guess). In any case, the point is, get these knives if you want the damask appearance.

4. And finally the professional line, which has a more limited selection of models and is heavier duty.

Now, what you should know right away about ALL of these knives, is that the handle is a traditional Japanese handle. It is designed to be used with only THREE FINGERS on it. Your index finger and thumb are expected to be in a pinch grip on the blade. Or, in some cases, your index finger is to be extended out onto the "Mine" (back of the blade near the handle). So, the issue is that you CAN NOT grab this knife comfortably with your whole hand in the "hammer" grip--the handle is just too short, by about 1/2 an inch. Just doesn't work for that grip. And the diameter of the handle is fairly small--think about the size of your index finger. Personally, I just couldn't get used to it and immediately returned this knife. But, for those people who LIKE the Japanese style knives, the Miyabi's are incredible and I would highly recommend them. They are a bit handle-heavy, I suspect, but this shouldn't be a deal breaker for most people--not at all! And they are just so beautiful. I love the steel end of the handle, which has a Japanese character engraved on it. I really came close to keeping this knife because of how beautiful it was, figuring that I would get used to the new handle and grip-style, but in the end figured that that just wasn't practical. So, I returned this and ordered the J.A. Henckels Twin Cermax M66 5-Inch Paring/Utility Knife instead, as it has a much larger, Western style handle, and yet has the blade length and shape I was looking for in an HRC 66 steel (which I'm a bit worried about as I'm not the only one who uses my knives--but I'll take the chance this time--and I'd recommend considering the 7000MC version of this knife if you think you can properly care for it. It's about twice as expensive, but Cowry-X is an amazing steel!)

Miyabi knives belong to best looking kitchen knives and when new are extremely sharp. There are two problems however. They tend to get rusty. Also the blade is too thin at the junction with the handle so the knives tend to bend .

One would certainly expect better quality from such super brand .

The beauty is unquestionable and sharpness superb.

Wusthof Gourmet 10-Piece Knife Block Set

Wusthof Gourmet 10-Piece Knife Block SetAfter purchasing this item, I realized there are different varieties of Wüsthof knives. The "Classic" and "Grand Prix" are made from forged steel, where as the "Gourmet" series is stamped from a sheet of steel. They look more cheaply made and while I'm sure they are good knives, it's worth your money to have one amazing knife, as opposed to 10 good knives. Thankfully the seller was great about accepting my return. Also of note: the shears were left out of the shipment, likely just a fluke, but make sure you count the pieces when your package arrives! Also, the knives arrived in a 17-slot block, not the 9-slot block mentioned in the description.

I was surprised at the quality of these knives for the price. I was not prepared to spend a rediculous amount of money on a knife set with a blade for every plausible occasion. This set has the perfect number of knives and each one feels natural in the hand.

Although this set comes with a sharpener, I recommend getting the Wüsthof 2904 Knife-Life knife and scissor sharpener. You will not need to sharpen these knives much, but that sharpener will make your life much easier and will renew every single pair of scissors in your house.

I also recommend, as others have, to never place these knives in the dishwasher. Also be sure to washt hem by hand and thoroughly dry them immediately after use. This will drastically increase their longevity.

If you purchase these, and I propose you do so, then get a travel roll bag for knives. This is because you will want to take them to friends' and family's homes to "show them off"!

We just got these knives for our wedding and were so excited to be the proud new owners of a set of Wusthof knives. What a disappointment we had when we pulled them from the box. These sheet-metal knives look like they'd snap at the very sight of a raw carrot. These knives bent easily, looked cheap and were immediately returned to their box. We plan to stick with Wusthof, but are going to return these and pay the extra for a good set of Classics or Culinars.

It's understandable that Wusthof (or any company) wants to provide products for entry-level buyers, and apparently this was the only way to reach this price point. But, after seeing these and reading a couple of reviews, it seems a waste of very good money for knives that don't look like they'll make it through the holidays, muchless years to come.

Save your money and invest in their forged steel!

