I wanted a decent quality chef knife for camping. I purchased the smaller 6 inch version of this, but it was only useful for slicing. This is more like a traditional Chefs knife that I use at home. The balance is decent, and the handle is off-set enough so that you're not hitting your knuckles. It's also long enough that you can put the tip of the blade on your cutting board, and use it as a pivot point for mincing and so forth. Some people said that the sheath falls off easily, but mine seems to be snug, at least as new. I'm sure for the price this is not quality steel, but hopefully it can be sharpened easily. It comes extremely sharp. A couple of passes over my burnishing steel, and I could shave hair with it.
