so when when choosing a knife set it came down to henckle, wusthof and
messermeister all worthy contenders steeped in a rich tradition of forged
steel knife making since the early 1800's. what ultimately impressed me
with messermeister was that they did not compromise their reputation by
outsourcing their product to international knife making markets outside
of germany in order to gain popularity.

Wusthof Grand Prix II 5-Inch Tomato Knife
This is the only knife I know of that really achieves that effect without needing sharpened regularly. It is good for all soft or semi soft foods. You can use it to cut seeded oranges and use the forked tip to pop the seeds right out.
I have one that is now ten years old with daily use. I have *never* sharpened it, and it still "floats" through overripe tomatoes. :)This tomato knife is awesome, it slices through tomatoes with the greatest of ease. I was initially concerned about it being serrated (i equate serrated with cheap), but this knife has not lost any sharpness and still slices tomatoes as nicely as the day it was first used. I have not regretting spending a little more money to get these quality knives, I will be a lifelong Wusthof customer.

New version of the 16 pocket messermeister, I love the bag. I has bigger pocket that fit many things. Material seemed better than the older version. One thing Amazon should list that this bag came with a strap, so no one will order a strap along with the knife bag.Read Best Reviews of Messermeister 16 Pocket Culinary Satchel, Black Here
I have this case filled all the way up and I have issues closing it. The zipper would bulge and it would not zip right. I also had an issue with one of the teeth on the zipper getting out of place and it would not zip right. I called Messermeister they did replace the case. I will end up replacing it soon though.Want Messermeister 16 Pocket Culinary Satchel, Black Discount?

18/10 Stainless Steel Cutlery - Filigree Silverware 25Pc. By Collections Etc
They come in a basic cardboard box all wrapped in plastic wrap and rubber bands. The best part of this set is the amount of pieces you get when compared to the name brands with better quality. The polish is just "ok", the edges while not rough could have been rounded off better. If you compare this set side by side with a name brand you'll be able to tell instantly where they skimped in the manufacturing process, mainly in polish and corners. The one little design at the end of each utensil, while ok, shows lack of cohesion with the rest of the utensil. This set reminds me of an 18/10 set that was made 30 years ago, but is just being offered today. The size of the utensils are larger than normal, with spoons having a more flat look than a curved one. The picture of the set you see on this page looks better than the product you actually get, these are best for everyday use but I would not use them for show in a table setting. If not for the price/amount of pieces I would have rated these 2 stars instead of 3.
Pros:
Price, way lower in cost that name brand sets with fewer pieces
Amount of pieces in set, good for those on a tight budget with larger families
Cons:
Quality is about as low as you can get for 18/10
Pro/Con Depending on your preference, these are larger in size when compared to other utensils. Smaller hands may not like the size of this set.

For the price, you cannot beat the quality, anywhere. I use them everyday instead of my fine silver. The styling is good, not extravagant, but still presentable. I highly recommend for your everyday usage needs.OXO Good Grips Mango Splitter
Pros:
Makes seeding a mango almost instant
Cons:
I don't know what I'll do when this device eventually dulls (sharpening it will be difficult)
It doesn't handle the largest sizes of mangoes

This little invention I just bought cuts out a lot of mango and a lot of BS. I pay about $1.50 per mango, so losing flesh in cutting the things up is like a punch in the throat. Mangoes are well connected to their skin and seed, making it hard not to waste or at least end up with a million little hacked off pieces and cut up hands.I didn't give it 5 stars simply because there is still a small bit of waste, but given the stubborn nature of the mango, that's inevitable. Someday someone will breed a mango that just pops away from the seed like a peach.
There's a slight learning curve on the tool, but I got it on my first try. I doesn't look like it should work but it does. Amazing and rewarding the first time you use it and have two robust shoulders taken off the seed.

The problem with mangos is that the pit is well-secured inside the fruit by a pit with long, tough fibers attached. The pit is an inconvenient flat oblong, slippery under the knife. However, if you admire the "peach soaked in turpentine" exotic taste (and I certainly do) you might wonder if there isn't some way to cut out the flesh of the mango without a long, hard struggle. This device is positioned over the mango like an apple corer, allowing you to cut the fibers around the pit and release it from (most) of the meat. While there is still some waste, and while mangos and their pits vary in size, this is pretty good.
It certainly beats my current method of mango preparation, which is to slice along side of the pit, making two shallow halves. I dice the fruit inside the hull and slice it off that tough skin with a knife positioned flat along the skin. I get cubes of mango, and then I either try to trim the pit or I nibble it as a cook's tidbit.
This cutter is faster by far than my old method and a lot neater. Big thumbs up to OXO for figuring this out.