My wife is the gourmet. She says these knives are superb. She also liked the particular variety of knives in this set. Too often, preselected sets have knives that simply aren't very useful for the home kitchen. This one makes a good starter set. We like to give knives as wedding gifts (for couples who like to cook) and this makes an excellent choice.

Have not used all of the knives yet, but the paring knives and the chef are both great. They are sharp and have a good feel to the hand. The only drawback I see so far is that the chef's knife could have a little more weight to it for hand control/feel when chopping food such as carrots, radishes, etc.

Messermeister Meridian Elite 8-Inch Kullenschliff Chefs Knife

Messermeister Meridian Elite 8-Inch Kullenschliff Chefs KnifeI cook a lot at home and I also have a food blog in which I write and post pictures of my cooking. My first knife was a Chinese chef's knife and I have been fond of it ever since. I wanted to try something different, something westernized. This was my first non-Chinese knife and I have to say the weight of the knife is quite comfortable. The weight is balanced from handle to steel end. The rivets on the knife keep things from sticking and it is a wonderful edition. I had to get used to not using the knife like a pastry scraper because it is too small to carry things into a plate, unlike the Chinese Chef Knife. The blade is a piece of art. Make sure not to machine wash this!!! No scrubbers, at least not to use the green side! I did notice that the knife isn't as sharp when cutting meats. The center of the knife seems to lose its sharpness quickly, but the end and the edge closer to the point are sharp as can be. I ordered the ceramic rod so I hope this will help keep the knife sharper a little longer. By the way, I did read reviews that the knife loses its sharpness rather quickly.

Oneida Satin Sand Dune 20-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4

Oneida Satin Sand Dune 20-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4I recently purchased a service for 8 from Amazon.com for a very reasonable price, only to find out that it was, in fact, 18/0 stainless steel prone to rusting and not the 18/8 rust-resistant stainless advertised! I then went to Bed Bath and Beyond and found their items were similarly mismarked! Furthermore, I checked with several Ebay vendors and they all stated that their postings were also accidentally misleading in labeling 18/0 sets as 18/8.

I did research as to the cause of the mixup and found out the following: Two-or-so years ago, Oneida reacted to the rising cost of nickel by making its lower-end lines (among them American Harmony, Sand Dune, and Satin Sand Dune) with no nickel (signified by the /0). Nickel adds rust resistance and luster to stainless steel, and I have read reviews that state that the new stuff is prone-to-rust.

Be careful when reading reviews from owners that were either posted more than two years ago or from owners who state they have had their set for more than two years, because the set they are describing is of much higher quality than that which they are currently selling under the same name! Shame on Oneida, and watch out when purchasing sets marked at 18/8!

For accurate information on the accurate current composition of this or any other set of flatware by Oneida, go to and look up the set by name.

Online outlets such as DiscountFlatware offer the discontinued (18/8) variants of these lines for about the same price, if you're willing to wait for shipments that usually take a little longer.

Happy Shopping!

The Sand Dune series is one of the most elegant flatware services available. Easily found in many retail stores, its success is perhaps due to the sweeping line inside the form of the handles that makes gripping easy and graceful, and the heft that's actually provided.

The weight provides a good lever for cutting (for the knives) and stabbing with the fork. This is not a series so light and hollow that the utensils will fly from a hand, or cause you to press with wrist and hand so hard as to cause ache. The utensils seem to help you move through a meal.

They are lovely at an elegant table, but also at home with your everyday dinners. I've purchased two 8-place settings for myself, plus found the serving utenils at a local outlet mall. The large serving spoons and serving forks (great with carving) are very hard to find and many places will not have them in any open stock. If you ever see the serving utensils, grab them.

My mother-in-law from Australia liked Sand Dune so much when she visited, she asked me to take her to purchase her own sets. She bought enough for 8 places and took them back to Australia.

Sand Dune has been one of my best table purchases.

Buy Oneida Satin Sand Dune 20-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4 Now

I purchased this service for 4 flatware set and also a service for 8 (with serving pieces) flatware set (both Satin Sand Dune) three months ago, so I could have a complete service for 12. Since my purchase, it appears that there has been some mix-up in Oneida's labeling of the flatware. Some customer reviews state that the flatware is not actually 18/8, but 18/0, and, therefore, poorer quality and an inferior product.

