At first this item would seem to be an ideal product. I own both models. I picked up the diamond model because the diamond grit promised a surface that would surely handle the tougher steels. And it did. But then comes the reason I would not recommend this particular tool. The company, apparently to save a dime in production and make a dollar in sales, opted to only put one stone on both sides of the white ceramic hone. Since the tool was designed to fit two stones one gets chatter when honing. Might not seem like much of a problem but when one is trying to get the ultimate edge this drives me nuts. The cheaper model works great for a quick sharpening of kitchen knives that have lost a bit of edge.

I got this for my mom. I had boughten one just like this several years before and loved it and I still have it (same brand). She used it a few times and when I used it to sharpen her knifes one of the white sharpeners chipped off and is now useless.
