Wusthof Gourmet 2-Piece Asian Knife Set
However they are the 'cheap series' and do not hold a point like the more expensive knives.Affordable knives of good quality which are multipurpose and suitable for novice to intermediate cooks. these were purchased for a family memeber who owns no sharp knives in hopes that when i visit i will at least have the minimum tools required for helping in the kitchen.

These are the best knives I have ever owned. Always keep their edge. Require very infrequent sharpening. Run them across a steel after every 3 or 4 uses. No need to do it sooner. The Wusthof Asian knife set arrived promptly and met all of my expectations. High quality workmanship, sharp blades and versatile. They fit in quite nicely with our other Wusthof Classic and Wusthof Gourmet knives.Shimomura Left Handed Yanagiba Sashimi Knife 200mm #6298

Ginsu Essential Series 10-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set with Triple Riveted Polymer Handles and N
Edit: It's been at least six months, and the knives are great, except for one of the big ones that I rarely use. I usually just use the smaller ones, and it looks like this larger one had developed some rust spots. I can probably scrum them out, but I think I had probably used it and hand-washed it and put it back in the knife block without wiping off the water, and that's how it got rust stains. I usually dishwash them and none of the other knives have any spots or stains like that. Other than that one thing, they are still a great value, just wipe any extra cindensation off of them before placing in the block.I was looking for a reasonably priced set of kitchen knives, and the Ginsu Essentials 10 piece set stood out as being just what I had in mind. I particularly like the handles. They are sturdy and easy to grip. The blades are strong and serviceable, although I would prefer finer serrations on the cutting edges for certain tasks such as cutting through watermelon rind. Be warned, the points on the steak knives are extremely sharp. Finally, I would mention that the hardwood Block is attractive and functional if your counter space is adequate.Nice middling set, not too many pieces, not too few. Shears are great for every day use (I have a nicer one for food prep). Knife handles are a bit small, but my wife and I are small, so there you go. They work.
No problems with rust, but, then again, I wash and dry with each use so I don't see it as a problem.
Blades are great, cut cleanly, effortlessly.
All in all a nice set for the price.
Update Have to take back what I said about the shears. The hinge is WAY too flexible (plastic on plastic). They make a decent, general purpose, light duty, household shear, but not a whole lot better than a plain set of scissors. Scissors might be better, actually. Knives are doing great. As I said, I wash and dry them as I use them. Or shortly there after, so no rust. This set of knifes was a Christmas gift for my husbands parents (we had already given a set to my parents) This is a GREAT set of knifes, we purchased us a set and knew we had to get our parents a set, we often talk about how dull our knifes are! They cut so well you will think your stake is Tender even if it is tough like cutting BUTTER!!!!! For the price I will and have recommended This knife set!!!!i bought these thinking they were ginsu so they were quality and they are jusnk it says dishwasher safe i put 2 in the dishwasher and they came out covered in rust!!!! the handles are sturdy and light wieght but i have had that less then a month and all but one knife has rusted and 1 broke while cutting a potato so please dont waste your money on these

Rada Cheese Knife Black Handle Dishwasher Safe W-239
I have always been a big fan of Rada cutlery. I find that they are comparable with the best brands and are a lot cheaper. There are two versions, a black handle and an aluminum handle. I always go with the black handle because it is dishwasher safe. Also the aluminum handles tend to darken over time anyways.Purchased for a friend, because I love mine ! Have bought Rada products for years, and never got anything I didn't like.

Paderno World Cuisine Chestnut Knife, 6 1/4"
Luckily, I had a decent knife sharpener and after many, many passes through that, this thing was actually able to begin scratching the chestnut. A few more passes and it was ready for use. The angle for the tip makes it easy to first puncture the skin, and then drag it across the nut to score it. Great design, horrible quality, and horrible sharpness but I gave it 3 stars because after some extensive sharpening, I can't imagine going back to using a paring knife for scoring chestnuts.

Wusthof Gourmet 4-Piece Steak Knife Set
My final word on them is that those who can afford the Classic line (and I truly wish I was one of them) should purchase the Classic. But for those who can't, don't be shy about purchasing Gourmet. You'll get what you pay for, and since you're paying for Wusthof, how disappointed can you be?Just received these knives and they seem to be a fine set of steak knives. However, I noticed that these gourmet series (with the exception of the 8" chef's knife), use different steel than their more expensive classic series. Specifically, the classic series uses "X50CrMn15" material, whereas these gourmet series uses "X46Cr13". The major difference being that X46Cr13 contains less carbon (0.5% vs. 0.46%) and that it does not contain Mn (molybdenum), which is needed for knives to be totally dishwasher safe. ...

