Wusthof Classic 6.3-Inch Hollow Edge Euro-Utility Knife (16cm)
I like this knife so well, I will probably get the 8-inch version too. I wish that Wusthof made this same style knife in a 4-1/2" or 5" version.I have a good collection of Wusthof knives. this one is light and easy to handle, and useful for a lot of different situations. I think after my chef's knife and paring knife, this is what I use the most.

Yamazaki Old Denmark 5 Piece Placesetting, Service for 1
Over the years, we have added to our collection; twenty place settings, many extra serving pieces and just last summer-ice tea spoons. It's actually difficult to tell the new from the old. Another plus-the pattern hasn't been discontinued. Highly recommended!Yamazaki's really hit it on the head with the Old Denmark pattern. These are very beautiful well made (in Japan) and nicely weighted. It is a satin finish and will scratch if abrasives are used. If you are thinking of buying these, note that the length appears a bit short and that the forks have 3 tines not 4. The hafnia is a great alternative to Old Denmark, a bit more balanced and seemingly longer and therefore easier to hold. I highly recommend Yamazaki take advantage of Amazon's 4 for 3 promotion, this is the best price you will get on these!

Solid, hefty, incredibly well made, long-lasting, and they complement any other tableware you may pair them with. They are so nice to hold and to use, fitting the hand comfortably. This is what flatware ought to be like.

A friend of mine had a dinner fork of this pattern. Only one fork. It was used as a small serving fork. After using it I went online to find out what it was. I purchased eight place settings. I can see why the pieces retail at $85 per place setting. The quality is the best I have ever encountered and the balance of each piece is perfect. I am sorry that I didn't know about this company and pattern 20 years ago.Want Yamazaki Old Denmark 5 Piece Placesetting, Service for 1 Discount?
I too own this pattern. Since the late 80's, as I recall. All of the great things about the looks and quality are true. I've used mine for daily use since buying, as I loved the style so much. And use most of the time for special dinners, as well. The thing that I am so thankful to report, is how I got my set. I bought these at old Weinstocks, on compounded discounts....something like 50% and 40%.....all I remember is the cost to me PER PLACE SETTING was $13.50. And I bought about 10 PS and serving pieces at the time. Later, I added more pieces, but not at the original great deal, but much better than today's going prices. So I'm a very happy camper. They are still lovely to this day. And all I do is hand wash or dish washer. Imagine if I got off my duff and hand polished. $13.50/PS!!! THAT was my luckiest of shopping day.Victorinox Cutlery 8-Inch Chef's Knife, Yellow Fibrox Handle

This is the best cheese knife we've ever owned. It stays sharp and it's great for other things like tomatoes and fruit. It slices through cheese very easily because of the large cut outs. It's an excellant marriage of form and function. It also makes a great gift and emulated the high quality of the Rosle brand.Have been looking for a cheese knife for over a year since the handle broke on my old one. This is a great cheese knife. It is solidly constructed so I am not worried about the handle breaking again. It cuts through cheese without sticking. It is very good looking. It was not the cheapest knife available on Amazon, but definitely worth the extra money. Also love Amazon Prime, which is a great deal if you live in an area where there is limited shopping. This knife has what it takes to cut and serve cheese properly. The design allows cutting cheese without sticking to the knife. Very handy and the price was right. I saved $8 by buying it on Amazon.Gourmet Settings Non Stop 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4

I love the heaviness and the look of these. The first time I bought a set, though, I noticed one of the fork tines was bent, so I returned it and got a new set. When I got a different set, once I had opened them, I noticed that around the fork tines of a couple of the forks, the metal looked a little bent or weird. I haven't noticed any rusting yet, but if it does rust, I'm sure it's going to be around that part. Check the items before you purchase them. The 50-year warranty should cover the rusting, though.--Jacob's wifeRead Best Reviews of Gourmet Settings Non Stop 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4 Here
UPDATE-Have them for over 2 years now and still look great, no rusting, I don't put them in the dishwasher and don't use lemon liquid on them.If anybody want to sell me their small forks, I will buy them I had lost a few.---I bought two sets a few months ago when they were on sale. I regret not getting one more set. All my friends notice and like them. They are heavy enough and feel like the more expensive sets. I am very happy with them and so far have no rusting problems. I did read somewhere that using lemon dishwashing liquid is not recommended for metal flatware, so I use the regular kind.Want Gourmet Settings Non Stop 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4 Discount?
I have had these for 6 months. I first started noticing rust within 3 months. More than half the pieces have a spot or more. I try not to leave them in water, but there is water in the sink and dishwasher! My old silverware lasted 20 years with no rust. I will return and buy a different brand.Shells Cheese Spreader Set of 4
Wusthof 5-in. Gourmet Fork-Tip Tomato Knife.
I have 2 Wustof Santoku knives: gifts from family. This tomato knife is of similar quality except for the cheap red sticker. Cuts through tomatoes effortlessly; as well as melon, strawberries, peppers, etc... (you get the idea. the blade is very sharp )
The knife itself is excellent, but to earn 5 stars for a $30 tomato knife, leave the sticker off and laser brand/imprint the handle or leave it off entirely. The blade is marked indelibly; no reason to cheapen it with a tacky red sticker that is starting to peel on the handle.

