Hampton Forge Epicure 15-Piece Knife Set

Hampton Forge Epicure 15-Piece Knife SetI wanted some simple but well built knives, and in the picture these looked like they would fit the bill.

As I was unboxing them I realized what a mistake these where. The wood isn't nice, in fact it tends to deposit some sap looking stuff on the knives, and it has some knot thing on the lower portion, the wood glue is also coming undone from the top part. The knives themselves have a cheap feel to them, the handles are really light instead of feeling like anything of substance (as the metal tip would lead you to believe, and the black part is a thin rubber skin.

The blades themselves aren't bad, but they don't feel like they run the length of the handle or if they do, don't feel like they are held very solidly.

I'll use these at home, but the wood block thing is about to get chucked out, and the knives will be assimilated into the knife drawer until they get worn out or thrown out. Next time I'll pick some out at Target so I can have a better look and feel for them, and price shop on Amazon/online....

Buy this set if you like knives whose blade doesn't extend much into the handle and like others have said, snap and break very easily. We've had this set maybe 2-3 months and several knives have snapped when cutting things as simple as rice krispy treats and a block of cheese. People say the customer service is good but I don't see a point in calling when they never should've broken in the first place. Pretty sure there's nothing customer service can do for me for a poorly constructed set. It's much easier to return the product and give my business to a company that gives a hoot about making a product that's able to be used. It's too bad I had to rate it ANY stars at all.

I've bought this set in Target. It is nice looking and pretty sharp.

BUT it is rusting in washing machine (stainless steel???). (so I wash them manually one by one)

BUT the bigger issue is that in about 5 months four of the knives have broken. I've asked and got a free replace at the first one. BUT when in two weeks an other one has broken I've realized that we could play this for the 50-year warranty.

The steel shaft does NOT extend the length of the handle, the plastic soon breaks... (It happened with two others since. I don't dare to cut cheese, carrots or potatoes...)

Great knives for melted butter or jello... :(

I bought the hampton forge epicure knife set because they looked cool (oh my word...), i wanted a block and because i wanted a bread knife, mostly. At first this looked like an ok deal without investing alot until i could invest alot in fine knives.

Never do that.

It said it was msrp $80, which is like twice or more what it really goes for, anyway... Two days in i was cutting a room temperature, 1 1/2" by 2 3/4" piece of cheddar cheese with the "utility knife", not hard, and the blade snapped clean off. as you can tell from my ability to use language, i am not an ape. the tang goes approximately 3/4" of an inch into the handle. that's preposterous. I'm guessing i could snap every one in half using my pinkie finger and thumb. it's completely hidden by the sexy feeling black rubber so you can't tell that the blade is all but balanced on the end of the rest of the handle. I'm typing this on my way out the door to try and get my $30 back.

The bird's beak works well for seeding jalapenos.

Not too long after purchasing this set, the knives started rusting. After owning them for only 2 months, I decided to slice into a block of mozzarella with a steak knife. The knife handle promptly snapped off. Annoyed that the knife blade didn't continue further into the handle but assuming I applied too much pressure, I attempted slicing again using the utility knife. This also snapped in half with little pressure exerted. If these weren't out of their return period, I would return this trash immediately and buy something else worth the money. Don't buy these.
