Messermeister Pro-Touch Red Channel Knife

Messermeister Pro-Touch Red Channel KnifeTo make a nice-looking martini, you need a lemon twist -a perfectly cut spiral of lemon peel to provide a hint of citrus oil flavor and a certain visual sophistication to the drink. A channel knife like this one is the tool for the job. This is the first channel knife I've ever owned, so it has been fun to practice cutting citrus twists with it.

Pros: This knife makes it possible to cut citrus twists out of limes, lemons and even oranges. (Probably other fruits and vegetables as well but I haven't tried them.) This knife has a very low price.

Cons: Cutting twists with this knife is possible, but it isn't easy. To me it seems like the knife seems very dull. On firm or unripe fruits it takes a lot of force to cut anything with this particular tool. And with the irregularly shaped blade it doesn't seem like something that would be easy for the home user to sharpen themselves.

Bottom line: I'll probably try to get a nicer, sharper channel knife if I find one at a reasonable price.

Purchased two of them to peal lemon rind for martinis. They do not do the job but can be used as zesters.

To say that this item is no good would be unfair to it but it would not work with the watermelon so we were forced to use something else for our project. Surely a more experienced person could find a good use for this channel knife but the one we bought has been relegated to back of the cooking utensils drawer,
