Mundial 5610-8 Cook's Knife 8"

Mundial 5610-8 8-Inch Cook's Knife, BlackThis is really a knife every serious chief should know about. I have one and love it. I use it to "protect" my nice knives from edge destroying jobs & have given a number of them as gifts to people for primary knife in second homes.

It performs better than many knives three times its price (although it's clearly inferior to any number of much more expensive finer forged blades). It is very tough. It is also VERY large: the blade is tall, the handle is thick, the bolsters are huge. If you normally use a 10" I'd advise downsizing to the 8".

If you told me tomorrow that my primary knife had to cost $100 or less this would be my choice.

A supplier gave my wife's restaurant the 8" chef's knife 25 years ago. Someone managed to break the handle in half (back to front) some years later. Even so it's remained the favorite knife, out of dozens of others, of everyone in the kitchen. I bought a new (complete) one for my wife and she won't tell the other kitchen people that she has it. It's light and has perfect balance. I'm only speaking for women food preparers but this knife is very apparently IT!

This knife is great. It's very sharp and reliable. I use it for everything! You really can't get anything better for the price. I have a handful of Ikea knives that are only 2 years old and I can't keep them sharp. It will be interesting to see if this one keeps its edge over time.

So far I'm very happy with the knife especially for the price!!

After reading about this knife in Bon Appetit Magazine under the "Best Knives Under $100.00" I thought its worth a try for $20. I first bought on of these 3 years ago and was blown away by how smooth it cuts and how light it is in the hand. Way better then any $100.00 knife I have used. 3 years later and using this knife everyday, I still am impressed with how the edge has held up on this knife. I have never sharpened it and only hone it about once a week.

The blade is a great size for any level cook and the high handle keeps your knuckles from slamming on the cutting board. This is a must have for every home. Once you use a knife that works for you instead of against you, it will change your life! (Well in the kitchen at least)

I've owned a lot of knives over the years, some very good but quite expensive. Recently I needed a new knife but did not want to spend much. Bssed on the reviews and my previous experience with Mundial Futura knives (a higher end line of knives) I decided on this one and it has exceeded my expectations. I especially love the wide blade which leaves plenty of room for anybody's knuckles and makes scooping up the chopped bits and transporting them very easy. It is a stamped blade, resulting in a lighter weight knife but that;s fine. Stamped blades used to be considered inferior to forged blades but newer technology has made them much better. The plastic handle is comfortable. I use an inexpensive ceramic knife sharpener Lansky 8" Ceramic Sharp Stick to keep the edge sharp. Try it, you'll like it!
