The company claims that these knives are European style, and they are shaped a little different than your standard American kitchen knives. Is that better or worse? The jury is still out but I know that they get the job done. The box and manual keep mentioning "Germany" and "European" but do realize that these were made in China with only the metal from Germany. Also, one of the knives is Oriental style (santoku knife) so really this set is a mixture of cultures. :)
I like that the brief manual simply explains how to use the knife sharpener. There is nothing different here in the instructions but I am happy they have basic instructions in there for anyone who has never done the task. The manual also has brief instructions on product care and describes each item in more detail which I find a nice touch. Speaking of product care, the manual expects you to hand wash these despite them being stainless steel. Out of curiosity, I decided to put one of them in the dishwasher. I now have a small rust spot on the knife so definitely hand wash these. I am not taking off anything from the rating for this rust stain because I strayed from the manual but it probably means that the quality of the stainless steel isn't quite what we hoped for so be careful to not let these knifes sit in moisture. Also, do not use an abrasive cleaner or abrasive sponge to clean these knives as the shinny blades are very susceptible to scratching.
The scissors (or shears) are really well thought out in how it disassembles so that it can be easily cleaned which is extremely important when dealing with meats and foods. The scissors include a half moon notch likely for bone breaking/cutting. Near the handle you also have what I think is a bottle/can opener, a nut cracker, and a screw driver. Oddly enough, the nut cracker isn't arched like many other kitchen scissors but I haven't tried this feature yet to see if the missing arch hurts performance.
The wood block looks nice and seems well constructed. The knives fit well in all the slots. The knife handles are solid and seem built to last. Overall this is a very nice entry level knife set but there is a lot of competition out there so check the 'best seller' list to compare. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This knife set is nothing spectacular but that doesn't keep it from being a good, well-rounded set of budget knives. They arrived sharp and have remained sharp through several uses. The blades are made from German steel and feel sturdy although they do seem a little on the lightweight side. They also seem a a tad undersized. For the price though you can't go wrong. I get the most use out of the chef's knife, the bread slicer and the scissors. Just about everything else has stayed in the block. If you need a set on a budget, this is definitely worth considering.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Lock&Lock Cookplus Rainbow 7-Piece Knife Set with Block is an attractive and affordable kitchen knife set with a number of high end features. There are many chef's knifes and sets on the market, most copying the look and feel of high priced German and American brands. The Cookplus Rainbow 7-Piece Knife Set features handles, bolsters and profiles that closely mimic the classic model knives from J.A. Henckels. The set promotes that it is "made from German stainless steel" without saying exactly where the knives themselves are made. All the included knives make a very good impression as budget priced Henckels clones, and are sharp and good to go out of the box. The block is smallish and won't take up a lot of counter space. An important detail for many users is that the knives are relatively smallish, easy to maneuver and to hold for women and other users with smaller hands. All in all a competent and solid looking set at a good price. RECOMMENDED.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have some real mixed feelings about this knife set. I really like the feel and balance of the very large knives in the set though I am not particularly fond of the bread knife but the knives here are not the ones that I tend to most use during cooking. If you cook, you are going to want another, perhaps smaller paring knife, and a somewhat larger serrated knife for cutting fruit and vegetables. You could, of course, buy some separately, but the storage block has no extra slots like most knife sets do, so this is essentially a set of large knives, except for the one smaller one.So while I like the knives, they just aren't the selection you would most expect. It isn't a very well balanced group of knives.
Also, the cooking shears included are among the worst I've ever seen. They are awkward to handle and fairly uncomfortable to use, mainly because of the can opener and lid opener on each handle. Although I'm not fond of the scissors, they do have one nice feature over other cooking shears I've seen: they easily come apart for easy cleaning. And they are easy to put back together.
All in all, I would recommend someone needing a good set of knives to go with an alternative, one offering more smaller knives. But if you already have a lot of smaller knives and really just need larger ones, this might be a good set for you.