Wusthof is a producer of quality knives, but double check your order, especially if you ordered more than one knife at a time. I have read many consumer reviews on the block set where consumers found that only a couple knives from the set were quality while the rest were not. I received a block set (8130) of Wusthof knives for Christmas. After close investigation, I noticed that most of the knives were not what I ordered. While I ordered the Gourmet line, most of the knives received were of much lesser quality. Only three knives were the actual gourmet line of knives as they are stamped with serial numbers. If your knives are stamped with a number beginning with "8", then chances are you received the incorrect knives in the set. Wusthof quality knives begin with the number four (including Grand Prix, Culinare, Gourmet, etc). I have contacted both the Food Network and Wusthof to make them aware of this issue. It appears there has been a problem in the shipping area of one of the two. The Food Network has been great when speaking with them. I want to make sure everyone has actually received what they have paid for. As far as the three Gourmet knives I received, they are very good quality. I sent the entire block back (paid for by the Food Network) and am looking forward to "playing" with my new set of Gourmet knives.Read Best Reviews of Wusthof Gourmet 4-Piece Steak Knife Set Here
I searched through Amazon looking at the different steak knives and their reviews. I decided on these because of the following: 1. They appeared to be of a medium vice entry quality; 2. They are non-serrated thereby allowing me to sharpen at home using my honing steel and/or knife sharpener; and 3. They go well with my mid-quality J. A. Henckels International Classic kitchen knives. I am not a knife expert, but an average person would be hard pressed to not like or find any material fault with these steak knives. I noticed one reviewer mention that they were a bit thinner than other Wusthof knives. However, I found them to be reasonably thick (they are not tinny) and quite satisfactory. They are steak knives, not kitchen knives. I feel this is a good quality product and am well satisfied with my purchase of them. I hope this review helps fellow Amazon customers because I know many of the reviews for steak knives are quite diverse.Want Wusthof Gourmet 4-Piece Steak Knife Set Discount?
These are by no means cheap knives. They are inexpensive relative to the quality they deliver. The knives I really wanted were also from Wusthof. Unfortunately, they were $180.00. So the decision was between a.) the best knives which will last a lifetime or b.) the best knives which will last 25 years for less than a third of the price. The gourmet series knives cut through steak like "buttah". They feel good and well balanced in the hand. The fact that it's not a full tang has no effect on the usefulness or performance so I am happy with these knives and recommend them to you if you want the best and if money IS an object.

Much like the Ginsu advertised ability to cut through metal and retain it's edge, this set holds up well to daily use and abuse! We purchased this set for my son who is setting up his first apartment, and when we opened the box, I was very surprised at the quality of the knives and block.
Great knife set at this price point!

Okay, I've wanted a set of these knives for like 20 years. My old butcher block set was shot. I decided to invest in this Ginsu set because the price was reasonable and I'm not fussy. I am absolutely delighted with them. Who knew such little knives could be so sharp and powerful. I've only had occasion to use the big carvers once and they were able to cut a chicken breast into amazingly fine slices. You will not regret this purchase.Read Best Reviews of Ginsu 8-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set with Natural Hardwood Block 4872 Here

I don't know quite what I was expecting but it wasn't what I got. Perhaps I should have recalled those famous Ginsu TV ads where they cut through nail and a pop can, etc. and I would have suspected the blades were all going to be serrated and thick. In fact 5 out of the 6 knives have serrated edges. The reason I don't like serrated is they cannot be easily sharpened when they eventually get dull. And even that would be okay if they were actually quite sharp to begin with but alas, they are not all that sharp... in fact, these are the dullest knives in the house right now and so maybe it is fortunate that they are serrated because they seem to require a sawing action to get any serious cutting out of them. Because these knives often require a sawing motion on so many items, I find in some situations they can actually be dangerous, like 'sawing' a slice off a peeled melon or peeled mango etc. that's already slippery. One of the knives already had some rusting on it right out of the box. Also the blades are quite thick and I suppose that is why they can cut a nail without doing too much damage but then really who wants to be able to cut a nail in half anyway? The santoku is the best of the set and does chop vegetables. This set was so cheap (price-wise) that I won't bother returning them to Amazon however at some point I will be back on Amazon again looking for yet another set of knives to use to cut-up fruits and vegetables, and this time I will make sure they are not serrated and hopefully have thinner (sharper) blades that can be re-sharpened easily and I'll save the Ginsu knives for any nails I need to cut-off.Norpro 24-Pack Canning Labels

Pretty comfortable in the hand. Pleasant SoftTouch coating of the handle. There are some minor flaws with the ceramic coating. We bought a set of these knives for each of our children. They arrived quickly and in good shape. Though we did not get to see them actually used there have been no complaints so far!