I was on a knife purchasing kick and ordered the block set of Wustof Gourmet knives, so I decided to purchase this tomatoes knife since I eat a lot of tomatoes and really just liked the idea of it. It's a good knife, it's sharp, and it cuts tomatoes well. I just don't know if it's necessary to have a separate knife for tomatoes because it does not do any different or better of a job than the Santuku knife that I purchased. Again, it is a good knife and does the job well, it just depends on if you have a need or want for a separate tomato knife. If you already have a knife that cuts tomatoes well I don't think this does any different or better of a job. Good knife, not necessarily necessary!!There's *only* one way to properly slice a tomato that's with a knife expressly designed for it. Wanting a quality such knife (but affordable), I bought this. Folks, if ya don't have one....get one (this one).Chef's Choice 220 Hybrid Diamond Hone Knife Sharpener, White and Brushed Stainless Steel
I really didn't think I could justify an expensive sharpener when all I need to do it correct and them maintain the edges.
I was right, mine were rough!! It took a little more than the instructions said in order to get the edge corrected on mine, but since I did, I've hit them on the manual hone side for a couple of strokes and I'm slicing like a mad man!
For the home casual cook that isn't sharpening blades constantly and only needs to fix then maintain good edges this thing is great and at a price I almost passed on because it was so low!! I thought I'd still need to spend a lot more to get a good sharpener, even for my needs. At first when I realized what they meant by "hybrid", meaning what you use the most is manual, not power, I was disappointed, until I used it. It really does only take a stroke or 2 to touch up the edge and it's easy to do without having to pull it out and plug it in. It's not fancy looking but it's built really solid and easy to use and easy to store.
As the instructions will warn, it may leave faint rub marks on some blades and it did on 1 or 2 of mine. But they're faint and not a problem. It may also be me, using it for the first time.
I'd highly recommend this sharpener.

After years of looking for a good knife sharpener at an affordable price, we found this one on Amazon. It absolutely does the job, easily and efficiently. It also works on serrated knives, which is a real plus. Chopping and slicing and dicing is much less of a chore when you have a sharp knife to do the job!I was a little timid at first to use an electric sharpener on my expensive Henckels but after I did, I was impressed with the nice edge it put on all of my knives. The price was very reasonable as well and I would highly recommend this product!Bought one of these because my somewhat expensive knives were getting dull. It works great. I tried the "paper test" on an old Henckel knife I had. If you hold a sheet of paper in one hand a sharp knife should be able to easily slice it from top to bottom and you should be able to cut curves. My old knife badly mangled the paper before sharpening and afterwords it sliced with ease. This sharpener is also easy to use. I bought another one for our vacation house.Mundial 5100 Series 2-Piece Carving Set, Black