Well, I do know that when I received this service for 4 Satin Sand Dune set, it was definitely marked as 18/8 on the box. I then received the service for 8 a few days later, but, unfortunately, I do not remember if I looked at the rating on that box or not.

As of right now, on the service for 4 set product page (this product page), they have 18/0 in one place, in Product Features, and then 18/8 listed on the same page in the textual description in the "Amazon.com Review" section (I'm guessing an oversight that it didn't get updated).

So all of that is definitely confusing to me. But, to be fair, I have to report that after three months of using this flatware everyday and washing it in my dishwasher, I am very pleased with both the quality and the luster of my Satin Sand Dune sets. They still sparkle like new, there is no rust visible on any of the pieces at all, or any unexplained bending or warping, and the pieces all stack nicely and evenly in my silverware caddy.

It has been stated that the reason the flatware is rated as 18/0 is because the nickel was left out of the content of the flatware when it was manufactured. Well, if that is true, as it turns out, I have sensitive skin and cannot wear any type of jewelry other than gold or platinum. My dermatologist explained to me that this was a common allergy and was caused by the nickel content found in costume jewelry, including sterling silver jewelry. So, for me, and others with the same condition, flatware without nickel is probably a very good thing.

My old flatware set was rated at 18/10, and I did find this flatware slightly lighter in weight, but not any lighter than if it was actually rated at 18/8, as I expected. I had no clue about the 18/0 rating until I decided to write my own positive review about the product and came back here to the amazon product pages. I certainly support truth in advertising as much as the next person, but, really, who truly knows how or when the mis-labeling occurred? Mistakes can happen to manufacturers also, and at least it appears Oneida and Amazon have made an attempt to correct the original error.

The only thing I feel a little bad about is that I actually paid about thirty dollars more for the service for 8 set when I bought it in May, but that is just timing and the luck of the draw! At the time of writing this review, Amazon now has that 45 piece Satin Sand Dune set with the serving pieces at a reduced price, and I have included the product link below for your information, if you would like to examine it. In my opinion, that price is a bargain.

So, I certainly wish you good luck with your shopping decision, as I know this confusion with the rating just makes it more complicated. But, if anyone wants to know if I, personally, would purchase this product again for myself, or as a gift for someone, I would have to say most definitely, yes, especially after putting it to the test for the last three months. And that goes for both this 20 piece set and the 45 piece set with the serving pieces. They both still look brand new.

This flatware set is a great value. It seems to be exremely top quality. I am replacing some very very old flatware, that was also Oneida so I can compare this. It's sturdy enough to handle anything my kids can do to the pieces (sometimes, I swear, my kids are devils)

Farberware Tristar 15-Piece Knife Set in Pine Block

Farberware Tristar 15-Piece Knife Set in Pine BlockThese are not Farberware, but Hoan -which makes cut-rate kitchen implements like knives, measuring cups etc. I sent these as a gift, and was hugely embarrassed when I showed up for dinner and found out I'd sent this junk. This is deceptive advertising at its worst -shame on you, Amazon!

I've only had these for a couple of weeks, but they seem pretty nice. The quality of the blades and handles seem exceptional for the price. They are all heavy, and well balanced. They are not extremely sharp, but you can sharpen all of them more yourself except for the bread knife and steak knives.

Just a note...these knives ARE made by Farberware, but you would never know it! It does NOT say Farberware anywhere on either the box, or the paperwork. It just says "TriStar" on the box, and the paperwork denotes that TriStar is a division of Lifetime Hoan. The only thing the knives say is "China" (on the blades). If giving these as a gift, you may want to take that into consideration. The block looks nice now, but I'm not sure how long it will hold up (because of moisture, etc. in kitchen) ... because it is only cheap pine.

Its not from Faberware. Not written anywhere, ITS ONLY from TRISTAR. I don't know why they say its from faberware..sharpness is bad too..

