Messermeister 6" Utility Edge-Guard

Messermeister 6' Utility Edge-GuardWe are purchasing Wusthoff knives and needed a knife shield to protect the blades. We had to buy the Messermeister brand because Wusthof does not have one to fit their 6 inch knife. The shield is well made and the knife slides in easily. Good product.

I carry my knives in chefs bag, so I need to protect not only the bag but also the knife's edge. These Messermeister edge-guards preform that task very well. I have several of these and use them on all my knives. They also work very well in protecting knives in a drawer. A very important use for these guards is they help prevent cuts to the fingers. The quality of these guards appears to be very good. They are made of a heavy grade plastic with flocking inside. Amazon shipping the best.

These get the job done. The Wusthof guards are excellent as well, but the size range is more limited.

Btw, I do NOT recommend knife blocks! Two reasons: first of all if someone puts a knife into them that's not completely clean, it's impossible to get that slot clean. I've literally seen Lab experiments growing inside of wooden blocks. But the main reason is that a block full of knives can be easily tipped over! Try it: using one finger, pull down on the end of a handle. (Think of small hands reaching up, and all of a sudden having a shower of knives come down!) Magnetic bars are excellent if your kitchen allows it. Otherwise, use knife guards. (If you're anal like Martha Stewart, you can draw the outline of each knife on the bottom of the drawer.)

I had some apprehension when buying this to protect my new Kyocera ceramic utility knife because of the above review. However, contrary to the above review, the product works quite well and you can actually just slide the blade in blunt-side first instead of blade first. Of course, I am writing this review on the first day of owning the edge-guard. I will update if anything changes.