Home Styles 5023-95 Wood Top Kitchen Cart with Breakfast Bar, Natural Finish
My kitchen is rather small with little work space. I needed a place to knead bread and do other things but also needed it to roll out of the way when not needed. This island turned out to be perfect. It does require a bit of assembly. Took me about 90 minutes. The result was a handsome & functional island in unfinished rubberwood. You can finish it with most stains or wood finishes but I would recommend leaving the countertop unfinished. More sanitary & easier to keep clean. (Yes, handled properly, wood is every bit as sanitary as plastic, stone, or metal. Keep ALL liquids off of it!)
It's sturdy enough for hard kitchen use. I have pounded meat on it (on a cutting board) and beat bread dough to death. I have also used it as an impromptu breakfast bar & even rolled it onto the patio to use as a dry bar once. Worked wonderfully. But it really shines as a place to slice. dice, chop & mix. And it's the best bread board I've ever had. (NOTE: DO NOT USE A KNIFE ON THE WOOD!! Put a cutting board down to protect the surface.) It even holds 3 separate, operating machines (bread machine, slow cooker, & my large Kitchen-Aid stand mixer)& still leaves a good working area. The back leaf folds down & reduces the storage space when you need to roll it out of the way.
The only shortcomings (and they are minor) is the depth of the storage. The cabinets are not deep enough to store large pans. You can get two 1 gal. water/milk jugs back to back & that's about it. Also the drawers are too short & too shallow to store long items like ladles, cooking spoons, & butcher knives. A silverware tray won't fit. Also when assembling, stagger the 2 lockable wheels on opposite corners. Otherwise the island will pivot when pushed.
If you need working space for a small kitchen & don't want spend big bucks, this is the island to buy. After seeing mine & how I use it, several friends bought one too.We recieved this item shortly after we ordered it. Unfortunately two pieces were damaged during shipment and had to contact the company to have replacement pieces sent. They were shipped quickly and without hassle. Assembly went fairly smoothly and we ended up with a pretty decent cart/island with good storage space. It looks good in our kitchen and doesn't look flimsy or cheap. We feel like we got a good deal for the money.

I am not an impulsive shopper, & saved this in my wish list for about a year while I looked for similar carts that I might like better. This was the winner, & I finally took the plunge & ordered it. I have an old house, & the kitchen has very limited workspace, so this cart was badly needed. It arrived within about a week, no damage, & assembly was fast. Directions were accurate & clear, & there were extras on each piece of hardware. No nasty surprises anywhere. The cart is very attractive, holds my small appliances & gadgets, & with the breakfast bar up provides a large workspace. I am very pleased with this purchase, & there are only 2 reasons I did not give it a 5 star rating. 1) While it is all wood, no particle board or worse, the top is made of pieces of solid wood instead of full length boards. They are put together pretty well, but the joints are visible. And 2) the tool caddy is primarily a knife rack, which I don't need. I may use the router to enlarge the space to hold other kitchen tools, or I may just remove the top. All in all, a really nice product. This product was just what I needed in my new kitchen. It arrived within a week, and unlike some other reviews, it did have the wood top as advertised vs. a stainless steel. It only took a little over an hour to assemble, which is great compared to other types of do-it-yourself assembly. It gave me the extra storage I was looking for while giving me some seating in a kitchen where a table just won't work. I'm very happy with this purchase.Want Home Styles 5023-95 Wood Top Kitchen Cart with Breakfast Bar, Natural Finish Discount?
I bought this cart online from the military exchange (PX) because I did not have to pay for shipping. Other than that,it appears to be the same product and I think it warrants a rating. Here goes:Packing: The items in the box were WELL protected with a lot of padding and protection. There were a few dings on the box, but the pieces were not damaged at all.
Assembly: I was keen to get this put together so I started alone. After 1.5 hours, it was almost done! My husband joined and it took one more hour. NOTE: we thought we were almost done and found that we had to assemble the drawers (we thought they were pre-assembled). And, we made a few correctable mistakes, but that meant we had to do a few things over (we are not handymen!).
Instructions: Simple, very clear and easy to follow.
Finished product: Very sturdy and looks great!
Other:
1. Be CAREFUL! The counter top wood is sensitive and can be easily dinged!
2. It's not very bigthe middle cabinet has our deep fryer in it. Can hold another item similar to that and maybe a smaller appliance on each shelf (there are two). The two side cabinets (very skinny) hold a blender, extra coffee pot carafe, and maybe other small items.
3. Don't see me using the knife block, but it still put it oncould easily be removed (as the towel holder can be removed).
Summary: The cart looks GREAT. I also plan on using it as a drink cart/bar for an upcoming party! Highly recommended!

These are great knives, very sharp, and seem to be very well built. The only thing keeping them from getting 5 stars is the santoku knife. It's a great knife, but when using it, the point of the hallowed edge is that food is not supposed to stick to the knife. But it does, food does not fall off of this knife.Still, it's a very good set of knives, well worth the price.