Definitely not a Farberware. A few knives aren't even sharp and steel quality is very poor. I will make a use of steak knives, they seem to do their job... One of the big knives is the worst, because the blade is heavier then the handle, so it's hard to use it safely.

This set is much worse quality than a couple knives I bought at "Conway" store a few years ago. This should give you an idea not to buy it. Add a little more money and buy something much better. Do not buy it as a gift!

These really are not great knives. The serrated knives in the set are OK, but the other knives just can't get sharpened enough to be of serious use.

Shimomura Left Handed Yanagiba Sashimi Knife 200mm #6298

Shimomura Left Handed Yanagiba Sashimi Knife 200mm #6298This knife can take a nice edge and holds it relatively well -tho not as well as many other Japanese knives, but it is not carbon steel as advertised. It appears to be stainless steel. And more importantly, the back is not hollow ground. For only $50 bucks I didn't expect much, but this is more like a $20 noname knife.

Ginsu Kotta Series 2 Piece Japanese 420J2 Stainless Steel Kitchen Shear Set 4810

Ginsu Kotta Series 2 Piece Japanese 420J2 Stainless Steel Kitchen Shear Set 4810Cut very well but buttons popped off that cover the screw that holds them together first use.Not cool.

Maybe it's just my sets, but they don't cut very well. I have to use my right hand, if I use my left the blades won't maintain enough friction together to cut through bacon (seriously) let alone a chicken. Another note, the packaging is that sealed and rough plastic that you need to already own a good pair of scissors to open.

I purchased these for a Chistmas gift for my son-in-law. They arrived thrown into a cardboard box with no padding, bubble wrap, etc. Also, the blade covers were just thrown into the box. Looked like maybe they had been returned previously. It was a embarassing gift to give.

I bought this item for a replacement, as my kitchen shears that came with my knife set disappeared. I love the knives, so I knew that I could not go with a different brand other than Ginsu! A very happy customer indeed!

Model 1720 CUTCO Paring Knives with 2.9" Straight Edge blades and 4.9" Classic Dark Brown 'Diamond'

Model 1720 CUTCO Paring Knives with 2.9' Straight Edge blades and 4.9' Classic Dark Brown 'Diamond' handles.I own the 2-3/4" knife and it's easy to use and very sharp. It does get dull over time and it's not a must have knife. It's very useful though to cut the skin of the fruit and that's what I mainly use it for. I'm not trying to get all fancy and carve roses out of veggies or anything unless a special occasion.

One thing is that since it's a straight blade, it's easy to resharpen and I just use the accusharp sharpener (just for your info) and use no pressure to resharpen and good as new.

I have another knife and even when it's resharpened, this knife still cuts better and the blade is a better quality made than others. This isn't the only sharpest knife as I'm sure there are others and maybe cheaper. I'm not worried as I resharpen it when I notice it starts to get dull. Simple as that and a lifetime guarantee (or forever guarantee) is good to know that if I accidently break this, I could get another for free (except the shipping cost).

I invested in a set of Cutco knives when I was 22 yrs. old before ever getting married. I received a complete set of china along with it. Over the years I noticed that my paring knife dissappeared. I found it six years later at my father's house. He liked to peel his apples before eating them with a good sharp knife. He was a good judge of knives and I guess he liked mine. Somehow it dissappeared again, but this time I was not going to wait to find it. Good knives have a habit of growing legs and walking off, so I replaced it. Be careful these knives are sharp.

Cutco knives are exceptionally dull from the factory. One of the selling points they talk about is free sharpening for life but that is comical given the quality of the service. They often look they have been sharpened on a block of concrete. Sharpening them with grits as coarse as 80 on a belt sander yields a significantly finer finish. Despite the poor factory sharpening, they do hold a decent edge once sharpened by anyone that cares slightly about the outcome. This is true on all but the cheapest chinese knives though. Given that, I'd suggest you either spend less for a better knife like a Global which will come wicked sharp from the factory and remain so if taken care of, or buy a modestly priced knife and have it professionally sharpened.