I was so excited after the first time I used this tool. I was amazed at how easily I was able to split my way through a mango. With moderate pressure, this tool whizzed right through the mango without a problem and I ended up with two perfectly sliced halves. As I am a mango fanatic, it was love at first sight with this tool. The honeymoon was short-lived, however. After a handful of uses, I noticed I was having problems with my mango splitter. What once sailed through the mango was now giving me problems right from the get go. Just piercing through the top of the mango was work enough, and with the added pressure now required, my mangoes were quickly becoming mangled, mutilated messes, and my cutting board and counter tops would be drenched in mango juice. What's worse I could only get the implement about half way through the mango, but no more, and then I had a bear of a time retrieving the splitter from the fruit at all. At first I thought maybe I was using it on too ripe mangoes, and because I didn't want to give up on my beloved mango splitter, I gave it several more tries with mangoes of varying ripeness. Unfortunately, I killed at least a half a dozen mangoes in the process.
Bottom line...this implement works wonderfully from the start, but the blades quickly dull leaving you with a useless apparatus. I have 2 other friends that have had the exact same experience as me with the Oxo Mango Splitter, so I highly doubt it was only mine that had this problem. I have since returned to using my chef's nice to get at my mangoes. It's a bit of a pain, but at least no mangoes have to be killed in the process. Sorry, OXO, but you need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

I've been using these knives for years for camping/car camping. There are three different knives: Green, straight 3 5/8" blade 8 1/4" OAL (over all length), good for pairing knife or cheeses; Yellow, serrated 4 3/4" blade 9 3/8" OAL, good for breads; Red, straight 6" blade 10 3/8" OAL, good for misc slicing and chopping. Very light weight sturdy design, the sheaths fit snuggly and ventilate the knifes if still wet. The blade is extremely sharp, and stays very sharp (I use a nice set of Wusthof knives in the kitchen, and would compare their performance to these). I've already have had friends that have camped with me buy a set. For the price, you really can't get a better set for camping, or an RV, tackle box, survival kit, etc.Maybe it's just me, the green knife is useful and used, the yellow knife used rarely, the red knife is very light weight and doesn't cut very well, I don't recommend them.Want Kuhn Rikon Classic Serrated Utility Knives, Set of 3, Yellow, Green, and Red Discount?

Love these!FYI: do not use an abrasive on the patina (dark) finish, it will take the finish right off. You can probably put them in the dishwasher, but if you're handwashing, let them soak in hot water for a couple of minutes to loosen stuck-on debris and use a sponge or something soft; do not scrub with anything abrasive.

Epicurean Kitchen Series Cutting Board

Honestly, this is a great board for cutting.Unfortunately, I also have a sense of smell and a sense of taste.
The board reeks of chemicals when washed... hand-washed.
Also, if you leave something on the board for more than a minute or so and the board is wet (for instance, cutting onions, fruit, or anything that leaves a liquid), the food tastes like the cutting board smells.
Make sense?
I won't buy this again. There are other cutting boards out there that don't have this issue.

At first I thought this cutting board was a bit pricey. I've paid less for wood, plastic, and bamboo boards that were larger. That being said, this is the only board I've owned that has been worth the money I spent on it. It has held up remarkably well to hard use/abuse in my kitchen. I use it multiple times daily, and while it's starting to show a little wear (I've had it for around 6 months), it's far from needing to be replaced. It has far fewer gouges/scratches than a bamboo or wood board easily 1/10th its age, which means it's far less of a bio-hazard. You can also put it in the dishwasher, which is a plus (though I use it so often that I rarely wash it in the dishwasher). I also like the slate color... that way it won't be stained by curries and other such items that eventually left my white plastic cutting board looking like someone did something unpleasant on it.Quite simply, this is the best cutting board I've ever owned. It's lightweight but very sturdy, it doesn't dull my knives, it's resistant to bacteria, and it's DISHWASHER friendly the board fits into the bottom rack of my dishwasher without a problem. Try doing that with an old wooden board! The Epicurean is also really good looking, even after months and months of hard use, and has a pleasant feel as well, not rough and scored like wood or plastic can get. I don't think I could ask for more from a board (unless it could wash itself, but that's just wishful thinking...).Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Build a Block with 9-Inch Steel and Kitchen Shears

A sharp knife makes a difference. I never thought much about my knives since I was a casual cook. A renewed interest in cooking caused me to take a hard look at my knives. I did a lot of research and settled on the Pro S series. I never realized how much difference good knives made. This is a great knife to have, extremely sharp and makes quick work of peeling just about anything. Even if you cook only occasionally, this is a knife for you.I actually first got this knife in a large set of Henckel knives. I absolutely love the knives, Henckel is as good as they get and I love the look and especially the feel of the Pro S series. I wasn't sure how I'd like the hook design but after using it I must say I absolutely love it. It works great for peeling (what its actually made for) but I also love to use it to cut and dice all sorts of things (pretty much anything smaller that I usually cut in my hands). They shape really helps cutting up or stemming things like Strawberries. If you like Henckel knives I'm sure you'll love this one.I'm a Henckels fan and have several of the Twin Pro blades. This one is very useful and handy. The curved balde makes peeling round fruits very easy. And of course Henckles quality is very evident. A great little tool for all kitchens.