I'm so glad I spent the extra money for these. The balance and feel of the knives is excellent; they are a pleasure to use. It was so nice to finally be able to get rid of the old hand-me-down knives they replaced. Unlike some other reviewers, I did receive the 17-slot block that is pictured and have 6 steak knives I also purchased in it. I look forward to eventually adding more of these knives to fill out the empty slots! We bought this as a birthday gift for my roommate. The packaging was excellent, none of the knives were damaged in transit. Each knife is excellently balanced and extremely sharp. The block is well-made, and it looks like it'll last him a long time. A definite upgrade from his previous entry-level JA Henckels set.Lansky Natural Arkansas Sharpening System with Natural Arkansas Coase, Medium and Fine Hones
The Arkansas stones are less aggressive requiring more patience but with a smoother result. The hardest part of using this system, for me, is that I have to use a light touch. I am kind of heavy handed. When done correctly this system works on just the cutting edge of the knife. Almost too small to see with the naked eye.
The best way to do this is to determine the correct angle for the type blade you are working on, set up your equipment and count your strokes. Arkansas stones don't raise much of a detectable burr so counting strokes is the only way to keep your blade balanced.
I also recommend the use of a Lansky Super Sapphire Sharpening Hone for final polishing and a Lansky Super "C" Clamp as a third hand.If you have any experience sharpening knives this system will put an edge on that you can easily shave with assuming your knife steel is up to it of course. I sharpened a couple of my everyday CRKT knives with it and couldn't be happier. I have been using the knives for some wood carving since I sharpened them and I can still shave the hair off my arm or cut paper like I'm using scissors. I sharpened a couple kitchen knives and cut raw chicken like I was cutting butter. This system is well worth the money the only problem I have had is I needed to replace the hone guide it's made of aluminum and where it makes contact with the blade is pretty thin and I broke it but the replacement was less then 10 bucks maybe just order an extra when buying the kit. All in all this is well worth the money and I will be buying a kit for my brother for Christmas.
Buy Lansky Natural Arkansas Sharpening System with Natural Arkansas Coase, Medium and Fine Hones Now
I've used a Lansky ceramic sharpening system for years and made the switch to the natural Arkansas stone system recently. The difference in edge quality between the two systems is amazing. I am able to get scary sharp edges and always at the preferred angle. Although somewhat messier than ceramic or diamond systems, because you have too keep the stones well oiled during use, it's a minor inconvenience. Additionally, the Universal Mount (which "c-clamps" to a bench or table) is highly recommended to aid in ease of use...Decent price. Stones are narrower than I expected but not an issue. Only thing I actually do not like is the jig, it's cheaply made and does not hold onto my tapered knives well.It will take a while to hone a new edge to razor sharp perfection with this system, but nothing I know of will do it better. Well unless you have mad skills with your steady hands. Don't ever use a grinder on any blade you cherish please! Just be careful not to slice through your body parts afterwards and not notice until you feel blood dripping. It is possible perhaps to go too sharp if you get the sapphire stone... Just a warning.Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 5-Inch Boning/Utility Knife
It's hard to go wrong with the price and quality product.
Update:09/27/11
OOPS. What happened? The original set came in a blue package, the two this time came in green and although the blade was the same, I don't like the new handle feel too much. I have bought several of these and this time I'm slightly disappointed in the feel and grip of the handle. When something simply works, don't change it.
CheersThis knife is very "hand friendly" balanced well and has a good cutting edge. Holds its edge about as well as any I've had. Found it very useful. Amazon has it priced quite inexpensively.

Admittedly my original, well-used and loved Chicago Cutlery knife set is over 25 years old, so perhaps some of the smoothness comes over time. However, in this one both the wood and the metal feel rougher and of lower quality than the old one. The handle is also about 1/4 inch shorter; the combination of shorter handle and slightly longer blade makes it a little less comfortable in handling. All in all, it is a very acceptable knife; it just loses in the comparison contest with its original.Read Best Reviews of Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 5-Inch Boning/Utility Knife Here
I was looking for more flexibility in the knife. I thought it should give more than it did. I would not recommend it if you have another choice. The price is good, but not if you have to purchase another one to do the job you thought this one would do. Save your pennies and get the knife that's right for you...and the job you have to do with the knife.Want Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 5-Inch Boning/Utility Knife Discount?
The tang is slightly larger than the handle and can be felt sticking out a little on both sides of the handle. The copper rivets also are slightly above the handle, and can be felt. Poor attention to detail when finishing or maybe they have skipped that finishing step.Otherwise good balance, cuts well, both as expected from Chicago Cutlery.