My knife was duller after paring about 75 tomatoes. The only thing hard about that steal is paying for it.

Victorinox Universal Attache Case

Victorinox Universal Attache Case
  • Multi-purpose
  • Hard shell with locking feature
  • Unique tray system holds a minimum of 10 knives, any shape, style or size
  • Additional storage in base

I've used this Victorinox case for about five years now in a few different pro kitchens. It's not perfect; the plastic is a little soft and prone to staining. The tray has clips for ten knives and lifts out to reveal storage space underneath. The knives are held very securely. One minor drawback is that they do scratch the blades a little bit but I don't really carethey're work knives, not block queens. I can fit a 300mm sujihiki in the top couple slots but that's about the longest blade it will accommodate. In the bottom I keep a first aid kit, my glass Hand American honing rod, an 8" ceramic rod a cut glove and some tools (block knife, measuring spoons, etc). There's still room left over for a couple knives if I'm taking some home to sharpen.

I hate using sayas or blade guards and this case obviates the need to mess with them. I'd be willing to pay a premium for an aluminum version essentially the same but maybe an inch or so larger. Or a plastic case as nice as Pelican but designed exactly like this one.

While the case looks a bit cheap 'n' cheesy, overall I really like it. It may feel a bit lightweight but it's held up to the abuse of a pro kitchen just fine over the years. I've used many different rolls and so far I've never found anything I like any better.

This is about the only hard case design I could find for knives that didn't include the whole knife set and wasn't per se a brief case that cost a fortune. I also like how it has the compartments for other things below the knives. The only thing that is off a little is how the tray comes off to expose the compartments underneath. That could be designed slightly better.

This case is as advertised with plenty of space for knife storage, and the accessory compartments underneath the knife tray have plenty of storage space. My criticisms come in the form of the rigidity of the plastic used for the outer case itself. It seems very flexible and I am concerned about its' durability. Second, when the knife tray is full and the case is closed, the two exterior latches that are supposed to hold the case closed, do not maintain the lid closed and secured. They pop open after a few minutes leaving the lid ajar. It seems that the foam used on the inside of the lid to keep the knives from moving during transport, exert upward pressure on the lid, thus popping the latches open. I'm looking for small padlocks that will fit into the holes provided in the latches to keep the lid closed, but I'm thinking that will turn out to be a real hassle in the long run. If I find a better solution I'll update my review, but for now three stars is all I can give this case.

Want Victorinox Universal Attache Case Discount?

Really, this should have a 3.5 star rating, but I rounded up. The case is a fairly sturdy plastic and appears to be designed for kitchen knives. However, I needed something to store outdoors/hunting type knives in (Ka Bar style). This case kind of accomodates those knives, but you'll have to do some wiggling. Unfortunately, I was not having any luck finding a product specifically designed for these types of knives. The hilt gets in the way of the "clip in" style storage system. If you can't find any type of case specifically for your outdoor knives, this will get the job done for the most part. Bear in mind that a very large hilt will prevent storage of your knife in this case.

There is also a tray underneath the "clip in" storage system that is large enough to hold several sheaths, some pocket knives, a honing stone, and several 18" sharpening rods.

Overall, this is an acceptable way to store some outdoor knives, but I'll keep looking for something that is solely suited to that purpose.

Well, I do not own this yetttt but my head chef and restaurant owner has it along with another co-worker and the case seems to hold up to the use and also holds a lot within the base. I will further review it once I get it next week. (I bought it through a friend who works for Victorinox)

Chef'sChoice Diamond Hone Multi-Stage Knife Sharpener M110

Electric International Diamond Hone Knife SharpenerChefs Choice by Edgecraft is so easy to use right out of the box. My husband did a lot of research online before deciding on this knife sharpener. It has excellent instructions and in less than 30 minutes he had all the very dull knives in our kitchen sharp as new again!

I did quite a bit of research about different knife sharpeners before I purchased this one. This is a very good knife sharpener. It is heavy which indicates good construction to me. It is my first knife sharpener. My Chicago Cutlery knives are now sharp! I am a woman, this is pretty easy to use.
